Fallout 4 PC Performance Thread

Any one else having a problem of the map on the pip boy menu not working properly with the 360 pad? I cannot scroll around right or quick travel while using a pad.

When you take out their legs they just stay in one place on the ground. I haven't seen any crawling around in my own experience.

Anyone feel like they're getting stuttering even though the framerate is steady? It's been bugging me for a while now. Locking the framerate to 59 instead of 60 seems to be helping but it's still there. I can't seem to pinpoint where it stutters either, seems to be either random or at the silliest of places.

I swear I've seen legless ghouls crawl towards me before.

Got an odd HUD corruption glitch. Happened after a quest for
the Institute specifically the battle of Bunker Hill

My quest marker and sections of my compass will randomly spazz out and get this corrupted look to it with blocks of it disappearing and reappearing as it moves. The problem persists even after fast traveling somewhere else, restarting the game, and restarting the PC itself. Whenever I load that save it's there other saves are unaffected.

I can confirm I have as well. There's also a robot enemy that does that. Only does it if their arms are still attached.

Does the HUD display correctly if you crouch?

Thats great to hear but a vid would help seal the ease but there's no vid I can find >.<

Framerate still tanks for me in towns. I get 60fps literally everywhere else. Even when im outside of a town or settlement, when i look at it the fps drops to like 20.

Running everything maxed @1080p

FX 8350 stock
R9 290
8gb 1333mhz ram.

Game is installed on a 7200rpm hdd.

Running latest version of the game and the latest Crimson drivers on Windows 10.

Edit: Yes, I've turned down godrays.

I'm now starting to have an interesting issue. The game will freeze for a couple of seconds in both interiors and exteriors (micro freezes). It does this even on the lowest settings. It's becoming very apparent after many hours of game, in which I'm at 39 hours of playtime. Does anyone know how to fix this? Could it be a RAM issue? Mine is clocked at 1600.

Specs:

GTX 970
8gb of RAM
i5 3570k
Installed on an 250gb SSD
Windows 10

another setting would be shadow distance. you'll get a huge FPS boost by turning that to medium but then you need to put up with shadows rendering right infront of you. you can use the config tool to adjust the settings or play about with .ini files manually if you're comfortable doing that. there is also another mod that dynamically adjusts shadows based on a target framerate.

your RAM/storage might be causing bother too! usually ram doesn't affect games but FO4 benefits from faster RAM. ssd will bring improvements in general but again FO4 seems to be better on SSD beyond just loading times.

i have an i5-4590/16GB 1600mhz/R9 290 4GB (OC'd ~10%) and an SSD. At 1080p I have textures on HIGH and everything else on MEDIUM. god rays off. sliders maxed. object distance/fade HIGH. TAA on. AF shouldn't really matter. screen space reflections/motion blur off. with those settings I get drops as low ~45fps with the Crimson drivers. I have my fps capped to 50fps. I could just keep it at 60fps but i wanted to decrease severity of fps drops.

I on high settings I was getting huge drops as low as 20fps in areas around Goodneighbor. Now I'm getting well into 50fps. Diamond City up in the stands/mayor's office looking down is when I get drops. There is drops here and there during gameplay around the city (not just DC) but it's not too bad. A lot better than what I had before.

Dropping down to medium sucks but I wouldn't say there is a huge difference. God Rays off and dropping shadow distance to medium cause the biggest visual changes. You get used to no god rays and again if you adjust the shadow distance via mod then you can find a balance between medium/high settings.

Anyone else get noticeable FPS drops in the Institute? When talking to Father for the first time, it drops to about 45fps, even though there's not much in view. Seems like the area behind him is a resource hog.

Just a warning on the Crimson drivers. They caused my indoor FPS to tank in certain places where it didn't before. Spent hours trying to fix until I searched for Fallout 4 Crimson issues and others reported the same issue. Rolling back to the previous beta driver fixed it for them... and me as well. Just a heads up!

.

Yes, absolutely. Afterburner will say 60fps and even 16 ms frame times, but it still doesn't feel right.

I almost feel like the game is built/optimized for 30fps. Its hard to explain, but we've seen other games recently that have clear indicators of a 30fps target.

I don't know, maybe. It seems smooth overall but every once in a while I sort of pick up on something...

One thing that definitely bothers me is the microstutter-like effect when you sprint. IIRC both Skyrim and the mod in New Vegas had this same issue. Its like the terrain or something at the engine level was never designed to be sprinted over so it looks like the camera bounces with every single pebble you pass over. Annoying as hell but its like whatever at this point.

that little radar/compas/direction thingi is broken. I think since the last amd update.
the little markers it shows are kinda bugged.

anyone know about that?
got a fix?

I haven't had any issues with this game until now. For some reason when I launch the game , my screen doesn't detect an output source. All other games work fine, and nothing has changed to my configs since yesterday. Did a patch roll out recently?

Guys, I'm new with GSync and I'm not figuring out how to turn it on.

1. Set Gsync to work in Desktop and Windowed games
2. Set Fallout 4 to Borderless Windowed
3. Set iPresentInterval=0
4. Limit Rivatunner to 75 fps in Fallout 4

And it should be on right? Is there something else I need to do?

Why won't the game let me lock the fps again? I wanna lock it again because the game is fucked when Im using terminals, but no matter what I do I can't seem to lock the fps again?

have any idea?

That's pretty much it, yeah. Gsync just works automatically. I'm running the game fullscreen, without Rivatuner, but yeah, I just turned on Gsync in all the NVidia panels and turned off Vsync in FO4 with the iPresentInterval=0. My system can't actually run the game at much higher than 60 even in good spots, so I'm not worried about having to cap the framerate for any of the lockpicking or hacking or whatever people with better systems are having trouble with.. hehe.

Fuck, how are so few people complaining about the loading times? They single-handedly ruin this whole game. Never needed an SSD, not for Witcher 3 where loading times basically don't exist, not for GTA V or anything not related to games. What the fuck have they done? There are loading times for even just small rooms (surgeon in Diamond City, for example). I'm mad because I think I could love this game if it wasn't for this and I bet I already wasted like two hours of my life just on the loading screens.

Also, I can see how textures of walls and objects like cars are building up right in front of me. Is this "normal"? Any fix?

So I've been having some issues w/ the resolution on Fallout 4 and I've changed my .ini setting as follows:

bTopMostWindow=0 bMaximizeWindow=1 bBorderless=1 bFull Screen=0 iSize H=1080 iSize W=1920

. However when I run the game that way I get a screen that looks like this: http://postimg.org/image/gm1ahz7sf/

My screen resolution is 1600x1900 and I've tried adjusting the height and width accordingly but I still get the same sort of sized screen.

Note sure what to do at this point? Frustrating isn't the word!

I'm still kind of amazed that such a huge Western PC release locks so many of its systems to your framerate. You typically only see Japanese console developers doing it since they never expected the game to run at a higher framerate.

I'd complain about it but Bethesda will Bethesda I guess.

So you're still getting the same thing when you're entering iSize H=1200 iSize W=1600 instead of iSize H=1080 iSize W=1920?

Glad I'm not the only one. It must be the engine because I only notice it in this game. Reinstalling the game onto my SSD to see if that changes anything. I doubt it, but it's worth a shot.

SSD is a must for this game basically.

Anyone getting a massive drop in FPS every once in a while? Occasionally, the game will apparently freeze for about 2 seconds before continuing like nothing is wrong. It last happened when the gate to Diamond City opened for the first time. My Windows task manager showed a big spike in disk activity when it happened but I'm not sure if it does that every time.

I'm running on a solid state drive

Really wish we would get SLI working officially soon, or at least hear something on it.

Running at 4K I get good performance much of the time, but it dips too low sporadically to be acceptable. So dropped it down to 1440, where I get 60FPS the majority of the time. (Still with dips but playable ones).

But I miss that 4K crispness, especially on trees and buildings. It really is such a huge leap, even over 1440p.

This is just like a thing the game does apparently, happens to me too and it happens in the console versions
