Does Dogmeat count as a companion?

He does count as a companion in some, but not all things. If you have dogmeat you can't have any other companion BUT the lone wanderer perk still applies with him as if you're.. well.. a lone wanderer. So in that sense he doesnt count as a companion.

I got a question,

Will I ever get better stuff to build? What I mean is, will I get better beds to make, or cleaner metal/wooden walls to make when I eventually start to make my house?

Recently I went to Cabot's house and his interiors are so....nice. Clean walls, floors, etc. Will I ever be able to make something like that? :(

This is where mods come in. In fact, I think there is already a mod for clean pre-war doors.

I'm pretty sure he's maxed once you've acquired him. Could be wrong though.

I guess that'd make sense.

There are magazines that have new blueprints, but nothing "clean" that I've seen so fae

*random(?) event spoiler*
The fake Preston Garvey had made me laugh really hard. The "Oh shit" he let out as he ran away was priceless. I killed him, but is there any other outcome to that encounter?

The taking independance quest in which you
take the castle
.
Does it lock any other faction stuff out?
Im so unaure about lockouts in this game.

Not sure how to spoil this so uh

Disappointed in the outcome of the Vault
81 quest. The files on the terminal pretty clearly make the whole thing morally grey. Yeah they were using the humans as test subjects, but it's clear that with Curie's help they would have created the ultimate cure to all diseases. The overseer protected the people but doomed countless others. So obviously in the final dialogue section the only outcome is "yeah fuck those guys for trying to do that stuff." No hint of what I read.

lame

Hard to know but the more Picket Fences magazines you get the more stuff you unlock. I did get clean beds and now I got huge statues (huge lion from the state houses).

Has anyone said that they are working on a mod that will replace the unhelpful text in the dialogue wheel with what the character actually says? From a technical standpoint it seems easier than most mods out there.

Yeah. But cool enough you can still use the lone wanderer perk with him.

That's what i wanted to hear and actually forgot to write, thanks.

There's a no voice for Player Character mod, so I'd imagine someone is thinking about it. Wouldn't expect it anytime soon, though. At miinimum, that'd be a lot of text to change.

I fought a legendary alpha Deathclaw at a tower where you turn on a siren and two show up. I killed the vanilla Deathclaw and then the Legendary Alpha mutated, picked me up and knocked my head off.

Was just there. Didn't know much about the place so I snuck around and found a little tower so I climbed up. At the top was a switch so I hit it. Sires roar and I hear lots of growling. Two Deathclaws arrive and the raiders proceeded to shit their pants and fight them. I watched the whole thing through my sniper scope until it was one raider and one Deathclaw. Raider won. Two seconds later I headshot him.

I won.

Didn't see anything about Alpha Male Legendary though. Kind of glad I chickend it up in the tower TBH.

One thing that really bothers me about this game is how the dialogue system hamstrings you in regard to roleplaying. In Fallout I like to play a self serving sociopath, it just feels fitting in the post apocalypse. But I found you can't really be all that bad in this game. You can certainly be nice though. I thought I'd be a snarky asshole instead, but the sarcastic lines aren't always present when I want them to be. The result is a homogenized character that doesn't have a diverse set of options. This seems like a fundamental problem that can't be solved through DLC or mods, though it could be improved upon.

It's the mass effect syndrome. You the save world or save the world while being an asshole. While I personally don't play super evil characters in Fallout, I appreciated the option to literally screw over everyone you meet and basically become a raider/slaver.

Gotta remember this is Bethesda storytelling not Obsidian sadly, there won't be much depth to find here.

You come across some really delightful scenes when wandering around in this game.

Today I saw someone hanging from the ceiling from a meat hook and their severed head was dangling from their spine by a chain. I think it was in
Kendall Hospital

i am almost near the end of the main story line and i feel that Fallout New Vegas is the better game. i just cant find anything in Fallout 4 that's enjoyable.

I think the actual environment is a lot better. Gameplay and shooting as well. The settlements are a great new feature.

The rest I can't speak to because I'm not far enough in 4.

This is so pathetic, but an eyebot happened to come through Sanctuary (and triggered a quest?), and I spent five minutes pathetically running after it to get a good look at the FO4 model. It's not the same thing, but ED-E, my love...

Holy shit! That's impressive! I was quite astonished in Lexington to find a skeleton
in a tub with mannequins holding machetes standing in a circle around it. In the same room there was a corpse in a bed with a mannequin laying next to it. I assumed the raiders (and/or level designers!) were having a bit of fun.

I'm actually surprised to hear people say that. I'm at almost 40 hours and it's easily the best Fallout that I've played in terms of both world design and gameplay.

So what constitutes an area being "Cleared." I mean I know it's clearing out enemies and loot but how come some areas I get it but some I don't? Can every be "Cleared"?

Yes Fallout (3 and NV) have always been known for their dark humor, heh.

By the way for those that may be unaware, the script extender team that did Oblivion's (OBSE), Fallout 3's (FOSE), New Vegas' (NVSE) and Skyrim's (SKSE) has already begun work and has good progress on Fallout 4's script extender, (F4SE).

For those that don't know about it, basically the script extender for these games is what made all the crazy and good mods possible plus the use of the creation toolkit from Bethesda in combination with it. So expect Skyrim levels of mods as well because the engine is a continued improvement over Skyrim's. http://f4se.silverlock.org/ There is also a thread on it at nexus http://forums.nexusmods.com/index.php?/topic/3370945-wipz-fallout-4-script-extender-f4se/page-6

Also, from what I've heard of other modders is that the Bethesda has made very good changes to the mod pipeline, things that have been requested for a long time, especially regarding the art/asset pipeline I believe with texturing and such. We will be seeing a lot of good mods for this game. People have already started understanding/deconstructing the current UI system. Expect one day to have a total revamp of the game's dialogue system in when all of this properly gets under way.

Slightly Dumb Question. Which would do more, a Weapon that does +25% damage, or a weapon that ignores 30% of the target's Armor. Don't really know how the damage formula works.

Also, I swear my best weapon has to be a 10mm automatic pistol that sets the target on fire for 15 damage a shot. That fire damage must just ignore armor, since the thing tends to be more effective then any non-legendary automatic weapon, even the Gatling Gun.

Can anyone tell me what quest(s) I need to do with the Railroad in order to be able to mod clothes(not armor, but long johns etc)?

Pretty sure it's the quests for Tinker Tom and P.A.M.

Running around in almost any regular outfit that has amazing defensive stats is totally worth the effort.

Wooo bought the home in DC. Saving paid off.

Btw, the mayors secretary says that there might be jobs on some bounty board but I can't find it, anyone got an idea?

I got to Diamond City, and I'm supposed to find Piper and talk to her. But I can't find her anywhere. The quest marker points to her office, but she's not in there. Anyone else encountered this problem?

After a long session with multiple companions, I'm impressed at the amount of work spend 'upgrading them' from their FO3 counterparts. Took a lot of stuff from New Vegas, and, while not revolutionizing it, took the ball and ran with it in terms of (some of) the companions.

Btw, the mayors secretary says that there might be jobs on some bounty board but I can't find it, anyone got an idea?

It's super informal, just a knife in the side of a house. Should be right in the middle of town, behind the 'center' ring if you were entering the city.

While this is true, I feel that it still misses the awesomeness of the (item spoiler)
Shroud costume
, though I wish I knew the 'when' of its upgrades unlocking.

My first Legendary is a Radroach... surprising when it happened but really LOL worthy, to be honest. Didn't expect that...

Won a fight against a skull marked Boomer wearing Power Armor and a Legendary Raider and their friends soon afterwards though, so a Fatman, new set of Power Armor equipment, a starred weapon, all in level 7. Not bad...

Though what the hell was that Legendary Raider mutates thing... half expecting a Las Plagas bursting from his head. What does a mutation do anyways...?

Heals them and makes them a little stronger.

I'm really loving the game so far, but I do have a few issues with it:

-Technical jankiness and slowdown. I mean, I expected this, but it is still annoying.
-There's a lot of systems that they just don't explain. I spent hours grinding levels to get my CHA up and establish supply lines between settlements, but couldn't figure out how to do it proper until a 15 minute google search later. Same goes for explaining electricity and pylons(not needing wires for one thing).
-The dialogue system ain't great.
-And this may be because there's no DLC yet, but the game overall feels...smaller than either Fallout 3 or New Vegas. Like there's less to do somehow. And the repeatable quests don't really help that feeling any.
-Companion likes/dislikes seem really arbitrary.

However, there are some things I really really like in this game:

-The refinement of the perks/stats system(and dumping of skills) seems perfect in this game, especially with the magazines/companion maxing giving you new small perks. Getting quest perks in 3 and New Vegas(like with the synth on the ship in 3 and all the ones in the superscience DLC in NV) was one of my favorite things in those games, and now they are everywhere.
-No level cap. I cannot stress enough how much I love this. Now I can rectify any character build errors without having to start over if I'm just willing to spend more time exploring. I'm level 50 already and can now devote the next 10 levels or so fixing the issues with my build.
-Legendary weapons and armor. Oh, how I love this.
-The crafting system for weapons and armor.
-It's progressive about how it handles relationships.

I still feel that Witcher 3 is a more refined experience in a lot of ways, but this may still turn out to be my GOTY.

Any of you had to deal with the bug during Confidence Man quest?
Bull and Gouger become invincible at the Brewery
shit was annoying but luckily I was able to fix it via going back to an older save from the
Dug Out Inn
.

I just got my first quest from both of them (P.A.M.'s seems like it's a repeatable one though?). Tinker Tom gave me a device to use in the field. I assume this is the quest I need?

And can you explain how the process works? Is it a perk I get that just lets me mod clothes? Also, you made it sound like it just works on outfits? Can I not pair it up with the armor I already have? My goal was to mod a BOS undersuit or Vault outfit or long johns under all my armor pieces.

I found a document in
Nick's home
that implies that those in the know are aware of the
NCR's existence, all the way across the country, including the name of its capitol.
Weird. It'd be super interesting if the Brotherhood of Steel became the defacto government of the east coast and
some future Fallout game were centered around an all-out war between the forces somewhere in the central mainland.

General Atomics Galleria is the first area to enter my memorable list. I've only been to like 19 areas all around the northern map.

I stumbled upon that place last night and enjoyed it a lot. Spent a lot of playtime aimlessly roaming and found a ton of really great areas actually, my sessions today have been my favorite so far.

There's an impressive amount of dialog companions can have for different areas, that definitely stuck out.
