You know what's funny? Of everything Star Fox has tried since the GameCube era (not counting 64 3D), the Bayonetta 2 cameo was by far the one that best captured the franchise's original essence. The controls, while faithful to the classic layout, felt smooth and responsive, and the gameplay nailed that fast-paced rail shooter feel. Even the Bayonetta elements — like Witch Time and Umbran Climax — were implemented surprisingly well. It's a shame it was just a single short section with limited visuals and enemy variety, because that brief moment clearly showed the direction Star Fox should've taken to evolve the formula.
