Captain America: Civil War Trailer #1 Debut

I thought they already established a workable alternative for the registration with the discussion of the growing presence of people with superhuman capabilities in the last Cap movie and also in what they're doing with Agents of SHIELD. They still want to track all these potential emerging "threats" regardless of whether they use a secret identity or not.
Yep, the registration isn't just to reveal identities, it's to keep these potential threats in check and make them stand down if given an order.

I can't believe how many people don't know how strong Cap and Bucky. Them going at it with Ironman is the strangest thing to find issue with.

Lol at you thinking that that is just a Walking Dead trope.

it isn't, but Walking dead is probably the most blatant about it. "hey, a new black guy. i wonder if...*30 minutes later*...yup"

edit: I'm about a season and a half behind things on that show, so the comment isn't meant to refer to anything recent.

That would be a bad decision. Marvel needs to just go with Steve Rogers dying, Bucky taking over the role of Cap, and Rogers being brought back (because he wasn't really dead or infinity gem) in time to die to Thanos.

Rogers dying and Stark surviving would be truly truly awful.

Captain America: The Winter Soldier beat my expectations. I'm lukewarm on most of the Marvel movies, even The Avengers, but something about Cap 2 just hit the spot.

I guess I liked the action and the more "contained" scope of the movie.

Civil War looks like it'll be in the same ballpark. I'm actually excited for a new Marvel movie, for once!

He's definitely not "peak human" like 616 Cap. There's no real issue with that. He's a bit more competitive with someone like Spider-Man.

616 Cap isn't "peak human" either. There have been many long threads on this one.
Short story is that the old 80s handbooks weren't any more accurate than the 90s trading cards. The comics portrayed cap as clearly superhuman.

Holding down helicopters from launching might be a bit of a stretch though, even for him.

The thing I loved about Winter Soldier is that, even though I knew that Cap wasn't going to die, it still felt like that possibility was there.

Even if he was destined to get out of it alive, it still hurts to see him get punched the fuck up by his best bro

"Tension" does not require the hero to die in every movie, will never understand why death is always a requirement for some people to say the movie has real stakes

The smaller scope was always what made Winter Soldier the best of the Marvel movies. Okay the amazing action too. And the feeling of real stakes for our protags.

This shit has me so hyped. Black Panther looks amazing. I for one actually loved his running scene. Make his power evident right away in the trailer. This dude is not to be trifled with.

Disappointing no Spidey but in reality if they skip showing him so we all see him at the same time in the movie would be so much better no matter how much my inner fanboy cries

I don't think it's so much that someone has to die in order for tension, but that there's been so much "punched the fuck up" in these Marvel movies that it loses it's sense of tension. Not to say it can't be done by a proper writer/director but so far, to me at least, the sense of real danger has lessened for a lot of these films

Yeah, that complaint has never made much sense to me.

I'm just greedy. Being mad at your bro and getting in a scrap doesn't do much for me story wise.

Really excited for this - probably my most hyped upcoming movie. I was kinda surprised how much the trailer focused on Bucky and not the whole registration act plot, but honestly I think the Bucky motivation is a lot easier to understand and more relatable to audiences watching the trailer.

Also, I'm wondering if Marvel might hold back on emphasizing the registration plot point in the run-up to the movie... it's kind of a far-flung connection, but when you have Donald Trump spouting off about registering Muslims nationwide, having a movie where two superheroes debate the merits of a national registry might give it a bit more (unintended) political relevance than the marketing department might be comfortable with.

Not that the movie would shy away from political undertones - one reason I liked the Winter Soldier was that it was willing to go beyond standard superhero action to bring up issues with pre-emptive first strikes and the balance between security vs. freedom, and I hope this movie is able to do the same.

Looks solid. Was hoping we'd see Vision, but we got some Wanda so I'm satisfied. And General Thaddeus "Motherfucking Thunderbolt" Ross! Goddamn, never thought I'd see the day.

And yeah, #TeamStark here. Bucky ain't shit.

Actually...that may just be how Tony shows affection. Hell, he treats Happy and Pepper the same. Maybe he always thought he and Steve were pals?

Makes it even sadder.

Honestly, I'm getting the same vibe. Does the guy have any legitimate friends? Most of them (Happy, Pepper, Stane) are employees, and Stane betrayed him. SHIELD and the Avengers are coworkers at best. It's pretty much just Rhodey - and it feels like Rhodey is just tolerating him half the time. Stark is good with machines but awful with people. Guys like Cap and Banner and Coulson are the closest things to actual relationships he has.

He's constantly fucking up, trying to fix the problem, fucking up harder, and alienating everyone around him in the process. It's tragic, really, and this would be the movie to explore it... if they bother to.

"Hey! Me from 6 years ago! There's going to be a Civil War movie! It got Black Panther in it! Captain America will be your favorite Avenger! You're going to just love The Falcon!"

"Yeah right, future me. Next you'll tell me Ant-Man will get a movie and it'll be fantastic."

... We live in enlightened times, my friends.

Awesome. No clue how the dude that Cap'n is helping is though [Oh, it's The Winter Soldier dude. Okay. Forgot what he looked like.]. That role would have gone to Taylor Kitsch if this were a few years ago.. poor Riggins. :(

No because he's an awful human being.

Holy shit that looks good. And I'm from the camp that thought Winter Soldier was very good, but not OMFG amazing.

My excitement levels for this movie were pretty level, but this trailer kicked them up a notch for sure. That Bucky/Cap/Iron Man tag team was O_O

What made you disinterested recently about them?
Age of Ultron being so blah.
Ant-Man being fun but ultimately forgettable.
Guardians of the Galaxy being kinda boring on what is my third time watching it after a long break from the last rewatch.

I also rewatched Spider-Man 2 and realised how much I enjoyed it compared to MCU films save The Winter Soldier.

It's not just about the punching - Bucky Barnes is Captain America's greatest failure, in death and his rebirth. Steve couldn't save his friend and countless atrocities were committed as a direct result. After all that he finally gets the chance to rescue Bucky and he still fails. Winter Soldier ends with Captain America failing at his most important personal objective even if they did stop Hydra. But I feel like some people won't be happy here unless Civil War ends with Cap's bullet riddled corpse - as if that's what would make it a great movie.
