Assassin's Creed Syndicate PC Performance Thread

I'm running 2 x 980s in Sli with 16gb of RAM and a 6600k running at stock and getting around 55fps in the early London levels with settings on the step below ultra.

It looks great but I'm excited about what future patches could do.

Edit:

On newest drivers. Less than 10 mins in, graphical artifacting everywhere, geometry not showing up which has me climbing on invisible shit. I was running around an area for 5 minutes trying to figure out how to get past a gate as all the buildings have hooks towards the top preventing me from climbing them. Turns out what I needed to climb to get over the gate was invisible and I couldn't see it. Framerate is all over the place with shadows and a few settings turned down. 27 mins played. I've requested a refund and will just let this sit for a while and maybe pick it up down the road. Back to Fallout 4.

Ive had nothing like that happen in my game and those issues sound suspiciously like GFX card issues.

Assuming you're running the latest drivers have you restarted your PC and reset and OCs on the card?

i was checking Andy's performance guide and i have to say the visual difference on environmental quality is incredibly tiny in this game, in case anything is looking for a few frames you can turn that down from ultra to very high

ultra

only a few flowers and bushes missing from ultra to high, something that's barely noticeable to be honest unless you have the images side by side like you have here

I heard the graphics glitches like invisible buildings and objects is caused by MFAA in the Nvidia Control Panel. Disabling it should fix it.

No OC's on my card/spu at all. Computer was restarted. It's the only game that's given me issues. Card runs everything else at 1440p perfectly. Not sure what my issue is, but I'm not too disturbed as Steam refunds gave me a little relief. Artifacting is usually a sign of GPU problems, but I don't think it's the case here.

Try the MFAA trick mentioned above.

Give the game a chance. It's really feels like a return to the playful AC2 as opposed to the 'why so serious' stuff of recent years.

To be honest, the series was on a short leash after the last game. I essentially quit after that and immediately requested a refund. I'll pick it up down the road. Thanks for the suggestions though.

Xeon E3 1231v3
16 GB RAM
MSI 980ti @ 1450 MHz

Targeting 60 FPS

Can't really decide which settings i should run :-)

Either 1440p, environment ultra, Hbao+, shadows high, FXAA
Or 1080p, environment ultra, Hbao+ultra, pcss, FXAA
Both give me the desired framerate. What would you suggest?

I'm running the 1440p setting now.

I'm not happy with FXAA, but can't use Txaa because it renders weird white outlines around the chars. I tried to inject SMAA via Reshade but game crashes on startup with Reshade...

Got a stable 60 @ 1080p with a mix between Very High and Medium (for shadows) and 2xTXAA...

...in the prologue.

London is merciless. Stuttering and drops to 55 all the time. Bummer. Got the latest nVidia driver as well.

TXAA is very demanding, you should not be surprised.

Performance is a little worse than Unity here.
280x / i5 4650k @ 4.0

Had to lock @30 fps
1440p everything on High and HBAO+
I hate 30 fps

2x TXAA should run a tad slower than 2x MSAA. I wouldn't call that very demanding.
I would, when it robs you of 15 frames. But it does significantly reduce shader aliasing which plagues this game. Unfortunately for me the blur is just too much, texture detail is too greatly affected for my liking.

1 GB update on uplay,, and where the hell is the patch notes ?..
Nothing on my end, are you sure this is not the day one patch ?

Really good first impression for me so far. Seems like a damn quality port.

Just dropped environment and shadows down to High and kept everything else up. Looks great and runs between 40 ~ 70 FPS for me so far. The fluctuation doesn't bother me at all thanks to G-Sync.

Performance aside, this definitely seems like a much better *game* than recent Assassin Creeds, especially Unity.

Really? How so ?
You don't "feel" the fluctuation as much ?

Yeah, that's where G-Sync shines, really. No tearing or stuttering of the image even with fluctuating frame rates.

It doesn't really work below 30 fps, though.

Have people determined which settings are the most taxing? I generally get 60 fps except for some hitching whenever I turn the camera around.

Is there also a Steam code in the retail version or just uplay?

I'm tempted to get this, but nor sure how my 680 will handle it.

Just Uplay. Your 680 will run this relatively well with a mix of medium and high settings, as long as it's the 4gb version.

I seem to get a lot of hitching when panning the camera, but for the most part the game is rock solid. I have PCSS on and very high graphic settings, and had to set V-Sync On because screen tearing was really bad.

Game doesn't seem to be resource intensive - I'm running a i7 950 with slight overclock to 3.2GHz and looking at the load, it's hovering around 50%. The VRAM bar is a nice touch - turning on PCSS, and Very High preset, and I'm hitting just over 3GB VRAM used out of 8GB on my R9 390.

I'm playing 1080p BPM on my LG 55LW6500. Game is beautiful. Funny, I'm switching between Brotherhood and Syndicate and can't believe the engine has come so far. Looks really great, the shadows and shading is smooth. For those playing BPM, make sure your color range is set appropriately. I'm playing on full range with enhanced whites.

15 frames out of a 100? That's not demanding. Also - I find it somewhat funny that we're even talking about how demanding MSAA 2x is. Different sorts of post AA really skewed the picture there.

Ok played the game for a few hours with these settings (stock 4670K+MSI GTX 970+8GB RAM 2133MHZ, game is installed on a normal HDD)

Environment Very high
Texture Ultra
HBAO+ Ultra
Shadows High
FXAA

Performances are pretty good, i get 60fps with rare, minor dips in the mid 50s when shit gets real but nothing too distracting and i don't even have the latest drivers. Game is insanely beautiful, i'd say it probably has the best graphics around or at least the best graphics i've ever seen (didn't play Battlefront yet). I know they "changed" some things compared to Unity, but changing the lighting to have a dynamic cycle and cutting the crowds on the street (which were necessary in the French revolution setting but definitely aren't needed or missed here) to improve performances aren't exactly things that would make me scream "downgrade!". Also, thanks to new improved techniques like PCSS Ultra and HBAO+ Ultra, ambient occlusion and shadows are also better in this game compared to its predecessor. Animations don't seem to be as "buggy" and the level of detail seems more consistent, iirc Unity had insane graphics in some areas while other looked "bad" in comparison, and i haven't noticed this in ACS yet. All things considered, i wouldn't say Ubisoft downgraded anything, it's more like they "rebalanced" the available resources to achieve a few things (day-night cycle, better performances and more consistent level of detail).

Game is also pretty fun and the two main characters are very likeable, especially Evie. Might very well be the best "classic" AC game since II (IV is my favorite but that's mostly because of the caraibic open world).

1 GB update on uplay,, and where the hell is the patch notes ?..
When? I didn't get this.

Anyone else getting some random pop in issues?

Yeah, with flags. Like I'll see them at a distance, get closer, they'll disappear, and then pop in when I'm closer, very jarring. Guessing it's a low quality model from distance being replaced but it's taking forever.

i just did the
turret mission
on the train and the pop in from the tracks was super jarring.

Is there anyway to tone down the brightness of the lighting? Looks like straight up bloom at times :/

Well... it doesnt run great on my PC, haha. But it is getting pretty old, and the GPU I got more recently wasnt worth the money.

i7 920 at 2.67ghz
6gb RAM
GTX 750 ti

I should probably try overclocking my CPU, its been a god damn beast for me all these years, I love it.

I should stick a couple more gigs of RAM in there, but Its like 1377 or something, which I think was the best my motherboard could take at the time (2008 or 9, I forget when I built this thing), so I think it was harder to match, so I would need to replace it all.

I think my biggest issue is this stupid 750ti, I upgraded from a 260 or 275 or 280 or something, I cant remember what I used to have, but it was amazing for years. This has basically been terrrible since I got it, haha. I should just put the money towards a real GPU.

Tried capping with Rivatuner at 30 and cranking up the settings just for shits and giggles.

This game looks awful at 30 FPS. Like some games can make it work, but found it very distracting here.

Probably has high amounts of input lag like most 30fps capped games on PC.

My whites are really overblown - e.g. the menu screen where it shows Evie or Jacob's face. In the game it's not unplayable, but it keeps making me think something is not set quite right - though every other game is fine of course.

Also in the graphics menus even low preset says it is using more than 4GB of VRAM - really odd. Maybe an SLI quirk., Performance is 50-60 fps and totally acceptable and playable, and am loving the game!

970 SLI
4790K

Any way to edit the day/night cycle? I want to play this during night time the most, as that echoes the Victorian London setting better for me.

Friend of mine got the game when he bought a 970, but the game refuses to start.
He gets the splash-screen and then nothing. Tried validating the files and restarting the computer, not running fraps or similar.
Any thoughts?

Did some 60fps testing on my GTX 970 1480mhz i7 930 3.8ghz 6gb of RAM 1600mhz

Setting shadows to high, with HBAO+, FXAA, Ultra environment and textures at highest setting gives good 60fps performance at 1920x1080. The areas I tried are Westminster and White Chapel, fighting lots of enemies and doing the Big Ben fuse mission. Most times it's 65fps-70+ and lowest points are 60.5-61fps. Looked very good still and only living without PCSS if you like 60fps gameplay

Setting HBAO to ultra and using PCSS drops the frames to around 40-60fps with PCSS shadows being the killer.

I'll often play at much higher resolutions, downsample and cap at 30fps

edit. forgot to mention, thanks to Andy B for a great guide at Nvidia, you can see the cost of various settings there.

It doesn't seem to have very good motion blur. Like Arkham Knight (lol) works fine at 30fps because it has a really good motion blur implementation but both this and Unity seem to lack it.
