Anyone else strictly walking when in Power Armor and not in combat? I think my record is 25 hours with a single Fusion Core spent. Gotta make those suckers last...

Not to mention that Power Armor walking gait is badass as fuck. Strolling around Boston makes for a lengthy affair until you've explored a bit and got some fast travel spots going.

I don't use power armour at all :-/

Have you been to the Glowing Sea?

Let me tell you about the Glowing Sea. It is a fucking wasteland. It makes the rest of the map look like a goddamn paradise. It is permanently, heavily irradiated to the point where you take steady amounts of radiation through power armor while on Rad X. There is almost nothing left standing, leaving a vast open plain of monster infested green foggy nothing. It's an experience.

I think so. I just wandered south in a Power Armor I found and slowly entered this completely desolate wasteland, where all there is are ruins and monsters. Really haunting.
I'm just glad I was wearing Power Armor though, since a lvl 15 melee character doesn't have great chances against Deathclaws and Rad Scorpions otherwise.

Anyone? I doubt I'll ever get around to completing every location on the map but just the idea of it being locked out bugs me.

On a related note, do interiors ever refresh supplies and enemies?

If I were you, I'd give up on it showing "completed". I have had multiple locations refresh with enemies, and at least one location which showed as "completed" after I finished it later respawned enemies, and the "completed" text underneath it vanished.

I would totally build my char differently the second time...
Hacking and Lockpicking are completely worthless

Yeah I'm kinda feeling that way too. I'm playing on a midrange PC (760) right now and my roommate picked up the game on XB1. I hopped on after he was done to start a new character and make better use of my SPECIAL points but NOPE. Feels like a slideshow coming from my PC version. I really wish this game had a damn respec option or at least a one time use item or something!

I agree with hacking, but lockpicking can be used frequently and 3 ranks are enough.

Well I haven't found anything worthwhile
It's just the same trash that is littered around everywhere

I can only think of one place where lockpicking gave you something awesome... But I let Cait pick that lock to see if she could manage... and she did

totally unneeded perks

Can you elaborate on this? I think I understand how upgrading the lockpicking skill could be pointless as I have had no problems with any lock so far without upgrading but there are terminals I can't even attempt without an upgraded hacking skill.

Lock picking has helped me through entire quests later in the game.

It's the same with locks. It won't let you attempt if you aren't high enough level. I think he's just saying that the rewards behind the locks haven't been good enough to justify spending perks there. I think I feel the same.

I think their argument is from a mix-maxing angle, a lot of the times a pick or a hack only leads to the same type of loot you can get from other places - just in bigger numbers. Sometimes it only allows you to skip areas to make quick quests. But then, I want to explore anyways.

Personally, I love being able to do anything I come across so I love having access to everything I come across.

Keys and passwords are in the general area for quest essential progress, upgrading the perk only acts as a time saver

locked loot is almost always only ammo and some junk

Sentry and patrol terminals are Novice... like always

What do you mean? As far as I can tell there aren't any vertical posts (like the prefab walls-with-roofs have). If there is a pillar in there somewhere I'd love to know, myself...

I'm talking about the long wooden pillars used as the supports for the main structure in this picture:

Hazmat suit inside power armor. No fucks given. I took less radiation damage in an hour wandering around in there than a typical fight with a pack of ghouls.

Alright, that's good to know and will help me decide where to put my points from here on out.

So far I've been maxing out my vats skills, perception and agility first. I love vats and I did this with 3 and New Vegas as well. I can't wait to get to bloody mess.

Man the
Radiation
storms are something else, super cool.

Had no idea what the hell happened the first time one started, I actually panicked a bit haha. The sound is amazing as well.

Hmmm...I'm enjoying the game overall, logged quite a few hours now. I feel like the gameplay mechanics have been refined really well, so that there is a use to almost everything in the game, and it is enjoyable to just run around, get in random fights and explore ruins. The map is really dense, locations all feel pretty unique and don't repeat themselves.

However, my biggest gripe right now is that pretty much every quest boils down simplistically to the "Go kill everything in X location, then report back." The only real exception to this is the story quests, but even those generally have massive dungeons you have to trek through, repetitively killing stuff for an hour just to move ahead to the next plot point.

It gets a bit boring after awhile. I don't desire for every single quest in an RPG to terminate in me murdering every living thing in a dungeon. Overall, I'm not that attached to the Fallout series, so I will enjoy this game for what it is and put it down when I'm done with it, but I hope that they don't go this direction in their next TES entry.

12 hours in, no legendary weapons of any kind found, are they meant to be this rare?
Could someone point me to a place of interest? Not even sure what type of enemies drop them.

Can someone tell me if I would enjoy this game as a pure fps/explore game ? I've never played a fallout game before but the setting really intrigues me .

Is there a lot of inventory management etc ? For comparison I've put about 70 hrs into witcher 3 so I am not averse to inventory management etc but it's starting to wane on me in that game .

You probably could, yes.

As for inv management, well, you could probably get away with doing very little, however, weapons do really need modding to get the most out of them, which means you need junk, which means inv management.......

If you limited yourself to stock weapons and no base building, you could probably almost avoid the inv altogether.

There is a lot of inventory management but in my opinion it's easier to manage than the Witcher 3. Maybe because I've played the last two Fallout games so I know what is junk and what isn't.

I spent a point in lockpicking and it is useless!?

Most of my idiot savant comes from picking locks so I did it useful lol. I may not get hacking but I don't use companions...

ok, im starting to wonder where i will find a good, solid sniper rifle?
Im now lvl 20 and by now i have found a couple of solid combat shotguns, even some that where allready modded in the best possible way (for me). So im covered there.
But Im still running arround with that makeshift pipe rifle that I modded for long range shots.
When will i get a proper sniper rifle? I allready found some but these have all been a disapointment in damage, distance and precision (my pipe gun that i found at lvl3 is better in every aspect).

I wont go to the
radar station
before i find a good solid sniper that i can use to take the heads off of these supermutants that handed me my ass within seconds the first time i visited them.

Also regarding the [early BoS mission spoiler]
radar station
. I have been to the two earlier locations for that mission and had no problem (was arround lvl 12 then) but this 3rd location.. Am I just overthinking it or is this significantly harder then the previous 2? I came there and spotted several supermutants and thought, id better get the power armor. Came back with it and the minigun, came into range and within 3 seconds ive eaten several rockets and was dead before i could even make a move. Hence why I want to get a decent sniper rifle now.

What are good stats for a sniper rifle? Im getting worried that my 55dmg pipe gun sniper rifle is allready on the upper end of the dmg spectrum for snipers because all proper sniper rifles ive seen so far only had 40 dmg..

also, unrelated: Why do people think lockpicking and hacking is useless? How would you get into master locks and terminals without it? I dont understand. CAn someone explain?

Alright, just got to
The Combat Zone
and I'm not too sure if this is a bug or not, but
when I walked in, everyone wanted me dead
Is there a way to make it not do that?

I will try that, actually. I burnt about 30 Rad X last time I went through the area, and I still have shit to do there.

That place and the swamps are my favorite.

Mod a hunting rifle into a sniper rifle. Otherwise, try Goodneighbour. The weapon shop there is pretty good.

Legendary enemies drop them. Ive found a few just by exploring and doing quests. 20 or so hours in on normal

Deliverer, assassins revolutionary sword, assassins automatic pipe rifle, irradiated switchblade, Kellogg's pistol, mutant slayer's laser rifle, righteous authority, sentinel's knuckles,

Those are some of the ones I have with a star next to their name anyway.

Is there any way to quickly find lost companions on ps4? I'm trying to do some quest that requires nick valentine and I can't remember where I sent him for the life of me. Went to his office and no luck.

Also tried piper's office, the memory place, and every settlement that I have access to. Built a bell at all of them, rang it, and then searched the entire area within the green building boundaries.

Any other place I can check or tips?

I guess the damage you will get depends on perks and upgrades. I upgraded a bog standard hunting rifle to a .50 cal sniper and it was doing over 100 damage with 3 levels of the rifleman perk at 20% each.

You can build bells in the settlements - when you activate them, all the NPCs present gather around it. Best solution for finding lost companions short of console commands.

Not sure how strict I have to be with spoilers here, so I will spoiler it all just to be sure. It's not about the main story, it's about a random (?) event in the open world and contains a spoiler for a location:

Near the Old Gullet Sinkhole, I encountered a Vault 81 Resident being shot at by synths. I cannot have a conversation with him, even after saving him from the synths. He will keep running and run straight into a booby-trapped, mutant-infested camp and die. He does this every time. I've already done the Vault 81 questline. Does anybody know if it is possible to have him run back to Vault 81 at all? It's quite a long run... Was this simply an alternate way of getting into V81 ( letting him die and stealing his suit )?

Been playing 15 hours or so and i´m totally in love with this game so far, definitely a goty contender for me. Also loved the previous FO3/FNV and yes, I´m also missing the depth of the old dialogsystem. But I find the game to be so much fun, the exploration and gunplay especially.

Still don´t get the shitposting on every forum around, the hate is real for this game and it also feels like its coming from a lot of people who haven´t even tried it.

i think the crafting system combined with the trademark relatively interesting locations really sells it. I love exploring in this game and the fact that I might get some actual useful stuff instead of bottlecaps x 40000 is really compelling.

Although I wish I could Iron Man my power armour to me. That'd be great

By the way firefights got at least 3 times better once I learned about the lean from cover system. That's so goddamn useful.

Probably my favorite area in the game so far. It's so different from anywhere else.
