Has anyone else been playing almost entirely without VATS? The only time I actually use it is on flying enemies, which damn hard to hit manually. The main problem is that 75% of the perks and most legendary weapons are completely useless for me.

Conversation system/dialogue structure is largely under fire in this thread for being savagely dumbed down. Outcome based on selection is almost non-existent now, aside from some minor charisma checks to get more caps or info(so rare). You just kind of say hello, are given orders and follow-through...at least this has been my experience in 12 hours, which feels much more shallow than prior games.

Power armor is poorly explained. Just park it near a yellow rack at a base, and then quickly use the rack to edit. This will keep it locked into the rack. Otherwise it just stays where you abandoned, but highlighted on map.

you can leave it wherever you want as long as you take the fusion core out. I like to leave mine in the power armor racks though, because I'm obsessive like that

except for a few minor cases I can think of in some side quests, conversation choices dont affect anything other than the dialog you get back. You'll know if something requires charisma, and you can walk away to put on a charisma outfit or take a grape mentat to pass those checks

Thanks guys. That clears my doubts.

I really have no idea why they felt like they needed to have the game take place 200 years after the bombs.

It takes place in an entirely different part of the country from fallout 1/2 so there's no way they would even know what's going on over there.

The idea that 200 year old instant mashed potatoes, soda, and apples are edible or even would be readily available is crazy.

The idea that none of the trees would have grown back in 200 years is stupid.

200 years ago there were no buildings, roads, railroads, or anything but native americans in 75% of the area now known as the united states.

This is just such a stupid plot point and I cannot understand why they feel it's necessary to go so far away from the bombs but still be tied to the pre-war stuff.

I love the game but the creators of the original fallout had enough sense to be one or two generations removed from the war.

Basically anyone that says Bethesda is good at world building is a fucking liar. They making interesting little amusement parks that completely fall apart the second you give them more than a few moments of thought.

super conservative. i use the concrete punch whenever possible.
points in luck , intelligence , end and strength.
use lone wolf maxed out with dog. making my may to solar power perk.
level 3 scavenger. and lv8 luck.
now theres ammo everywhere. also, when i fight against something, i try to use a gun that is usually used by my enemy.
that way i almost always end up with more ammo than i came in with even when i use them liberally. also, i got a bit lucky with legendaries. 3 of the 4 i use are legendary. my lazer rifle 1 shots weak synths and they always drop like 7-10 cells minimum so it adds up to a lot if i kill 20-30 in a dungeon.
same goes for others. for the pistol ammo (1200) i dunno it drops and appears in chests like stupid. like 40 at a time

This guy. Thanks for the tips man!

quicksave before attempting. Doesn't everyone do this?

Pretty much. If it has Fallout in the title, SAVE SAVE SAVE.

I still have no idea what kind of combat I want to focus on. Everything looks so cool. Wish there was a way to respec.

Same here, luckily I still got time to refine my combat focus. I am still going to go with the flow for my first playthrough.

Back in
Sanctuary
(do I even need to spoil that anymore?), I kept hearing a strange noise from an animal.. I was unable to find it, until I wanted to take a screenshot of my character.

And lo' and behold:

Don't need to spoiler tag that :)

So, I'm level 40 now and I feel comfortable in saying I've seen 95% of the armor/clothing the game has the offer. There's not a lot of it, and most don't work with armor pieces.

This saddens me. You can basically get almost every single piece of clothing/armor within the first hour of the game.

Bethesda went a little overboard with ghouls and using them quite liberally.

Ghouls and Super Mutants. That's my main problem with the game right now, it's a bit immersion killing. But then again, we forgave CD Projekt for pretty much the same thing with drowners and other monsters.

I like the new perks system, think characters are greatly improved, and like the crafting system, but they should have thought a bit more where it would make sense to use certain enemies. New Vegas handled that pretty much perfectly. Well except for the re-occuring Monty Python-esque legion patrols that was sent after you.

Okay some questions: does the materials like steel and wood uses weight? Or can I disassemble everything I see without deal with overweight?

And where the fuck do I find crystal?

it does take weight, but you can dump everything in the workshop.

crystal is in stuff like magnifying glass I think. at a workshop, hit rb to tag materials you don't have -- then everything that contains that will have an icon indicating it contains what you're looking for. if you get the scrapper 2 perk, it will actually highlight everything in the world containing your tagged mats

Thanks guys. That clears my doubts.

take head the part about the fusion core, otherwise NPCs will climb into the armor

Random question...

I bought a PS4 the other day, made a PSN account and played 4-5 hours of Fallout, unlocking 5 or so Trophies.

Then I noticed I spelled my PSN wrong.

Is there any way I can play my Fallout 4 savefile on a new PSN? If I do that, will I miss out on my previously unlocked Trophies?

I'm thinking I gotta restart from scratch.

Oh man, (memory den spoilers)
wish I could listen to that radio broadcast during Kellogg's first memory in more detail. I love how it's talking about the NCR and Shady Sands.

finally found another Vault (Vault 95), hadnt seen one in ages, and proceeded to get MELTED by a assaultron O_o

cant wait to get to that level for the solar power perk,
walking in the sun heals you and removes radiation.
its the permanent damage that bothers me way more.
Same for me, the radiation from them annoys me since theyre the enemies i fight the most. I didnt knoe the solar perk could heal radiation. Going to see if its worth putting points in

Ended up out in the middle of nowhere, spotted some Brotherhood lads making an attack between some Super Mutants and some Gunners. Lasers were hitting the BoS ships from either side, they both exploded and fell out of the air, the wreckage created some cover for me and Nick to snipe the missile users on the building. Eventually I made it inside, I think it was actually an old Galaxy News Station, there was a ton of camera equipment and studio stuff inside. I ended up defeating a few named characters, I wouldn't be surprised if they were significantly related to a few quests, oh well. They're dead now.

They could have been better wit the illusion of choice

Giving more attention to SPECIAL would have helped

Not an easy commitment though.
its the last endurance perk.

i also picked the cannibal perk because it seems to have no negative impact whatsoever and ghouls are like a buffet,.
and its hilarious to eat the bad guy after youve defeated them.

On two different occasions now I've had my character fall through the game world just as he's about to fire at an enemy in V.A.T.S mode.

The game freezes for about 2 minutes and then I appear in a different (random) part of the map.

In both cases the bug occurred outside.

Don't worry if they were quest related in any important way they would have been unkillable.

Those you encountered might just have been bosses, seems like they made the effort of naming some of them in the game, even if they are just random dungeon bosses.

The world building is just fine.

If you just pretend they meant 40 years after instead of 200 years after its fine and I enjoy the world they built.

Maybe it's to explain the mutated animals and monsters? But I find it easier to swallow campy monsters than this timeline.

I am just pretending that it takes place 40 years later because it makes a lot more sense.

I think i'm just going to bite the bullet and rank up the Science & Gun Nut perks, I really need to upgrade some of these combat & assault rifles, not to mention my shotguns too. Before transitioning into full on Energy & Plasma weapons, so far I'm still using an upgraded Musket Laser thingy, it's solid.

I have a question about a certain character you are tracking...
Okay, so i just made it out of the institute for the first time, instead of 10, 60 years have passed since Kellogg stole Shaun. How does this make any sense? I read the file on Kellogg in the institute all it said that he was a cyborg with combat oriented gear fitted to him. No text about longer life span or anything. Plus i feel like it's bit of a cop out that he is wearing the same shit that he was wearing 60 years ago...

Anyone else have a Brahmin clogging up Hangman's Alley? AI pathing in general is shit. Always seeing NPCs stuck walking into objects or sitting in the ground, or just standing stock still for several in-game days.
