Couple of noob questions.

1.) I find power armor to be confusing. So is it basically a shell and then you have individual parts to the shell? How do I store it on one of those racks?

2.) does it make more sense to scrap crappy weapons and armor over selling them?

3.) so your materials are all store in the workbenches and then you can access those materials from anywhere?

Sorry a lot of this stuff isn't really explained.

Lol just made it to Elder Maxson
and listened to the speech. Everyone is like KILL THE SYNTHS!! While Valentine is standing in the back of the room like....

Yeah, I took Valentine for that too. It's weird, because they have so much dialog where the companions are involved or commenting on things but never when it comes to Nick and Synths

OMG! Please tell me I can't pick just any Perk in any order if I have enough SPECIAL in a given column. Pleeease. I couldn't live with the fact that I just put several points into Perks that I wouldn't have picked if I didn't thought they were necessary for Hacking and Lock-Picking.
I have bad news for you Karu.

Regarding 2 and 3.

2) It's advisable to store weapons and scrap them once you get the Scrapper perks (level 1 and 2). You'll get more scrap for your weapons than without the perk.

3) Materials in workbenches are confined to that specific settlement unless you use the Local Leader perk and establish a connection between settlements using a settler.

yes, that is exactly how it works. just get out of the armor next to a rack and then hit a to craft and it will move into the rack

2.) does it make more sense to scrap crappy weapons and armor over selling them?

only if you have the srapper 2 perk

3.) so your materials are all store in the workbenches and then you can access those materials from anywhere?

only if you have the local leader perk and set up supply lines

1. You basically just transfer parts into it like a workbench (or at least that's what it seems like) and the original part goes into your inventory. You can upgrade the parts by using the crafting function at the suit station. You don't actually store the suit on the rack, you just need to get it close and exit. When you're close enough, you get the option to craft and repair it.

2. Only if you need the supplies, or if the weapon has a value less than around 80 or so.

3. You can only access them from anywhere if the benches are linked through a perk and supply lines.

2) It's advisable to store weapons and scrap them once you get the Scrapper perks (level 1 and 2). You'll get more scrap for your weapons than without the perk.

That. Forgot about hoarding until you get scrapper (it was one of the earliest perks I took).

Got four suits of power armour :D Some of them are frames. I take it you have to craft pieces for the frames or do you find them out in the wild?

The building stuff in this is rough. I'm trying to build a nice warehouse for my armour but the walls seem to have a mind of their own in terms of where they want to go. Just let me make a square room damn it.

I might have to bump up the difficulty because I'm level 21 now and I'm absolutely shredding everything to bits with just the Deliverer, even deathclaws take like four mags of I can get the stealth bonus. And the Minutemen General outfit is so good that I've got like 150 stimpacks saved up because of all the damage I don't take. I was just planning on doing a quick suicide run on Libertaria to see what was back there and I ended up clearing out the entire place no problem.

Just spent an hour beating the
Grognak JRPG
holotape. It was pretty cute.

Spoilerish impressions:
Kind of challenging at points, but too long for no save file and it has an easy-peasy final boss.

Did you actually complete the quest? I don't know if
Tina
left, but I had the marker telling me to talk to her even though I'd already convinced her. I went to the
lab to talk to Bobby and Rachel
, and that finished the quest.
I definitely finished the quest. I did have the same thing happen as someone mentioned below though, where one of the mission tasks was to talk to her but nothing would happen until I spoke to the nurse...

You find them out in the wild. I don't think you can craft them

I haven't found any of the modern power armor yet but I'm overflowing with the T models

Did you put down a floor before trying to setup walls? Don't believe you can craft any of the parts, but you can upgrade them.

What difficulty are you playing on?

Much appreciated everyone!!

Ahhhh, I never thought of that. Hopefully that'll make the wall corners behave.

I wonder how you get parts for new frames then? My original set has full armour, I've got an old set with only a top half and 2 empty frames.

I don't understand equiping companions. I give Piper cool things to use but she continues to use a shitty handgun that's not even in her inventory.

About ten hours in myself now, playing on 'Survival' difficulty unassisted by guides or internet help. Just a pure blind run, using my wits and resources to overcome some of the BS this sequel throws at me.

Game has SLOWLY started clicking for me, but I have a laundry list of things that bother the piss of of me. Some related to difficulty design scaling, others systemic to core mechanics. Sadly there are just not as many design changes or upgrades I actively agree are for the better here. The engagement of exploring a hostile land and uncovering mysterious quests and vignettes still captivates as much as any Beth RPG and remains its strongest asset. I'll consider discussing where the game design falters in detail in a later post as I give more playtime to ensure things.

I play on survival and the game is way too easy after level 20. At least with the sniper rifle / shotgun combo I have. The only thing that doesn't die instantly from a critical headshot, are Deathclaws and Legendary Mirelurk Hunter. The only thing that ever kills me, is a rocketlauncher hit out of nowhere. I rarely, if ever die otherwise.

At first I thought I was encountering a bug when the special weapons from Legendary enemy variants were not showing up in my inventory. Turns out your companion can have them in their inventory, even if you never specifically gave it to them. Hancock was hilarious from the moment you meet him, and just gets better the more you use him as a companion.

Are the missions to go kill Ghouls and Raiders for the settlements pretty much endless if you do not fortify those areas? I still cannot be bothered messing around with that stuff until I have done way more story and core side missions. I just hope I am not setting myself up for an endless loop of whack a mole.

what happens when your Power Armor runs out of juice? do you have to exit, inser a new core, and go back in, or as long as you have cores you just keep going?

I had to put the game on Hard very early on, since I had been upgrading my weapons as much as possible. Even now though, it's not a matter of not being able to explode most enemies (other than a Deathclaw or a Legendary Assaultron) but the damage enemies inflict upon me.

Ironically, I just picked up a Hazmat suit (+1000 rad resist) on the last mission I did, and I just now ran into my first pack of "Child of Atom" that shoot with gamma guns.

You start moving very slowly. Sorta like being over the weight limit. My power armor ran out half way through clearing the factory and I just slowly marched my way through the rest of it.

You have to manually force them to equip guns/attire in the trading screen, and they need ammunition or they revert back to their default weapon (which has unlimited ammo).

Are you actually equipping them on her though? You have to press the equip button on the items.

If you have another core in your inventory it auto-equips that. If you're out of cores you move much slower and can't fast travel.

Saw my first legendary in hours (a mutated legendary ghoul reaver) and got a broken piece of wood that does 50% extra damage to humans.

While I of course love my piece of wood, is there any way to make sure you get... Um... More useful items?

Play on hard mode. Or, if you want very hard.

You'll encounter more legendary enemies which give you better gear.

It was same for me until I got the General outfit, which has an insane amount of defense for almost no weight. I also fought some church of atom guys and it was hilarious with the hazmat suit.

Wait, what were you doing? I'm a bit confused and just want to make sure I got this perk system under control.

So, am I right in assuming power armor appearances are determined by level? I've went to several locations that were said to have T-51b suits, only to find a T-60 suit instead.

Not too far into the game (about level 12 and only done a couple sidequests), and I was itching to find a long range rifle for the longest time that wasn't some crap pipe weapon. Finally I find a Combat Rifle and the Gun Nut perks pay off to create an overpowered (at least for now) mid-range weapon. I had no idea that if you modify a weapon for long range purposes it actually changes its name to a Sniper Rifle.

I was also surprised at the usefulness of the Syringer, which I had no interest in and didn't expect to find - until I did. The debuffs of the different ammo are pretty significant, like -25% dmg resist, frenzy, poison, or blindness.

Enjoying it so far, just wish it wasn't JUST as janky as previous games. I also am disappointed in the dialogue and dialogue system. Seems like such a waste of resources for the voice acting.

Pretty sure it scraps the whole thing. I think you have to remove the mod and apply the standard one first. Maybe someone can confirm? I'm at work
I tried removing a mod from a gun via the weapons table, but it won't let me.

Also, I am getting ultra frustrated as Dogmeat constantly being in my way.

oh shit, 6 cranks on a laser musket blows things up real nice

But how was it for the first 20 levels ?

So I just discovered that one-shotting an NPC with a silenced weapon while hidden, even in Diamond City, will not cause anyone to react. That was a satisfying way to permanently get those Triggermen off my back after completing Diamond City Blues.

I am profoundly enjoying my time with Fallout 4. When I see this, I thank god, or Zeus, or Odin, or the one Cylon God for making people different from one another, because I would hate to be disappointed by a Bethesda game.

Then you would simply profoundly enjoy the things I profoundly enjoy? Who cares what it is you enjoy profoundly, as long as you do

Unless it's something illegal, of course

e: world would be a fucked up place if everyone enjoyed the same things to the same extent, though

So now that we've almost had a week with the game, what do you all think of the size of the game space? There were a lot of people freaking out before the game launched, but I'm quite happy with what's here.

I'm more than 30 hours in, and I still haven't touched the southern portion of the map, and parts of the north and middle areas are still left pretty uncharted. I'm really impressed with Bethesda packed so much content into the space.

damn,
witchcraft museum
is actually fucking creepy, even tho you know exactly whats coming. And I got rekt lol

Haha, holy shit. USS Constitution mission spoilers.
Seeing that ship take off and then promptly smash into another tower was goddamn glorious. Especially because I'd just fired up the Classical Radio Station for accompaniment. Brilliant.

I've been playing on hard thinking I'd get more legendary enemies but I think I have that backwards and easier difficulties have them pop up more often. Almost makes we want to go to normal for the loot.

I love how densely packed downtown Boston is, especially how the game lets you traverse much of it across rooftops, fire escapes, etc. It really feels like an authentic urban area. I'm about 30 hours in as well and haven't gone south of the main city at all.
