So its all about the
final quest and weighing the rewards? I can run both their missions ill just be asked to take sides in the final one? Say if do all but the last brotherhood mission, then switch to its opposing faction and do all their missions but the last. then can i go back to brotherhood and the faction i was in 5 mins ago?

Eh not really, moreso (and again, being vague on story here, not going to spoil anyone
when you pass a certain point the opposing faction is suddenly mentally aware you're with group A, so you can't do their quests. So you start the final missions by picking a side, the lockout point is actually a decent bit before that.

Legendary Bloodbugs are the absolute worst because you can't really cheese them with geometry, and they will chase you forever, and they can be extremely difficult to hit outside of VATS. QUOTE]

Ha! I ran up to one when I saw it and immediately went into VATS and used my Bladed Tire Iron and my crit meter (I should say I have a lot of perks and bobbles devoted to crit... my build mostly plays out as a melee sniper... I literally have no mid-range game and get worked-over in a fire-fight) to kill it in two hits. The trick to them is you need to deal all your damage in your first two melee hits in VATS and kill it before it evolves. Before it evolves, its a slightly stronger variant but after it evolves, its a damage sponge.

Like as in
I have to pick if I wanna do quests with the railroad OR brotherhood? Can't do both since they have opposite ideals?

Yes. Exactly this. You can
only do both to a certain point before they both give you a mission that on start informs you you're enemies with the opposing side

Nah. Is that common for melee builds?

It'd most certainly help get your health, damage, and damage resistance up. That being said, I haven't tried a melee build out much yet. I'd imagine that you'd need good armor and a good bladed weapon to make it work.

Any other sniper builds out their clear out Lexington and the car factory Raiders from the overpass. Raining down death from upon high and hearing the microwave ding go off with each confirmed kill is so satisfying .

Hell yeah, great to hear. Thanks!
I'll do Brotherhood until that pops up then, and then it's all about that Railroad <3

On this note, just how good can snipers get? I stopped using them when I modded my silence M1911 which fires as fast as I can tap it to do uh...90 some damage a shot? I have a field day one or two shotting everything with a semi auto.

Next up is fully auto assault rifle with 70 dmg and 170 damage on my revolver.

On that note, I find no need for miniguns and fat mans and such anymore. I'm sitting on 75 odd stimpaks and the ability to roadkill everything.

Yw. Just make sure to keep autosaves on or something so you can reload after the quest starts :P

Some of the merchant prices in this game are nuts. 20,000 caps for a Devastator's Chestpiece?

tbf that's better than most of my armor and I'm a level 30. It's not really worth your money though, you generally don't need that good armor. Then again, don't ask me probably, I'm sitting near the end and havent been having issues, but I'm wearing a heavy suit.

So far I really dig the settlement stuff, but I do agree that while storing junk is easy, gathering it could be better. Mainly, I wish there was a way to manage which materials you've flagged so that you didn't always have to go back to a workshop and find an object that has a) materials you no longer need to collect but have already flagged, or b) materials you need and haven't been flagged yet. My kingdom for an easy menu where you can just tick/untick materials directly.

Have I got good news for you! You can do it direct from the Pipboy. In the Junk menu you can press RB (don't know what the Mouse/KB equivalent) is to see a display of the materials and you can tick and untick them right there.

I found myself surrounded by two Deathclaws, a regular and a Alpha. I took the next thirty minutes with a sniper and a pipe pistol and killed them by using the tower as cover and having them fight the crabs (which included a Legendary.)

Was hard as fuck since I'm only level 13 (well got to 14 from the kills.)

At the same level I had an Alpha and a Legendary Alpha Deathclaw spawn at that location. Took massive amounts of ammo to take them out but I did it.

Have you faced a legendary alpha deathclaw yet? I haven't yet but have a fresh pack of diapers waiting for when it happens :)

I love my laser riffle and all and can upgrade to deal more damage but my go to gun has been the simple modified and scoped pipe riffle that does, get this, 23 damage. Its completely garbage with VATS but it stupid-effective when I manually aim. The shooting is so damned improved in this game.

Being able to do higher crit damage because you are hitting the right week spots (read: never miss head day) when you have confidence your aim is on point almost eliminates the need for high base damage. because I use .38mm, there's plenty of bullets to pick off at parts when head's not an option.

Guys if you don't know already, if you give one of your companions power armor their fusion core will last forever. It doesn't matter if you give them a 20/100 fusion core, they won't need another one.

You come across some really delightful scenes when wandering around in this game.

One thing that really bothers me about this game is how the dialogue system hamstrings you in regard to roleplaying. In Fallout I like to play a self serving sociopath, it just feels fitting in the post apocalypse. But I found you can't really be all that bad in this game. You can certainly be nice though. I thought I'd be a snarky asshole instead, but the sarcastic lines aren't always present when I want them to be. The result is a homogenized character that doesn't have a diverse set of options. This seems like a fundamental problem that can't be solved through DLC or mods, though it could be improved upon.

I really love the workshop feature now that I've gotten the hang of it, but I really, really hope that Bethesda adds a lot more items to it from rocks and trees, to nice (read: non-shanty shack) building components, and improves the options available to us in it. I'd do bad things to be able to turn the snap feature on and off at will. I suppose things like that will come via mods on PC.

Also, does anyone know if the string lights are in the game? IIRC they were in the little montage Bethesda showed off at E3, but as far as I've been able to tell, they aren't actually in the game

I fought a legendary alpha Deathclaw at a tower where you turn on a siren and two show up. I killed the vanilla Deathclaw and then the Legendary Alpha mutated, picked me up and knocked my head off.

So today I ran into a Legendary Alpha Deathclaw while on my way out of a building to complete a quest for the Railroad. Basically, I pushed a button to unlock a door, was informed the power was turned off, then all of a sudden there he was.

Bastard only dropped a lame tire iron, too.

God Piper sucks so much. I don't think I've ever disliked a follower character in an RPG more.

(very mild spoilers)

Her likes and dislikes are both inconsistent and annoying. I went to a town and a mobster dude immediately threatened me with violence if I didn't pay him. I told him to fuck off and got a "Piper disliked that" message. Given how much she likes to talk about how important the ugly truth is she sure doesn't like seeing the ugly truth, ever. I really hope I get to call her on it later in the game but I imagine this is just garbo Bethesda writing.

Ditched Piper the second I found Cait.

is that randomly decided lol?
she likes everytime im being smug like that or if i steal stuff.
strong is so annoying that regard. he hates everything except killing humans.

I like Cait because she often likes it when I do something questionable and she loves it when I do drugs, which I do a lot of. My character is a major druggy.

I might take Strong out sometime. He'd probably enjoy my evil lifestyle.

"human junk is bad. old junk is even worse"

That reminds me of Preston's really odd dislikes.

So I brought him to diamond city, went into the Diamond City radio trailer, and flat out murdered the MC.... And he didn't care. I then proceeded to steal his belongings and he suddenly had a problem with it.

The theft detection is the worst part about likes and dislikes, yes.

Also, you did that quest wrong ;-; SHOULDNT HAVE BEEN MEAN

I didn't know there was a quest for that.
I just hated hearing him on the radio, so I flat out shot him in the face.
I did end up reloading afterward.

Piper dislikes the very concept of you entering Covenant,
a town that hates synths so much they make you take a test to get in. She runs a fucking newsletter about how scary robots are! This should be her paradise!

Hmm.... Didn't know that,
since I had murdered everyone in Covenant following the questline before I even met Piper. I wonder if she'd still be upset if I brought her into Covenant now that I own it?

It seems so far that melee companions rule the day because of how fast they chew through ammo when equipped with guns.
And, of course, Codsworth destroys everyone with no need of gear or ammo.

i really love this game, cant wait to post my full impressions once im level 50 and done with most of the quests

have issues with the voiced character and some the dialogue (who doesnt)

and the classic jank still rears its head from time to time

but my god exploring this world is absolutely sublime

Piper, like all the followers I've used thus far, likes it when you're breaking into things the most. Her other moral likes and dislikes don't really matter since she thinks lock picking is the bees knees.

Cait is the same way. She likes it when I use drugs. She's not getting my drugs.
