Huh, I've just realised I haven't smoked since I've been off work playing Fallout 4. Like it wasn't intentional, I've just been that glued to playing I've not been tempted and the only reason I've noticed now is because its the third day and I've woken up feeling like utter shit since this is supposed to be the hardest day when quitting cold turkey.

Fuck it, I've come this far accidentally, going back to the wasteland and the only smokes I'll get are the ones in the game.
Best of luck!

main story spoilers

I just did the mind melding quest in goodneighbor, where i explored the memories of kelogg. gotta say, i'm pretty impressed. all the dialogue in that sequence was notably better than anything i can remember bethesda ever doing - and it renewed my interest in the main story.

Don't worry that was just a glimmer of decent writing, the main plot will return to being bland and nonsensical soon enough.

Quick question about main quest progression:
I must choose one of the faction questlines to undertake for the completion of the campaign, yes?

I'm assuming this means that the other 3 will become locked out to me at some point then?

Kinda regretting going with only 1 Charisma. I figured the conversation system would allow for other stats and perks to influence dialogue like in the past games. And as it is, I'd really like having some of those base-building perks.

Finally managed to get a shot of our character. We're level 19, I just levelled us up from doing some heavy duty building.

For those who wanted to see what playing Fallout 4 on low settings with a graphics card less than 2GB looks like, here ya go:

When if ever does a final faction choice need to be made?

oh there more definately is a final choice. Factions are weird, I wish the questlog would differenciate them. Ive done quests for them all except The Institute and Ive seen no indication that im hostile with anyone yet, but I also dont know what triggers more. I hope the game at least flat out tells you "yo dawg if you do this you will cancel those other quests"

if its just a achievement thing tho I dont care

3 features I would really like are

1. Interact with my companion from 'anywhere' no line of sight required
2. make notes on the map
3. bind gear sets, i want one thing i click on or one button I press to switch me between my charismatic talking gear and my not dying when I get hit gear.

This image is a little old, I've done some work on the place since then. but the Power Armor is on top of the roof by the guard now. There is no way in hell a raider is making it up there alive.

Looks like my place... :p

A high cottage with turrets everywhere
Dog Meat is also guarding the place

I mainly just don't want to waste my time. If I can only join one, I'll just pick and stop wasting my time with the others and move on.

I posted this a while back but I'm gonna try again just in case. I ran into a bug that won't let me finish the main story quest
Dangerous Minds
no matter what I do. I don't want to have to restart my game in order to see the main story through, that would be a bummer. Here's the problem:

It's after the memory sequence in the quest "Dangerous Minds". I left the memory and in the quest log it still says to explore Kellog's memories. I try talking to doctor Amari but nothing happens. There's a marker leading to nothing below the rug in the middle of the room she's in. I've tried fast traveling away then coming back and exiting and reloading the game and nothing worked. I even went back to a previous save and did it all again and I'm still having the same issue.

If anyone knows of a way to fix this, I'd really appreciate your help!

You should, it's a super useful place which will help you do lots more random shit.

Yeah, I figured. I keep thinking I'll quickly clear out my side quest log and get on it, then other stuff comes up and I get in this loop of avoiding going there to advance the story because I have so much other stuff.

Plus, I'm kinda curious if I can do the same trick as I did in Fallout 3. Basically, I was doing the side quest for that shopkeeper in the first town to fill in her book and not touching main story. Ended up talking to the woman my dad was dating and skipped a huge chunk of the main quest. Never even found Dogmeat, it was great.

Quick faction question.

I became the Minutemen "General" but it's the only faction I've met... Am I locked out of all of the others?

One second ago I was chatting with Nick and he was showering me with thanks, the next he's trying to kill me, goes down, gets up, tries to kill me, goes down, gets up etc

Just because I snatched a pack of cigarettes from his pocket. It's the GTA cops all over again!

What's the easiest way to disable the interact with companions thing? I keep accidentally pulling up Dogmeat's go-here thing and want to get rid of it without having to tell him to do a thing or going up to him and interacting.

Honestly, in many ways I feel like I preferred the Fallout 3 World Pauses mode of interaction to this weird hybrid.

I finally went to Diamond City after about 13 hours, and I'm really glad I did. I was under some weird impression that it would be advancing the game too fast to go there. When I got there, I realized that it was actually the start of the game.

You know, I haven't been doing much. Just scavenging and settlement quests. I started getting a little bored but then I went to the Museum of Witchcraft. OMG did that wake me up.

Anyone else have this problem with sanctuary / other settlements?

My settlers group up behind this one house:

It's a bit annoying when traders get stuck there.

I just spent about 5 hours in and around Diamond City, and I didn't get bored once. I love how all the characters interact with each other, every person makes the city unique. This game really is special.

Nick wanted me to get Dogmeat to follow a man's scent (how does he know about the dog, again?)

Sorta agree (I have the power of quest markers on my side but whatever makes you happy, Nick) so I went outside, ready to fast travel to Sanctuary

And Dogmeat was waiting for me right there

Staring at me

That creepy motherfucker

Is he stalking me?? INSTITUTE SPY???????

but thats the thing, the quests involved in them are cool. Like the Brotherhood of Steel quest to
assault some military keep overrun by supermutants
is badass. and the whole Freedom trail questline is full of spy goodness

basically the comanions imediatly act like they have been in your posse for a long time, which is...distracting to say the least. Like for example, companion spoiler
there is a guy you can hire (straight up hire with caps) in Goodneighbor, as soon as I did, I had nick with me, and they start bantering like they were long time friends ("nick I see you just got a check up you bucket of bolts" or something like that)

-How do you estabilish links between various settlements?
-How do you attract new citizens in a settlement?
-What are scrap workbenches for?

Played till very late last night.

Finally made it to Diamond City. Not as slowly as some mind, but I wanted to get involved in the quests a bit more.

Quick question; I don't know whether I've just missed them, but I haven't come across too many proper quests north of Diamond City, bar the BoS. Have I just not looked properly?

I am wondering if anyone else is struggling with the sneak mechanics in this game? I have 11 agility (maxed + an item buff), three points into the "ninja" perk, all leather gear (some pieces with the "shadowed" or "muffled" prefixes), and silenced weapons, and yet I can still be sneaking through an area at night, and have an enemy LOS me from 30 feet away. It will often go into caution when this happens, but because of how sensitive enemies are even if I am able to go back to hidden, they will simply see me again as soon as I enter the room.

Is there something I am missing with regard to stealth mechanics in this? Pretty frustrated that I have put all this energy into trying to make a sneak character and it isn't working out at all.

yoooooooooooooooo what the fuck, Nick is as much a hoarder as I am!

I just traded with him and hes FULL OF GUNS lol.
