So what do you want to see in HALO 6?

  • Squad selection, and give each 'specialist abilities' like BLOPS 3 has.
  • More route options in campaign - increasing the ability to stealth path through, even (or especially, perhaps) if it means needing to bring the right team.
  • Mission selection - with future missions getting locked/unlocked depending on choices you made.

It's what people think but the numbers speak by themselves, COD still sell a lot because it's still the same formula in general, same for AC, Mario (Kart and all the rest) etc. Favorites Halo games from the players are still in general 1/2/3 overall. After I'm just saying :)

Not sure if you've noticed the latest AC numbers ...

More than one boss (m'dama should have been a boss fight) and a better story. The overarching story of 5 was pretty damn cool, but we spent most the time with Osiris who didn't develop a whole lot. Seven new Spartans was a bit much imo.

Exuberant Witness was the best written and most "halo" feeling addition to the game, Osiris and blue team were just... There

Gameplay is spot-on, though I wish war zone had another map or two at launch, and I wish I could somehow buy armor pieces directly as most all my req packs have contained the pieces I *didnt* want

MP is still being updated, but I feel like it's a strong foundation for splatoon esque updating, which has huge potential. My main issue lies with the story.

Also, I really liked the NPC chatting levels. They shouldn't be incorporated into the overall "level count" though. Make them part of a level, and skip able like cutscenes

Get rid of the Prometheans.

They are boring and their weapons are terrible. Playing Halo 5 reminded me why I stopped playing part 4. Prometheans bore me to tears
The Prometheans are massively improved from Halo 5 though, to the point where I actually didn't mind fighting them.

- less health
- obvious weak points with reasonable hitboxes
- clear audio and visual tells for attacks, different classes, and the weapons they're holding
- fewer annoying behaviors
- the new Soldiers are much better standard footsoldiers than the bullet spongey Knights in Halo 4

343 solved literally every major problem the Prometheans have in Halo 4, including their kind of underwhelming weapons, and the ratio of Promethean vs Covenant encounters. It's downright impressive that 343 so thoroughly fixed Halo 4 many issues.

I say this as someone who still thinks the Prometheans are absolutely intolerable in Halo 4's campaign.

Not sure if you've noticed the latest AC numbers ...
I know some direct sources and they are still pretty good apparently, not breaking a record today does not mean you don't sell anymore. The problem of AC is like COD there is one each year where one main Halo is every 3 years so there is a difference.

An actual Halo.
Get rid of the extensive EU references, keep the story as contained as possible.
Better playlist management.
Firefight, seriously did Firefight robbed someone at 343?

guys .. the next halo will only feature locke w/ osiris and the one after that will only feature cheif w/ blue team .. thats my prediction

Their emphasis on locke has to be greater than just halo 5. considering they did a whole mini-series just on him. they spent a lot of money/time to push locke in our face. heck more than
half of halo 5 was playing as locke.
you can almost see their motive.

plz 343i dont do this...

No, 343 finally did what Bungie wouldn't. They're starting to do justice to the Halo universe's potential by integrating some of the EU's most interesting ideas. And unlike Halo 4, Halo 5 adequately explains everything casual players need to know. The deep lore stuff is there for dedicated fans, without obscuring the basic plot.

I would prefer them going for a more subtle way when introducing the EU stuff, like the audio logs, I like those but they are definitely under-explored in 5.

I'd like the next halo to not be on the xbox one. Launch game for MS next system sounds a lot better.

considering the rumors of a 2018 xbox. maybe it could be true. juiced up hardware with dx12 wouldn't be much harder to code for would it? i dont think they will have the next xbox without win 10 in it.

to be honest, i already feel this gen is about over for some reason =/ like 2016 is the last hoorah for us. LOL

What's with the Promethean hate? They are a lot of fun to fight in Halo 5. Their weapons are the most fun to use and their variety of enemy types feels more interesting than the Covenant in Halo 5. Fighting Knights is so goddamn satisfying now, a huge improvement over Halo 4, and possibly one of my favorite enemy types out of the whole series now. They need more vehicles though, Vehicles are a big part of the Halo sandbox that is being ignored with them. 1 just really isn't enough.

Actually, now it feels like the Covenant enemies and sandbox have been pared back a bit too much by comparison. They need to return to a Halo 3 and halo CE philosophy of enemy and encounter design with the Covenant. There's just barely any differentiation between different ranked elites, besides health. Fighting a gold elite should be something special again, like they were in Halo CE, or like the Chieftains of a brute pack in Halo 3. The reworking of Hunters was really amazing, and it feels like the rest of the covenant enemies were just kind of ported up from Halo 4 with no thought.

Split-screen.

This. If I'm gonna buy at launch it needs to have campaign coop in splitscreen. Not buying two machines, two copies of the game and two Live subscriptions no matter how much they push in that direction. Then I'll just play other games.

And get rid of microtransactions completely. Fallout 4 and The Witcher 3 shows it can be done.

A Halo 1-3 era Master Chief. A Halo 1-3 era storyline.

I honestly think 4 and 5's storyline's are only grabbing the hardcore Halo lore fan's attention. The casual FPS player has no investment in this trilogy.

I sure hope so man. Graphics wise it's been a disappointment, Sony's online network sucks and so many under performing games on both systems. Halo looks so graphically underwhelming to me that I would take this gen out back and shoot it in the face if I could.

Regarding the story, I'd really like to see them go back to a more Halo CE type story. Have a mission go FUBAR and Master Chief and a handful of humans are stranded someplace and need to figure out how to survive and escape. While I'm glad that 343 has been more aware of the Halo EU (Bungie straight up ignored it a lot of the time), I think they've gone too far deep into it and need to go back to a more simple setup.

Less forerunner aesthetics. When I think of the campaign for 4 & 5 all I picture is plain silver buildings left and right. Wish we got more variety in the locations and aesthetics instead of having forerunner buildings everywhere.

In the interest of sparking some more discussion Halo's future as a franchise I'd like to discuss the October NPD sales figures for this game. It was revealed that the game marks a 70+% decline in debut sales over past with 935k units sold in the US (retail+bundles). Previous entries in the series managed sales of 3.3million during their NPD debuts (3, 4 and Reach). The closest in performance was ODST. For reference here are some posts from the NPD thread

NPD Insider said:
The best-selling title of the October 2015 U.S. Games Industry Report, Microsoft's Console Software SKU 'Halo 5: Guardians,' sold a combined total of 935K including all Bundle units.

Halo 5 : 1 week of tracking (includes bundles but not digital)
Halo 3 : 2 weeks of tracking with vast majority of Month 1 sales occurring during first week
others : 3 weeks of tracking with vast majority of Month 1 sales occurring during first week

Keep in mind that the drop in UK for Halo 5 was around 80% for week 2.

Ryng_Tolu said:
So, we have ( including bundle):

UK - 150,000
US - 935,000

UK+US - 1,085,000

I think US+UK is around 70% of WW market for XB1, or even more, so, i think 1.55 million for Halo 5 first week WW seem legit.

If we including digital, 1.7-1.75 million WW. Not more.

These numbers make Halo 5 the worst debut in the core Halo franchise (core = main entries excluding Halo CE rerelease, Halo Anniversary titles, MCC and Halo Wars). This is especially relevant given the "biggest Halo launch ever" PR that MS released which was incredibly misleading by not only referring to shipped figures but also including hardware (bundles & accessories) as well as Microtransactions (REQ packs).

As fans of this series what are y'all's thoughts on this? First impressions are obviously that MCC and possibly Halo 4 severely damaged the franchise but could there be some other causes that might have occurred to me? What bearing do you feel this will have on the future of the series?

Personally this makes me think future entries will be far more likely to release day and date on PC as well as console.

For multi player I would want split screen and every single bungie map remade and included at launch so people would have nothing to complain about. The gunplay in 5 is hands down the best. I actually feel like a spartan and not a slow moving turd shooting pew pews.

- Split-screen
- Campaign Theatre
- Better art direction, Halo 5 is convoluted as fuck
- 30fps campaign, 60fps multi.
- More Chief, less Locke
- Story that doesn't take itself too seriously.

I liked the NPC talking too SPOILER
especially on SangHelios
SPOILER, but I don't understand why it had to be it's own mission, would have been cool if the team was all of a sudden attacked and had to defend the base or something.

I first figured it was to make those encounters easily skippable for those replaying missions but it's not like those levels are particularly long.

I hope 343 doesn't abandon trying out little non-combat scenarios spread through the campaign. The ones in Halo 5 felt like a nice step-up from equipping your Pelican on the Infinity during Halo 4.

i didn't buy halo 4 on 360 and that was the right move honestly. I played it on my mcc collection and it was harder to get through some game that people truly hate such as ternimator on 360. There have only been a few games that I felt bad about buying, resitance 2, Smash bros (just don't like it, sorry) and GTA 4 (also, just don't like it) but most other games I have played I found some kind of enjoyment or something to like (rather it was on price or whatever)

I just felt it was hard to play the campaign honestly. Halo 4, ah...

I feel like I made a mistake to buy halo 5 because it's very host heavy (or ping or something) and it's hard to play in my current location.

Sprint and map design honestly drive me a bit batty and if I don't see big changes in videos of halo 6, I feel I just can't buy it like I did with Halo 4.

I am a gamer that has bought more than 200 actual retail 360 games and over 70 ps3 games and it feels crazy to me too that a halo game can feel so wrong to me.

Better developed/fleshed out characters. Halo 4 did great with Chief and Cortana but in 5 nothing with anybody was as strong.

MORE MASTER CHIEF.

Campaign theater mode

The story means nothing if these characters aren't people we give a damn for throughout. And Jesus, make the cutscenes longer if you have to, people who aren't interested in the story to begin with are just going to skip it anyways. Take the time to tell the story.

I dunno, I enjoyed playing the campaign, but the story left a lot to be desired.

Teammate AI that works.

No strong feelings on the story other than it wasn't accurately represented in the previews/trailers.

So I guess my next request would be a story worth caring about.

I want the campaign to feel more like online Warzone gameplay.

- larger, more open maps
- intense fights that build in intensity
- more cohesive/linear story
- more variety in how enemies approach the fight
- want it to actually feel like you're righting a war with hundreds of combatants, even if the battles are staggered.

also,
- water-based enemies/fights/battles
- req system implemented in campaign
- better AI

off the top of my head

More maps, more unique maps, more nature maps, maps with more limited lines of sight. They nailed the gameplay in multiplayer, but arena is lacking content-wise, even if the number looks decent on paper. There are 5 breakout maps all forge, like 8 or 9 standard arena maps 1 of which is forge, 1 looks like it should be forge (coliseum), 1 is a remake (Truth) with it's own variant, plus another map has a variant, and then the rest of the maps have very similar UNSC structures to them. So when it comes to new, non-forge, non remade/non-variant maps, we're left with almost nothing.

The maps are downright terrible

With what you are saying

Eden (city clutter)
Empire (it is eden!)
Rig- it is ok, but this should have been the only map out of these top 4, for sure. needs the area near camo just removed and re done though
Plaza- again, cluttered and too damn random, just meh
Truth- Even though it is ok, it only seems ok cause all the other maps are so bad. This map is decent but still not great with it's dark colors, and long stretched out paths
Coliseum - it's too strecthed out and needs too much damn clamber, walls are wide and it's just eh
Fathom- This one is mostly ok but it feels like the top ramp is a little too needy and needed a design change, also needs an art style chance
Regret- sigh, honestly.... it's much worse than truth while being similar. more drawn out, bigger and longer walls

As you were saying it's about sight points and all the maps fail on this

Basically, i can find a bit of fun on Rig, Truth and fathom and even these arent great.

Just so disappointed in this.

I'd like to see the campaign pull a bit from Dishonored 2 and let players decide who they want to play as (Osiris/Blue Team).
The gameplay and core abilities I wouldn't change, maybe focus on a new enemy type, new weapons, maybe find a way to work equipment back into things.
Firefight definitely needs a return
More maps for all multiplayer modes as well
Actual depth to the story and main plot would be nice.

Really they have most things solid to a core aside from the story and options/choices of modes/maps/how to play the game

Some feeling of exploration like in Halo CE when you first touched down on Halo and Silent Cartographer. I'd also like MS to hold off and release it the same day the next Xbox launches.

Retcon everything lol

The real precursor return to the galaxy to find out what happened to their halo rings, discovering that they were destroyed by human hand and the flood has been released.

They start rebuilding the rings to use them again, easily keeping the UNSC at bay, nobody knows what to do.

The UNSCs plan is to travel to their current homeworlds using their portal technology (re-engineered from a crashed ship) to find a weakness there that is useful in stopping them back home.

When they go through the portal they are followed by a flood ship that was in hiding all the time waiting for an opportunity for revenge on the precursors.

It's the start of an intergalactic war, time is running out, Precursors vs human/alliance vs flood. Somewhere in there is the true history of what the flood is and where they came from ....

also, splitscreen

Kill off you-know-who forever and move on from telling stories centred around you-know-who and no, I'm not talking about Master Chief.

Have Lock and Arbiter plus someone else return, but only as co-op buddies for Chief, DO NOT give us other characters to play as... unless we can pick to play as one of the four co-op buddies throughout the game, that's fine, but aside from that keep the storyline on Chief.

Wrap up this quite frankly substandard story and start a new one in Halo 7.

Can we have one game without the fucking Jackals? I hate them, they're so fucking annoying, they were annoying in Halo 1 and they've just gotten more annoying since.

Don't repeat a boss battle more than once unless it's taking down a Scarab.

NO CLIFFHANGERS!

No flood, people asking for them are out of their minds.

Try to make the prometheans fun to fight, the Brutes underwent major changes between Halo 2 and 3, so you are more than welcome to do something, anything, with the prometheans that makes them fun to fight.

I pretty much agree with all of this. I think there are some larger changes they can make in the future, but they need to finish the current story line before they do that.

1. Good boss fights. It can be done. The Metroid games have done it in first person. Halo can to. Shadow of Collossus would be a good influence too.

2. Let me play a section where I fly through space using thrusters. I've seen enough cutscenes with Chief and others jumping out of ships and maneuvering past ships and other debris. How do you set this up for gameplay without being pointless. Hmm. How about you have to deliver a bomb to an enemy ship. Classic Halo. The bomb has fallen out of your ship due to a direct hit. You must go catch it. You have multiple items to pick up as you zip through space. The detonator, The bomb casing, the actual nuke (fell out of the casing), and something to blow through the enemy ship, perhaps sticky grenades, and a weapon. Perhaps make this section 3rd person.

3. Bring back the flood. And make them scarier than ever. 343 managed to change the hunters just enough to make them actually somewhat frightening. Do the same with the flood. You have the tech to make great atmosphere.

4. Maybe let us play some flashback(s) as young chief. Maybe during Reach or any of his early missions.

5. Give me a strong sense a dread. A mission on earth or any other planet with a large human population being attacked by enemies. Chaos everywhere, people everywhere, running, wounded. Possibly add on side objectives like in this mission rescue hostages or escort a convoy of injured civilians.

6. Classic warthog run.

Just off the top of my head.
