What's this about better skill trees too?
Oh, I'm so confused. I could have sworn I saw a post earlier in this thread (before mine) stating voice acting was out. I was just going off that.
I also didn't realize the scope of the update. I thought it was just a new ending and extra dungeon (I personally don't care for post game challenges) but faster battles and cleaned up OST are huge for me.
Hype back on.
You're complaining that they made the soundtrack better? The original symphonic recording was taken in a concert hall rather than a proper studio. What is there to complain about?

I was comparing between the two. I noticed that there was a non-orchestrated track in the 3DS version and jumped to conclusions. It was actually also in the PS2 version.
That sounds like an upgrade, then. Even though I see the merit in having a grander sound like with a big concert hall.

- Fully voiced in Japanese for the first time.
- Orchestrated soundtrack.
- Instant alchemy pot, with new recipes.
- Much faster battles than the original version's, including a new high speed mode.
- Visible enemies on the field.
- New story and scenarios.
- Geruda/Red and Morrie are now available as playable characters.
- New weapon types and skills.
- Visible equipment options for all characters.
- Brand new sprawling dungeons with new enemies and bosses, including a new post-game dungeon.
- New monsters, and new ranks in the battle arena.
- New photo mode, including the ability to compose photos with stamps and send them to other players. There's a whole new quest system centered around taking photos.
- Streetpass features using the photos from above.
My mistake. I meant more skills due to the added characters of course.
3DS's OST is fully orchestrated.
It would sound grander in a studio since you get a better recording.
SMG1/2 sound amazingly grand, all recorded in a studio.

3DS's OST is fully orchestrated.
New features added to DQ8 include:
3DS's OST is fully orchestrated.
That's not true. I had initially thought that they would just use the symphonic OST from the international PS2 version. That's why I was wondering the extent to this re-recording. It seems like the vast majority is orchestrated, though.
And I meant that the concert hall gives things a grander sound. I don't always prefer a studio.
You're confusing me.
The 3DS is using an orchestra score, same as the PS2 version, but a studio recording.
How's the music in VII? Is it midi synth, or is it orchestrated as well?
So the Japanese PS2 version didn't have voice acting?

As someone who's never played a dragon quest game which one of these should I get? I only plan on buying one so no whynotboth.jpeg.

VIII is the better game is nearly all aspects.
But really, if you're only gonna play one Dragon Quest, make it V (or IV).

How would I play those? Lime, best way to get my hands on them?

No voice acting and seemingly downgraded graphics.
It's amazing how misinformed people are about DQ8 3DS... how did that even happen?
Nope.
Didn't have VA or the Symphonic soundtrack. Both were added for the western release, as were some other things like menu improvements.
It's voiced in Japanese, but hasn't been confirmed that it's being voiced here.

"Instant alchemy pot"
Does this means you have the final upgrade from the beginning?
Then what do you get when you?beat the Lord of the Dragovians
Buy them for the 3/DS?
You could get the mobile ports but YMMV.
Or you could get them how everyone else got them for a decade-plus before they were re-released.
You're on the Internet, I'm really confused what's being asked here.
I'm throwing in my vote for 6. 4 and 5 have no class system and are a bit more linear.
Mix of unhinged mobile outrage bubbling over from the phone version and people downplaying this release since it isn't an HD remaster, I would guess.

The rewards for that are changed up a bit, including a choice to unlock the new bonus dungeon.

Forgive me if this video has already been linked, but it shows that battles in the JP version of DQVIII 3DS take at least twice as long to load when compared to the PS2 version.
People actually bought that version it seems lol.mobile phone version broke their brains.
