I got a Legendary Tommy Gun from the trader outside of Diamond City, called the Spray and Pray. It's a fully upgraded Tommy Gun with the best frame, best barrel, Silencer, biggest drum mag, and includes the perk "Bullets are explosive and deal 15pts of damage in an Area of Effect."

It's so goddamn fantastic, but I'm worried that I'll run out of ammo quickly since the drum holds 100 rounds and I only have 1000 rounds at the moment...
 
So what constitutes an area being "Cleared." I mean I know it's clearing out enemies and loot but how come some areas I get it but some I don't? Can every be "Cleared"?

The map can say an area is cleared even if you miss notable loot. It happened for me with a Legendary weapon that I missed and had to go back and retrieve
 
Is there any point to wall off Sanctuary for defence? I don't want to waste all my metal building a massive wall.

Is there any point to wall off Sanctuary for defence? I don't want to waste all my metal building a massive wall.

I haven't started attracting people to my town yet and I want to know F I should start on a wall first.

Immersion is about the only reason you can have a high rating defense with no walls.
 
Upgraded half my arsenal tonight.

Now my first Legendary drop, a Pipe Pistol that had stagger power, is equipped with a scope and a long barrel. Now it really is a Hand Cannon.

Do I have to establish everything to one hub? Is there any reason I wouldn't want them all networked together?

You can reassign them I believe. You'll see them roll up to the settlement Daily? as a "provisioner" with a brahmin. They can't be killed I believe. You can establish everything to one hub and no I can't think of a reason you wouldn't want them connected.
 
After 15 hours I have decided to stop playing the game. I will probably come back after all the dlc is released and a bunch of good mods are available.

I don't think the game is bad, but is not good either, and kind of a disappointment overall.

To summarize my feelings:

Dialogue system is not only bad as a rpg, but the writing is not good enough, it's hard to care about most of the characters, the game has a bad beginning, and most of the quest I have done won't be remembered after a week :(

The world seems good at the beginning, the wasteland looks much better with the new lighting, but once you start exploring the city... I don't know I have a similar experience that in Fallout 3, it feels like a bunch of corridors throw in there without much care. Finally I don't like playing in interiors, the animations are better, but not good really, and the camera and fov make the experience janky and claustrophobic to me. Beside all that, I haven't really find any location worth writing about.

I guess the crafting and settlement part of the game are a plus, as a gamer those are not themes I enjoy that much, also the UI is still bad in booth inventory management and in the building mode, and as an extra my character wasn't developed for that kind of build; I am willing to revisit this part of the game in the future, but on the other hand I think is just a timesink, II guess you should play in the hardest difficulty to make it relevant, but as I am not a fan of the combat I don't want to do it.

In the end after this time with the game Fallout 4 it's at is best while exploring around without a specific goal, finding encounters in open areas and not really while focusing in the history side of things, and to me that gets tiresome after a while.
 
Know what I like the most about this game? The weapon modding.

Know how in other games with a gear treadmill, you basically find a cool new toy... Only to outgrow it a few levels later and get a new "rare" and powerful toy. Or how about you find a weapon you cannot use (witcher 3) and you have to wait like 3 levels to actually use the damn thing?

If you fall in love with a weapon here? Give it a cute name, change it's parts, and keep on using it the entire game. Love it.
 
Will I be able to play as a stealthy chatacter? I've already gave up on the idea of playing stealthy intelligent suave character but will just being stealthy do? Or is it just "kill everybody" game?
 
I completed the main story in 16 hours, some of that time was doing side quests. I now have tons of side missions to do and loads of places to explore which I'm going to jump on!

This is my first open world game, so wanted to get through the story in case my interest dropped.
 
Today I saw someone hanging from the ceiling from a meat hook and their severed head was dangling from their spine by a chain. I think it was in
Kendall Hospital

there's a large cage with two Settler bodies and a couple of skeletons roasting over a bonfire.

You're not gonna be circumventing fights with stealth. For the most part, I've found stealth most effective for getting off early damage boosted shots on enemies.
 
I don't like how in settlement building mode you are still physically present in the world, you can get affected by radiation and such. And building multi storey stuff becomes sort of cumbersome.

If you shoot your provisioner/person doing the route the supply route ends (you can see it be removed from the map + the workshop at the other end isn't shared anymore). It's assumed since they travel that they can be attacked by raiders/ghouls/etc. I suppose if you do supply lines between like sanctuary and the place you find dogmeat, etc, the chances of him/her dying is slim, but further you go into the map, and the longer and more supply lines you have, the chances of them dying in the open increase I guess.
 
I still haven't done more than the bare minimum in settlement mode. Building things just isn't my groove.

The more I play the rest of the game, though, the more I like it. :)
 
So is the height limit of the buildings you create not the same throughout the world?
When I tried to build a tower in Sanctuary it limited me to 5 stories.
Yesterday I captured that lighthouse location and if I start building from the top of the lighthouse it still allows me to create several stories floating in the air, which is way higher from the ground that anything in Sanctuary.

Are there places higher than this? I just want a personal skysrcaper where I can store my power armor collection.
 
I found a document in

that implies that those in the know are aware of the
NCR's existence, all the way across the country, including the name of its capitol.
Weird. It'd be super interesting if the Brotherhood of Steel became the defacto government of the east coast and
some future Fallout game were centered around an all-out war between the forces somewhere in the central mainland.

One of the major NPCs
is from the west coast and traveled all the way from NCR held territory to the Commonwealth
.
 
I got to Diamond City, and I'm supposed to find Piper and talk to her. But I can't find her anywhere. The quest marker points to her office, but she's not in there. Anyone else encountered this problem?

Wish I had that dedication because I enjoyed what I've played so far of the story. But every time I tell myself I'll dive into the story I get distracted by some place that needs to be cleared, and then travel back to drop of the loot at Sanctuary only to spend the next 2 hours building new stuff in the town and forget what I was doing in the first place.

I think I encountered her almost immediately after arriving in the location you mentioned. Dunno what to tell you. Try finding a chair to sit at and waiting for several hours. That's what I do when things seem bugged in this game. Sometimes it fixes it.
 
Hello all.

I hit a bug where VATS ceased to work after failing to open a vault. I saw several reports of it (and similar loss-of-control issues) on the Internet, but no solutions other than to reload a save before the issue.

I believe I've found the fix for it, and am not trying to pass it along to as many people as possible.

Short answer:
Enter 'enableplayercontrols 1 1 1 1 1 1 1 1 1 1' into the console.

Long answer:
This issue is caused by the failure of a vault door opening animation to play. Most people report this happening with Vault 114, but there have been other vaults mentioned by people with this issue.

Here's what the game should do when working normally:
1. Disable VATS
2. Play several related door opening animations
3. Re-enable VATS

But, for some unknown reason, the script that handles those actions crases on the animation steps, and never executes the 'Re-enable VATS' step. This then leaves you without VATS, presumably for the remainder of the game.. (Although, I bet if you were able to successfully open a later Vault, you may get VATS back when the same script successfully completes.)

And, in case you are particularly curious, here are what all those '1's mean, per the help text of the 'enableplayercontrols' command:
[movement|fighting|pov|looking|sneaking|menu|activate|journal|vats|favorites]

Edit: I've gotten reports that there is also a 'forceenableplayercontrols' that takes the same 10 '1's. Please try that command if the normal 'enableplayercontrols' command does not work.

Yeah, I encountered her at first, then she tells me to drop by the office, but I fast traveled to other locations before I went to her Office, and now she isn't there. Tried waiting, but no luck so far.

Did you talk to her sister? No idea if that will help, just wondering.
 
I've used VATS maybe a dozen times, but boy are you missing out with the power armor, it's really satisfying clunking around in those things, I have 3 full suits, 2 partial that I'm collecting.

I think its just because so far i've not hit any brickwalls with any of the enemies. I've take on many things, died a few times but then tried different tactics etc etc. I might whack it on later for an hour or so see how the experience alters.

Where do I get more mods? I'm l 2 in gun nut, but I can't upgrade anything besides some basic mods.

What weapons are you trying to upgrade? Some have very limited upgrade capacity. Pipe guns have a million options. Likewise laser weapons, which concert freely between pistol and rifle.
