Fallout 4 PC Performance Thread

This game runs like garbage on my i7 4790, 8gb ram, 280x....

I have a similar setup:
Try these settings:

N9eF4QV.png

Have you set the file to read-only? If you don't then the game will keep changing it.
I verified after quitting the game that those settings were still the same -- borderless 0, full screen 1. Do you mean the game changes them for you? That's weird mine would be have differently.

Can I get some help with this please.
I get like this weird micro stutter that I have noticed a lot with games, such as Metro 2033.
It doesn't matter if I play with Controller or Mouse.
Basically if I strafe around an object (Run sideways, and move the mouse or joystick to stay aiming at the object), I notice this like weird sort of stutter, like the object is being redrawn to the screen or something. It is really jarring, and I notice it basically anytime I rotate the mouse or whatever.

I heard this can be down to Vsync in some cases. Anybody have a similar experience and know how to fix it?

Havent been paying too much attention but is it normal for this game to run like stuttering dog shit at points?

Havent played much, just hit Corvega and went in to clean out Raiders, and since I've been there every few minutes the game just bogs down and I get these intermittent pauses of a second or two then the frame rate comes back to normal. It's not as though the frame rate is dropping, its like a background load or something happening.

I'm at a steady 60 with everything maxed aside from some odd stuttering in some areas. Anyone else seeing that? Any fixes?

Yes, there are parts of the game that run llke shit. The whole thread is talking about it. The whole thread is tweaking it. Try this:

http://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/332/?

http://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/m...4/ajax/moddescription/?id=1822&preview=&pUp=1

You are going to see performance degradation in some parts of the game not matter how much you dial down the settings or how awesome your hardware is. It's best just to optimize the game so it runs good in the other 95% of the time it's not running like shit.

I read that the console command RevertWorld will fix the bug issue I'm having, but they say it may have hurt the game. No specifics were really given.

Does anyone know whether it's wise to try RevertWorld?

Edit: Also, are there any details about the beta patch that's supposed to be released?

If I don't set my file to read-only after editing the values for borderless and full screen it will change them back when I start the game. So it's behaving differently for you if it's not touching those values. This game is weird!

Hey guys, this has probably been answered but I just got the game today and wanted to know- when u run the game in full screen mode, it stutters like CRAZY (fps still shows 60). When I switch to borderless window it doesn't stutter anymore (max settings on both options)

Is this a known issue?

Yes, every single page in this thread mentions it. Hell the first 20 were the best way to deal with it.

some of us get stuttering regardless of full screen w/vsync on or borderless windowed with vsync off (and framerate capped).

I can hit a solid 60fps but no matter what when I start to strafe or run I notice the stuttering.

I saw mention that someone said the ifpsclamp=61 works?

Where the usual "Ifpsclamp=60" that people tried that was bugging the game by not allowing you to open the vault doors, setting it to 61 supposedly fixes it.

Anyone tried that or notice anything weird afterwards?

Hmmm!

Downloading now. EDIT: zero change to frame drops at Swan's Pond (everything at Ultra/Med god rays). I'm assuming it'll be the same everywhere but I can't test it right now. Oh well, back to the shadow mod....

Have y'all been getting really bad stuttering in downtown Boston? Area around Financial District and Goodneighbor? I'm getting rock solid 60 frames everywhere except in that area, it's weird.

No change to the 980gtx specific hesitation bug either.

I THINK the beta patch helped with my Gsync issues. I'd get some strange judder with it before, even if it was only dipping 60ish from my 72 cap. Usually pretty unnoticeable in most games until around 45 FPS for me but seemed like any change at all was jarring in F04. Just played in a heavy area (Sangus Ironworks) and it felt a lot better to me than it has before.

Or maybe it's just placebo. Will test more tonight.

man this game fluctuates between 40-60 for me too much, is there a way for me to lock it to 30fps? I tried looking through the thread but there's so many pages of people trying to unlock vsync and capping it with other programs

Anyone have a scope bug. Sometimes when I aim down scope or sight and pop out my character has moved forward and/or clipped into something.

Haven't tried 61 to see if it fixes the Vault doors glitch, but it doesn't run as smoothly as with it at 60. After 30 hours I have only had to delete the FPSClamp tweak once to get into a vault, applied it right back afterwards. Nothing else I do can get a perfectly smooth 60fps like clamp can. Haven't noticed any other oddities using this tweak, but also haven't been abusing it by trying to speed things up or slow things down, which caused all sorts of issues in NV.

Seems like the beta patch improved performance a bit?

I gained some FPS in one of the areas I had issues with high shadow distance setting, I haven't done anything to my computer since the last time I played, or messed with ini settings, so I'm guessing it's the patch. Could be wrong though, as I haven't actually played beyond testing that area.

I have an amd card, will Riva tuner work?

Doesn't AMD have an equivalent? Like double vsync or something it's called?

I find a combination of 1/2 refresh rate vsync and rivatuner is sometimes smoother than one or the other.

With both on MSI Afterburner says I'm getting a constant 33.3 ms frametime while it fluctuates or stutters otherwise

To the reports of this game benefiting from faster RAM, can someone tell me if I'm correct on the following concerning gaming?

I have a 1155/P67 board that supports stock up to 1600 DDR3. I'm currently running 1600 CAS 9 memory (and 2500k overclocked to 4.2 - this is a ~2012 build. Though I just picked up an R9 390).

I could tinker with getting it overclocked to 2133, but I haven't had much luck.

Even if I did, I'd have to loosen the timing to 10 or 11.

If I picked up some DDR3 1600 CAS 7 (7 / 1600 = 0.004375) memory, would I be running as well as someone running DDR3 2133 CAS 9 (0.004219)? Or does bandwidth play more of a role for something like this?

Thanks

"Best solution"

For me, forcing vsync off in NvCP and playing in borderless window with Rivatuner 60fps cap solved the stuttering for me.

The game still performs like shit in certain spots though, with random fps drops down into the 40s, so it doesn't solve that.

As we all know I think the way the engine handles the shadow distance is bizarre and needs to be patched.

I'm running the game on a 4670k with 8gb of ram and a 970. and the game eats up about 60 to 90% of my cpu. anyone else getting that or is this normal?

Ayyyy LMAO..... All ultra except god rays on high and shadow distance on medium @1080p.

Is my GPU broken?

Probably not... Or maybe?

Where is that in the game specifically, and what's your setup?

I've got a 980 Ti/4770k (man, I really wish they'd allow setup sigs or something; I hate having to list my specs almost every post, or ask others for theirs). I'll take a look in the same spot and post my results.

Nah, it does that in the same area for me also Corvega plant is really bad. Pretty common issue. The Shadow Boost mod helped out for me quite a bit. Some people are having stutter issues with it. But its worth a shot. Hopefully a proper fix will come soon.

Edit: 780ti/FX-8320 @4.5ghz running the same settings as you but with the shadow boost mod.

Anyone know how to get better performance with a GTX 660M? The game slows down a lot indoors for some reason compared to the outside. I saw someone else on this thread with a similar setup to mine get about 40ish FPS, no idea how that is even possible. I have the game on Medium right now, except godrays are off, and did the iPresentInterval=0 tweak too. Had it on Low before and it looked terrible and played just as well as it does on Medium (i.e. not that well, though perfectly playable). Waiting on funds so I can get a new proper gaming desktop.

4790+r9 390+16gb RAM 1600mhz
I found a little alcove downtown that was three walls and a bridge overtop that took my 980ti rig down momentarily to 26 fps. ;)
This fucking game.

Anyone have this issue or know of a fix?

There's no mod to fix spousal abuse. The change has to come from within.

Sorry, I have no idea.

-------------------------------
I'll say I've seen about 5-10 fps gain from the Shadow boost mod off the Nexus. Glad someone here linked that.

Is your monitor a 120Hz or a 144Hz monitor?

Mine is a 144hz G sync and capping to 60 helped performance big time.

Wtf could sware I asked this but I dont see my post. If one wanted to improve performance what would be the first setting you guys would turn off? Im only doing settlement building now and with the build limit removed and shit starts to get really big it affects performance. And at this point im loving building so much I dont mind bumping aome settings down for it. God rays would be the first obvious thing I guess?
