Sexual assault and the porn world: Stoya accuses James Deen of rape

The BDSM community needs to be more concerned with someone being raped than trying to excuse it with "that might be BDSM tho"

Not only are his videos poorly labeled, the way in which he uses choking does not have the perception of affirmative consent or desire. I don't see women bringing his hands to their neck, a form of affirmative consent, but rather it always seems like he just whips it out of nowhere and they're just going with it. His marketing always seems to hide these actions too, so people are told that this is a friendly feminist guy and then all of a sudden they have to see choking.

Affirmative consent is sexy, affirmitave consent is a component of feminism. Deen does not espouse these views and makes all efforts to portray himself as "real" while riding the brogressive PR wave.

Hope she can find some justice and seek any help she needs. Good thing I haven't watched anything with him in it, though there are plenty of creepy men in porn.

Well the fact that Stoya mentioned safewords we can assume they were having rough sex

Well yeah, we now know because it was confirmed by her tweet.

I'm talking about thinking that James Dean must like rough, dominating sex because he does those scenes in porn. The scenes they shoot means very little to a porn star's personal sex life.

Speaking of this, is Bonnie Rotten still doing porn after the assault against her? She got beat up real fucking bad:(

First of all, that was Christy Mack that got assaulted. Second of all, nope. And the lawyers for her abuser are actually trying to claim that because she filmed rough scenes, what he did to her was actually consensual.

Oh give me a fucking break....

Was there an article somewhere about this? I'd like to see it.

He's shooting scenes with legit producers a lot of the time. These are always rehearsed and the women know what they are getting into. On set it shit was getting out of hand there are people there to stop it.

It's near the bottom:

During the Nov. 23 hearing, Koppenhaver's attorneys unsuccessfully argued that because Mackinday is an adult actress whose work included filming rough sex, the former MMA fighter had "consent" for "a particular form of sex activities that were outside of the norm."

"The jury needs to know the nature of this relationship, and what was customary and consensual," Sua told reporters outside the courtroom.

Prosecutors were skeptical of that claim.

"I don't see how any of those activities that she did in adult movies would ever show her consent to the acts with the defendant that he's charged with," Cadish said, according to the Review-Journal. "I'm not seeing that connection."

Fair enough. I see your point.

I don't see how saying that the things he does in his scenes is not an indicator of his rape tendencies is excusing the rape.

If you walked in on me and my girlfriend having sex everyday for a week, and you saw me start choking her and being really rough with her, you're welcome to bring your concern to us, but say I'm probably a rapist.

I most likely (and in the case of almost 100% of these porn videos), I was given consent before the fact. I'm sorry but affirmative consent in the moment is definitely not sexy, and not always needed.

Porn is scripted though, if the actresses had a problem with it the producers would tell him to stop. What he does in the bedroom is different and seems to be the problem here.

I've always found the weird stuff that some dudes do like the choking and the fish hooking especially really puts me off. Not sure if they ad lib that or if that's done for pain/punishment guys but I find it extremely distasteful whenever it pops up.

Ugh. Yeah, I've never been a fan of the choking, fish hooking, spitting in the woman's mouth, slapping her across the face. Instant turn off for me. Rough, passionate fucking never bothers me, but when it goes into the tears streaming down the face, mascara running, gagging, I draw the line. Maybe I'm just a vanilla porn kind of guy, I don't know. Thankfully, a lot of adult films are kind of passé, but I know a lot of people who have this image in their heads of horrible sex acts and violence when they think of porn, but the vast majority of the mainstream stuff is just people fucking.

It's probably really hard to get past being raped if your job is fucking in front of other people. Sounds like a straight up hellish thing to have to deal with.

Holy shit, weren't they dating recently? I thought they were even engaged.

I always thought Deen was a pretty decent guy - I want to not believe this, but I also know Stoya is an intelligent, competent person. If she says so, then it's so. How the fuck is he not in jail right now?

Not all porn is fully scripted, sometimes they "go with it".

There was an HBO special (sex on//?) with Deen where precisely this happened. And there seems to be an alarming rise of porn that preys on "newbies" to the industry where they really don't grasp the situation they're in, so they'll often be pressured into doing things they otherwise wouldn't have agreed to.

I'd argue the other direction, it's possible that due to the increasingly realistic rapey scenes this dude carried out on a daily/weekly basis, all that dopamine and all of those primal instincts start to rewire your brain in subsconcious ways. The abuse might be pre-planned, but it's still a physical act you're carrying out. And a handful of scenes I've seen him in I've turned off because they go a bit past BDSM, they were getting downright brutal.

I'd also agree with the viewpoint that none of this needed to occur, and he could have just been a scumbag from the get-go.

Affirmative consent isn't sexy and isn't needed? The hell?

If you think asking someone if they want to keep going or have something done to them has a chance of them telling you no or them stopping so you avoid doing so, you're not having consensual sex with them.

I use affirmative consent all the time. Every single one of my partners has liked it. You're not dryly going "DO YOU WISH TO HAVE SEXUAL COPULATIONS WITH ME IN THIS INSTANCE?", all it takes is whispering into their ear "you want some more?" or "you ready for some dick?" or letting them bring your hand to their neck first, an unspoken form of affirmative consent.

If you don't think affirmative consent is "needed" then you are not qualified to speak on consent. At no single moment in time does anyone ever have a default right to someone's body.

The wording of this reminds me of the type of conversation starter that comes up unprompted with forced distant uncle interactions during thanksgiving.

Reread the part of his comment you quoted and focus on actually reading every word.

Porn is that person turned up to 11.

And you can definitely be raped on a porn set. One's profession does not make their rape excused nor less likely.

If you browse efukt you can easily see a lot of "legal rape" its seriously disturbing. In particular face fuckers.

Edit:

something bothers me about this. she said she used her safe word. So let me guess this straight. This was consensual sex for a porn scene that got out of hand? I need more info.

No way, man. Porn producers are there. They got consent forms, a conscience, a few priests, a UN council, and Bubba the cum-couch cleaner on the set of Dirty Fucking Whores 8. These are consummate professionals.

Yeah, stuff like that is why I pretty much only watch lesbian porn or older stuff (70s/80s).

That doesn't make any sense. That's like saying that Bruce Willis is a vigilante hero because the Die Hard movies are that turned up to 11.

Of course it's possible, however it's much less likely simply because these things are usually planned. I don't doubt that it has happened, however I would think more often than not that's not the case.

People use safe words in real life too.

Nah. This was most likely off screen during their own personal time. The two did date for a while.

Safewords are also used in the bedroom, so I don't know.

One poster said it was not for a scene?

When you use rape play, even in real life, it's necessary to have the safe word. When the other person just isn't into it anymore, is being hurt, or sick or for any reason they want.

When she tried the safe word and he continued, it was basically the second "no" she was giving.

Safe words are often used by couples that are into BDSM/rough sex/fantasy play for one to let their partner know that things are going too far.

What I'm trying to say is, indicating a safe word exists means it started out as consensual. Otherwise the safeword would not exist. I only assumed it was a scene, but it can also apply to the bedroom.

edit: the way its worded indicates it was used during this encounter. Im not making conclusions, i just need more info.

You can use a safe word more than once. Seeing as they were into rough play, they likely already had a conversation and established safe words well before this incident.

What more do you need? The whole thing is that she used her safe word and the sex continued. Hence she is calling it rape.

I don't understand what point you're trying to make here.

You mean Christy Mack? It can be easy to confuse the two.

I don't think she's returned yet.

Jesus she got beat up?

EDIT: Oh you got her and Mack confused. Mack is the one with the MMA ex.

Bonnie Rotten is pregnant. You're thinking of Christy Mack. She's not working as far as I know.

First of all, that was Christy Mack that got assaulted. Second of all, nope. And the lawyers for her abuser are actually trying to claim that because she filmed rough scenes, what he did to her was actually consensual.

Thanks mates- Yeah it was Mack I was thinking of.

It's so fucking crazy. She is crazy beautiful. Her looks is her life. I mean- Besides all the obvious insanities of abuse and the mental trauma, destroying her looks is the same as cutting off the fingers of a chef or a muscian or, making a photographer blind. You're taking away their ability to work.

What really sucks also is just (I know comments being comments) the shitheads who think its awesome because they hated the MMA guy and was glad to see him cut. Some UFC fans are just pathetic idiots. Like holy shit. Even by internet comment standards it cannot get a lot more gross than that.

I'm not all that shocked. The way he and other male porn stars carry themselves in interviews and on social media you can see very aggressive behaviour or thinking like they are above their female counterparts. Probably goes to their head that they are the dominant ones in control 99% of the time in scenes.

What I'm trying to say is, indicating a safe word exists means it started out as consensual. Otherwise the safeword would not exist. I only assumed it was a scene, but it can also apply to the bedroom.

Sex can start with consent and then become rape when one of the participants withdraws their consent but the other person ignores the consent being withdrawn.

You need to stop immediately once a safe word is used if you're using one. No "finishing", or even finishing your stroke, you just stop instantly, and don't debate with them over why.
