3DS Streetpass Experiences

So Europe gets Tomodachi and Mario McDonalds puzzles. Japan gets a Picross puzzle. America gets... bupkis. What the hell?

In related news, I got through my sixth playthrough of Find Mii II Secret Quest. Only four left.
I also have all but one ticket in Battleground Z, still need 100 medals to activate the last Showdown.

Ultimate Angler question. If I activate a mysterious fish, does it stay until I get it?

You do know even with Europe getting these extra puzzles America is still ahead when it comes to total pieces thanks to Brain Training, Rusty's Baseball and Chibi Robo (WTF NOE this one actually came out). Plus you don't have to be German to get any of those...

Also is bupkis code for America gets another way to cheese puzzle swap and more via special Mii* :P

*-Speaking of which when was the last time Europe got one of those without having to go to a German flea market? About a year ago was it?

The last Spotpass distributed one was Aonuma, so probably from way back when ALBW came out 21 months ago now.
Getting the 'Met 10 Special Mii's' accomplishment is a real challenge for Europeans!

How do you "activate" mysterious fish?!
The only guaranteed methods I've seen is having someone in your queue with a pass count a multiple of 10, and a Special Mii. They'll announce they've seen something at so-and-so location while you're collecting bait, and it'll be marked on your map. There seem to be other qualifications that cause them to pop up unpredictably; a leading theory is if you pass someone who just recently attempted to fish for a rare that they'll share that sighting with you regardless of pass count.

There is a plaza ticket tied to fishing each and every last rare, making it, I think, the most tedious non-birthday plaza ticket. At least the Mii Force tickets don't rely on dumb luck.

Is this confirmed to be Germany-only?

Great. Sounds like a nightmare.

Ultimate Angler question: the mystery species pop up for street passes with people where it's a multiple of 10 with them, yeah? And it has a rotation to it (IE I just got a 60th pass with my one 3ds, so I got a
Golden Salmon
), with it looping back around after 100 (IE 110 is the same as 10). My question is: if you've already caught the mystery species, does it skip ahead in the rotation or... what? Does it just pop up again?

IE, I have my two extra 3DS systems on for this (my old 3DS and my Japanese one), and I just caught the fish for 60 from the one. So what's going to happen when the other one hits 160?

I'm not sure it's quite that complicated. My pass count with my other 3DS is in the upper 900s and the mystery fish still popped up from the inside out, so I would not be surprised if it's similar to Monster Manor puzzle boxes in that it just pops species you haven't yet caught.

Well just got the pass, and it looks like the order is absolute regardless of what you've caught. My 160 pass did indeed give me an alert for the same fish I had already caught for 60 earlier today. That's a shame and will make this take a decent bit longer. Oh well.

What did you do?
I had three files on the SD card that had got updated on that day.
I first tried removing the smallest of around 21KB and started Mii Plaza, which threw an corruption error and deleted something. Turned out I only had the pre installed puzzles left.
Then I restored that file and instead removed the next smallest of around 192KB. Puzzles were back except for the Happy Mario one. So it looks like that second file was it.
Let me add that the McD puzzle was still incomplete, all the others were finished.
In any way, back up your SD card before you try anything.

Finally! I beat the last level in Mii Force without losing any pods! Getting the "no casualty runs on all stages" ticket! Fuck yeah!
Only two left. All Reputations (only 5 left) and Beat Arcade Mode.

How though? The game seems so demanding and difficult. I'm missing so much from every level, that I don't know how I'll ever consistently get everything.

You don't have to get everything; you can dedicate a run to getting all crystals, and another run to not getting hit, etc. Consistency is important in arcade mode but unless you're playing on hard, getting hit there generally isn't the end of a run.

just used up most of my play coins to get all the blue pieces to the new puzzle lol. shame I won't be going to a big anime con this weekend to try to get the pink pieces

After five years and 1051 Plaza population , I finally got my last piece of puzzle from Mc Donalds. Thank fuck for that.

150 coins down the drain and I'm still 3 blue pieces short. There actually is a small-ish convention nearby this weekend (Anime USA) so I'll hope enough people there picked this puzzle up to finish it there.

Interestingly, my Japanese 3DS hasn't picked this puzzle up yet...

Uh, what do you mean? The stock puzzles without updates? I don't see how you can be done with the Yo-kai Watch puzzle if it just came in this morning.

Nope never got that puzzle. Is it America only if so I probably won't get it unless a tourist comes to my neck of the woods.

It's a little too soon to know which regions this puzzle is in. You know how puzzle data works, correct?

  • You must have SpotPass updates enabled for StreetPass Mii Plaza.
  • When a new puzzle is released, you'll receive a SpotPass notification. When you next start Puzzle Swap, you'll be informed a new puzzle is available and will be given a starter piece. This starter piece will be a random puzzle for which you do not have any pieces, and isn't necessarily the newest puzzle.
  • You cannot collect pieces of any puzzle you do not have the SpotPass download data for. As of the most recent firmware, your 3DS will not even show the panels for which you do not have data for while StreetPassing another person.
  • The SpotPass update may provide more than one puzzle, but you'll only receive one piece per update. You need to StreetPass with others who have puzzles for which you have no pieces (but for which the data has been downloaded via SpotPass) in order to start being able to collect pieces via Play Coins.
If this puzzle is indeed America only and you do not have an American 3DS, then it is not possible for you to collect pieces from this puzzle, even if you StreetPass with an American 3DS that has pieces for it.

Just got the new puzzle! It's been too long.
Just as I was watching the new Yo-Kai Watch episode too. Heh.

Got back from Korea last week, got more hits than I remember last year, and I think most were actually korean this time (vs most last time being from American or Japanese tourists last time). Not to say I got a lot though, I think something like 10-15 total.

And there's still no map for Korea or any character support (for the US 3DS at least) so all the messages were still just black blocks for me.

Ugh, I had one of those days where I filled up my passes, unloaded, got more, and accidentally hit "go to gate" out of habit, losing the 10... -_- At least I caught 3 new fish today, so I guess that makes up...

Also, I hate when I accidentally don't give someone a fantastic rating. Why is it the second choice down?? Sometimes I go through clicking fast and end up hitting the top choice. It's like Nintendo wants you to not be nice to people :x

It's like they want you to mean it.

I'm sorry peoples that I don't rate fantastic v_v... I always feel so bad because sometimes when you click through so fast, some people you run into a bunch of times don't give you the option to rate you.

When I'm at cons like PAX for the weekend, sometimes I wonder if people don't care, or if they do the same thing as me and click through so fast to unload, that they accidentally miss people.

I don't think it's particularly difficult to move that cursor. You just have to be paying attention and not blindly mashing that button. I am often clearing the queues of two 3DSes simultaneously and I never miss the option on either unit.

I never thought of doing that. I'm pretty big on not outright gaming the system though, so I'll probably not try it.

Kyle did get me the 159th fish, which I miraculously pulled up from full meter with only two viable baits. One more to go!
