I have no idea how I got that one. I don't know what I have to do to get the Homerun Trophy, either.

Don't know about Home Run yet, but spoilering how the Touchdown one pops just in case:

The super mutant suiciders run at you holding bombs like footballs. If they reach you, blow up and kill you, the Touchdown trophy pops. I think the super mutant even yelled "Touchdown!" or something similar when it happened to me, but I'm not 100% on that.

Question regarding B
rotherhood of Steel

I see some chopper which fight super mutants and then crash. Are they suppose to crash or am I doing something wrong ?

I'm just getting started but God damn do I suck at this game. Two ghouls? I'm dead. Two Raiders? Probably dead. Super Duper Mart is a no fly zone for me.

Can't even get to this fucking Power Plant. It's 9am and I need a drink.

I'm rapidly approaching the point where I need to choose a faction to side with. I've already spoken with the
Brotherhood
and the
Railroad
but still haven't really gotten in touch with
The Institute
.

Anyone who has been through the main questline or chosen a faction yet who can talk about the benefits of going with one over the other? I don't really care about achievements too much since I can just go back to a save to play the others later if I really want to, but for my first time through i'd like to choose one that has the best benefits.

I'm really not keen on the
Brotherhood
because I don't like their attitude.

They are not mutually exclusive, at least the brotherhood of steel and the Railroad, since I joined both.
It looks like it works the same way skyrim worked in which you can climb the ranks of all factions.

man, one of the coolest locals so far wasnt even a sidequest, just one of those miscelaneous things!

talking about the
hallucinagen building
, freaky!

You're fine. The game is difficult early on. Get some levels and decent guns under your belt and you'll kill them all pretty easily.

Just finished Nick Valentines Story Only level 21 but I powered through it absorbing every thing I could from his story and F5 saving every few minutes depending on certain areas..Nick really is my favorite he might be a tad cliche in some of his background/character but who doesn't love him.
You get perks from max leveling your relationship with your companions but I can't see myself going anywhere without Nick.

How do some of you guys have crazy ammounts of ammo? I have nothing i cant even kill more raiders for some cause i cant fight them lol. Do i have to go to diamond city? Or is there other towns? Super frustrating was never an issue in 3/NV

Playing on hard, I've never had to buy any ammo from vendors. O
Just loot EVERYTHING.

Of course, Steam has to throw a hissy fit on the weekend where I want to give this a go.

Not a fan of the armor pieces system. Kinda encourages you to stick with the same shitty getup when there's better-looking armors to find which can't be modified.

Loving the game but my God Bethesda should be ashamed of this fucking abortion of a ui they made. There's no explanation for symbols, there are too few sorting options (like come on, make it so equipted pieces hang out at the top of something, or sort wearable gear by slot), mark all settlers that currently aren't assigned to tasks to make it easier to assign and those that are already assigned, when hovering over them keep the highlighting but since they aren't always close to their task a little box should come up that says start they are assigned to (food/defense/trade), and for fucks sake mark companions on the radar and in the world.

Holy hell.

The apparel section of the inventory is absolutely atrocious.

It's impossible to know if you put on "X"piece of apparel what it will require you take off. Impossible to identify trade offs and maximize your overall defense.

It needs categories. How couldn't they have noticed that. 5 hours in that's my most wanted mod.

Not looking at the Touchdown part of the post but I got the Home Run one figured out on my own. Didn't even know there was an Achievement, lol.

In Diamond City, find the home plate and then run the bases in the city. They're in plain sight. Once you get back home it pops

no it's not. the parts it will cover start flashing on your guy on the right side of the screen.

I've seen people complain about this and I didn't think it would be a big deal, but I really hate having a voiced protagonist with a backstory. It's really killing the immersion for me. The dialogue system doesn't help.

Part of the fun of these games is the actual role playing. Say I wanted to be an evil jerk. I mean I could do that, but it would be totally incongruous with the opening of the story when you have this sweet family man with a "good guy voice."

And the way this guy acts is ridiculous given his circumstances. It's like nothing really big happened. If they didn't have him voiced that wouldn't be a big deal because his emotions would be more left up to my imagination.

Anyway, I hate to complain because I'm still having a great time with it but this is a much bigger deal for me than I thought it would be.

I get that. But what am I trading off by equipping something else. It only has a 3-plus or 3-minus system.

It needs more detail than just that. If I go from a 21 dmg to a 0 dmg it will give me 3 minuses where as it's still giving me 3 minuses if I go from a 21 dmg to a 5 dmg.

yeah the voiced character does not feel Fallout to me.

Some times things just doesn't make any sense in this game. Spoilers for early sidequest near diamond city:
Vault 81
The exit you take from the secret vault, which takes you directly to the main vaults entrance. People been living in that vault for over 200 years and nobody ever thought about that mysterious door that's locked and no way to open it! Well I guess a lot of things don't make sense if you think about them for five seconds.

I haven't yet, need to get the Blacksmith perk right?

I wasn't planning to, but thinking I'll go with a melee build honestly. The melee combat isn't ground breaking, but it's hugely improved from FO3/Skyrim, and feels so satisfying to pull off.

No, you can make several upgrades without the blacksmith perk. Pretty cool ones too.

Melee has always been had OP potential in Bethesda games, so it's not a bad move. The Rooted perk sounds fantastic.

I see what you're saying.

Any good weapon in the beginning?
I am still using that initial pistol...

thanks

Best weapon you will find in the first 10 levels give or take a few is a modded anything. Pick up the type of gun you like and then take it to your workbench in Sanctuary and mod the everliving shit out of it.

Yeah the dialogue system has been the only bummer for me so far. All the options are the same, basically, and the charisma checks usually are just 'pay me.' I don't think a voiced protagonist is a great fit for the Fallout universe.

just got a assault rifle. just a normal assault rifle, then I noticed it uses ammo ive never used. well, now I need to fully mod it, or pref. get one with a special skill

im obcessed with having 1 of each ammo gun, even tho where I am now 50 hours in, I have more ammo on all my guns that ill ever need

100% agree. I'm still enjoying the game but it's affecting almost every interaction. It feels like an 'Evil' playthrough would be even more difficult with the voice actor's tonal dissonance. Not that they're bad voice actors! They both excellent, just in a strange situation.

I wish the new "next gen" fad was bringing back destructible environments. I would love a game like fallout to have it. Maybe two consoles from now :(.

Just format your hard drive because you're fucked! You're fucked I say!!

I killed Boomer on Hard at level 9 and it took some doing with a 23 DMG .38 cal modified pipe riffle.

The only way I would even try to fight something like a legendary alpha deathclaw is to get into a place I know it cant fit through and then spam that thing with a mini-gun :(

I've just started this, a few hours in, and boy, does it look and feel like same old... which, considering that noone outside Bethesda hasn't even tried since Fallout/Skyrim, is not half bad.

Game really feels like it was made in some kind of "Bethesda game generator" tool, like New Super Mario Bros games feel like. I hope the next Elder Scrolls game really progresses in technology, because this game sure hasn't (so far).

I've been using the Sack hood with straps helmet since I first started and I want a new helmet. There's a
Straps hood with hoses
, lol

Seems like it doesn't matter unless I want the RAD resistance.

Pretty much.

I'm going crazy on these mod perks. I love it. Hard to decide what to dump points into though....I gotta learn to go with the flow.

Is the play time on ps4 accurate? It says 1d 21h for me.

It counts Standby time too :(
make sure you quit the game when you're done playing.

Our descendants after the great war are lazy fucks. It's been over 200 years, can someone clean up debris a little. Maybe have some pride of where you live and move things like skeletons and piles of dirt from where you live and sleep.

I assigned sturges to a bar, half the time i find him at his post, the other half hes on top of the workshop roof for whatever reason

Also, is it me, or do all my settlers move over to the bar in the evening? so in theory i could place some stools and they'd all sit?

When is the point of no return for the Brotherhood of Steel?
I finished the mission at Arcjet Systems and told Danse I'll think about joining... Does going back to the police station force me to join the BoS right then? Can I join but change my mind and join an opposing faction later?

Bethesda had kind of this issue with Fallout 3 as well in terms of limiting that with being the son/daughter and father quest line but the non-voiced character minimised that issue for a lot of people, there were still a couple of confines from the start of Fo3 and Fo4 has it too. I remember complaints at Fo3 about people not being able to RP as an abandoned child, memory loss/amnesia, or that they murdered their parents, etc, it always had that parent relationship in vault + main quest relating to that hindering some RP. Only in F:NV really were you 100% blank slate, being the unknown courier. Personally I am ale to RP and "forget" things in games but I know a lot of people have a difficult time doing that understandably. So yeah I agree with you, still immensely enjoying the game because Bethesda always nails open world design and exploration/adventuring, the world building is always interesting and the world is dynamic and alive which most open world games except Bethesda's fail in. Plus for once Bethesda has actually made a more interesting and better written story since Morrowind. Terms of writing/story Bethesda has definitely improved. Still enjoying the game even if they took dialogue in a bit of a different direction.

I think we'll see an overhaul mod as one of the big mods for this and I'm sure it'll be the first. The game entirely being subtitled will kick it off quick. What it should include is

a) Muted protagonist.
b) List-based dialogue system with each question/response summarised like in Fo3 and NV.
c) Allow intelligence stat check as well instead of just charisma with certain choices.

We've already got mods like muted protagonist but it's not fully fleshed out or anything yet.

1st world problems

Couldn't play FO4 yesterday due to work and family stuff. Can't play this morning due to Windows update. Can't play this after noon due to work stuff.

Maybe in the evening!? I'm hurtIng man! Got the shakes!

I should buy a bar. What pieces do you need?

Found another ghoul hut over radiation, only 48 + per second.... I bet something good is in there. Also found a dead body head first in a pool of radiation with it's legs stuck up in the air, but can't get to it as the rads are 60+.... I bet both have some great loot.

I'm really not keen on the

There is a point during the story where you will have to 100% side with a faction, which will immediately boot you out of the others (except for
Minutemen
pretty sure you stay a part of that group regardless). This depends on how far you are into each faction's story lines. I chose
Brotherhood
myself, even though I ended up not really liking them towards the end - I chose it mainly because they tease END GAME CHARACTER SPOILER
Liberty Prime
towards the end of their quest line and I really wanted to see how that character would affect the ending level.

While the ending was a bit underwhelming, that quest line did provide my favourite moral choice of the whole game, and once the game is over you get an incredibly badass reward that I am pretty sure is exclusive to that faction.

I am not sure how much of the ending happens anyway, or if the rewards are spread out across all factions, but I was satisfied enough with my decision!

Who opposes who, faction wise? Where do the BoS of fit in? Is it a two way thing like NV, or can you join one of the prominent factions AND the BoS?
