3DS Streetpass Experiences

Didn't get much out of StreetPass weekend since I was actually at a convention. The Yokai Watch puzzle was completed on the first day - kind of anticlimactic considering how long the puzzle drought was. Still haven't sighted that 160th fish, but I finally fished up a third 8+ Anglers Big Catch Boost and rebuilt my rod to incorporate it.

So lucky. I hate how I keep getting worthless abilities Gauge Boosts and Time Boosts and such.

My only X+ Angler Big Catch Boost is a level 1 8+ Angler one. I have a few scattered Big Catch boosts for specific areas, not even one of them are level 3 yet. It's really annoying how luck-based this game is.

Is it really lucky when you consider I had caught 3400 fish before I got the third one?

Man, it really is lame that the "Mystery species" fish, in addition to being a huuuuuge pain to have even show up, then don't even seem to ever keep damage between play sessions despite being hard to catch. I've gotten lucky enough so far that I've gotten everything in my loop with just two left, but it's always nerve-wracking when I need it's my second chance at them (have 2 extra 3DS running just for this) since in addition to needing to do such insane things to have them spawn, you also need to get lucky with the random anglers you get, and then hope the game doesn't screw you and give you junk instead for one of your useful baits.

Maybe I need to figure out getting a better rod as it takes three "hits" on the Mystery species to catch it pretty much no matter what... but even then it's near impossible to get a three star rod to drop, and of course you can't combine the cheaper rods into higher levels... :(

Have you finished the game yet? I wouldn't worry too much about rods until then.

The stamina on those fish are really inconsistent for me too; I get full meters a lot too, but this past weekend nearly every mystery fish I got to revisit had half meters. I think the game just likes to troll you.

Yeah, I finished the game a while back, just rounding up the last two mystery fish and then I need the Mario ones (do those need to be multiples of 10 as well, or do they literally pop up whenever anyone has Mario?)

And that's good to hear that they're not ALWAYS full health at least, so that's something.

Hmm something seems to be wrong, I have not gotten streetpasses in a while!

I got some streetpasses leading up to the yo-kai watch puzzle piece. I got some the day after, too. But since then... none per day. Very unusual since I live in a big city and usually have no problems getting at least a few per day.

I have not changed any settings regarding spotpass. And I have no guests waiting for me to greet them at the plaza... what could be wrong?

wi-fi is on. i've made sure I have no updates in the eshop or within mii plaza or anywhere.
Even though I live in a big city (St. Louis) I get zero streetpasses. Nobody out there carries their fuggin 3DS.
But shouldn't you still get some when you pass a McDonald's or Starbucks? There may be other wi-fi places that store them too, I'm not certain.

I'm certain that Starbucks switched their provider to Google from ATT so that's a no go. The places where I get streetpasses with some regularity are McDonalds, Burger King, Best Buy and Home Depot.

Spend my play coins and it's complete. Since only this game uses them and SMT IV use them I see no reason why I shouldn't.

That's generally what I do, but there are far, far more games that make use of play coins than SMT IV. Actually, I don't think I can name a single game in my library that doesn't have at least one thing to spend play coins on.

I have like 20 streetpasses (all of which have come from kiosks) since getting the AC:HHD n3DS a few months ago. The only time I've ever had success with lots of SP is during Pax East. :(

Pretty much normal here; in most areas you aren't really going to encounter any random people who happen to be carrying their 3DS around in sleep mode. You generally have to go to anime or gaming conventions (or similar events like video game concerts) and make do with relays at Home Depot or McDonalds in between.

I'm aware that there's actually more, but I only have those two that I know of :p

I have a UFO rod with Level 2 6+ Anglers Big Catch Boost. I figured it would take me forever and a day to get the third skill, so I've started to max it out anyway. It's a bit painful though, given how much it costs to fill all four of the stats to maximum.

I had the skill at level 2 for a period of about half a year, so yes, I did max out and use the rod for some time before finally getting the third skill and remaking it. I almost had enough money built up to afford the upgrades the second time around too; only had to go fishing for rare fish 3-4 times to pay off the difference.

I'm still at 153 fish. I missed getting a golden shark by a whisker yesterday - just a couple of seconds more and I would've managed it. To make it even more frustrating, I had four pieces of valid bait to catch it (the gauge was initially at zero), but two of them hauled up junk instead. >_>

I've been having bad luck at fishing, myself. Always having bad bait combinations, or getting the other big fish on the list, than the mystery one I'm after. If I get a swordfish one more time...

My 3ds battery life has fallen off a cliff, so I barely even carry it around anymore.

Streetpass going out with a whimper.

Be careful, I kept my battery in until it couldn't keep any juice at all, then I noticed how my 3DS' underside had got a big bulge. That's when I got myself a new one.

If you happen to have a WiiU Pro Controller swap the battery, the 3DS will have a half what decent batter life again and the Pro Controller will still work 50 hours on a single charge. Well at least mine does.

Not amazing or anything but I was one of the Sydney Pokemon Symphony shows and going through my streetpass. My Mii has the fried chicken hat on and one of the guys I meet has the message "Chicken is tasty" or something along those lines. So I exclaim to my boyfriend "hey this guys says he likes chicken" and then the guy sitting right in front of my is like "THAT'S ME". It was funny and kinda embarrassing at the same time.

So I still only have the default games and I want some cool hats.

What's actually worth buying?
The first batch of 4 has a rather obscured offer to get all four for the price of three.

Which is a good thing as Warrior's Way/Streetpass Battle really isn't worth buying. I also found the second batch of 2 games (Zombies and Fishing) to be a bit weak.

In terms of easiest plaza tickets I think the gardening game might be the easiest. While Mii Force has 15 easy ones it also has some really hard ones (it is a solid and fun shmup though).

If you get a lot of streetpasses the VIP room might be the easiest of all but I wish that thing didn't exist (for the minimal functionality and zero gameplay it offers I find the price charged to be outrageous and completely the opposite of the "Nintendo does it right" DLC people praise).

Might also be worth waiting a few days as there will be some things on sale on the eShop during black Friday which could potentially include these (it has happened before)

I've personally spent the most time with the fishing game, but I own all six. You get discounts for owning all six; if you try to buy one of the first wave (not fishing or zombies) you should get a bundle offer for all four, then when you try to buy one of the two newer ones you should get a loyalty discount bundle. If you enjoyed Find Mii, I think you'll get a lot of mileage out of all six games, and you have to have all of them plus the VIP expansion if you want every last hat and speech bubble.

Go to StreetPass Mii Plaza to purchase games individually for $4.99 each. Or, buy Battleground Z and Ultimate Angler together for $7.99, and Mii Force, Flower Town, Warrior’s Way and Monster Manor together for $14.99.

So all of the games would cost about ~$23 dollars if you buy the bundles. I certainly feel like I got my money's worth out of all of them. They all are mini-representations of various types of games.

I was expecting the Mario & Luigi puzzle to be another zoom-able still image seeing as it had so few pieces and no pinks but it's full-motion and actually really cool.
Best puzzle in a while in fact and I finally (sort of) got the Paper Mario puzzle I always wanted.

I read the latest Japanese puzzle, Picross 3D 2, doesn't have any pink pieces either.
Maybe they really are gone!

Another StreetPass Weekend on NA, so the "Kyle" Mii is being sent again through Spotpass - he's playing TriForce Heroes, using a burger hat. I received mine yesterday.

This must be the 5th or 6th different Kyle Mii that I received, since the first StreetPass Weekend...

Too bad that no one I tag in the relay for streetpass weekend is going to have the new puzzle to get pieces.

No big deal though I got the 8 pinks in the Yokai Watch one really easily.

That shouldn't be completely true, as the act of passing a relay should also download puzzle data.

I am a bit annoyed they sent Kyle out before this puzzle though.

Does the attwifi trick no longer work? I can't get anyone on my home router using it. :(
The SSID attwifi hasn't worked for a year I think.

There is also the matter of how are you planning to use it. I believe all the methods now need unsecured wi-fi which I'm cautious about for obvious reasons (I would use a spare router with silent SSID and MAC filter). As for SSID I think any that are IsZone=1 should work:
