I'd like to see another flashback or two of Frieza's training.
Beating up on Tagoma practically every day does amuse me. This guy surely learned how to take some abuse.

Also, I wonder if Vegeta is keeping up better than Goku? Implying Goku couldn't stand may show that Vegeta still has an edge.

Wow, episode 21 got intense at the end. They changed quite a bit.
It looked like Gohan was about to go Super Saiyan and tear Shisami apart, but Tagoma being there changed everything. And Goten and Trunks are coming too. I'm enjoying this version quite a bit.

I also like that they addressed why Buu didn't show up.

I don't think Gohan felt it was necessary to even go SSJ to beat Shisami. I think it's true, Shisami is actually weak as hell. Definitely not as strong as a SSJ.

Tagoma's power is actually believable. But it's unclear how strong he is exactly.
Stronger than Piccolo? That's probably at least as strong as Semi-Perfect Cell.
If Gotenks can't easily put this guy down at SSJ2, I'd be very surprised.

ROF isn't nearly as fun without FRIEZAFRIEZAFRIEZAFRIEZA

However,
GOTENKS HYPE

Hopefully there's a timeskip after the tournament too... Teen Goten and Trunks need to happen. They're already older than Teen Gohan.

The first Super OP showed Gotenks/Mr. Satan with the line about "those who overestimate themselves". Now it shows Freeza and his army

Wonder if things are changing?
Maybe Gotenks takes down Frieza?
Are gifs of episodes in this thread OK if they are spoiler tagged?
They show up on mobile without spoiler tags since the system doesn't work on mobile. Pls no - for my data's sake. Just link them

Gotenks' body count is zero, and his effectiveness is like a 5/10 for stalling and or buying time for daddy to come and clean up his mess.

I was fully expecting him to go Super Saiyan at that point. He did in the movie, right? So what ended up happening instead was pretty surprising.

In the grand scheme of things, Tagoma probably isn't that big of a threat. Gohan and Gotenks can probably get rid of him.

It'd be awesome if SSJ3 Gotenks and first form Frieza duke it out and it proves to be a good fight.

Frieza will notice the face of Goku and Trunks in Gotenks. Kinda sweet.

I'll be surprised if Gotenks is portrayed as stronger than Gohan, actually. The episode titles and summaries, as well as the episode preview, are still Gohan focused, so I can't see Gotenks having much of an effect, but we'll see, I guess.

Hmm, was that it for the main Frieza army? That fight didn't hold a candle to the movie's version.

Story-wise, things are getting interesting, though. Looks like next week should be good (except I've always sort of hated
Gotenks
).

Even though Gohan was taken out it's definitly a much better way then the movie did it and made it look more that Gohan was caught off guard rather then being a has been.

I'll be surprised if Gotenks isn't stronger. The kids train, and Gohan doesn't.

Based on the next episode preview:

He's not done fighting, which is cool. Prefer this to what happened in the movie when everyone pretty much stood on the side after all the goons were taken out.

The way they changed it makes it seem like more foreshadowing to Goku getting shot from behind, if that happens in the TV show as well.

Goten and Trunks don't train either though. They play around, but they've never been shown doing any serious training post-Buu Saga, in spite of Goten especially getting quite a few appearances throughout Super.

To be fair, I get the feeling they spar each other quite a bit as part of their play

Is Freiza returning not in the manga?

Toyotaro already covered the begining of the F movie in manga form before Super, so they decided to skip it and jump to the new stuff to build up hype, they still mention the fight with Freeza in the manga.
You have to remember, the manga isn't the original work this time, it's merely a promotional piece for the show.

Was Mystic Gohan or SSJ3 Gotenks stronger during Majin Buu arc? I couldn't remember.

Mystic Gohan. SSJ3 Gotenks at best had very slight advantage over Super Buu, although I think they were more or less even. Mystic Gohan was casually messing up that same Buu.

The Power Scale in the Buu Saga [including Fusions is generally considered]

Vegito > Buuhan > Buutenks > Gohan > Super Buu = SSJ3 Gotenks > SSJ3 Goku >= Kid Buu

Damn I like the way they are mixing things up this time around. Can't wait for next week's episode. Also, it seems like they are trying to tell us that as of now, Vegeta is the stronger warrior, even if by a small margin.

We know that they don't train by the end of Z (Goku had to force Goten to train for the tournament), and, so far, in Super, we haven't seen them sparring or anything. In this episode itself, they were just playing when they sensed Tagoma's power. Earlier in the show, we even see Goten taking Goku's work while he goes to train, never Goten himself training.

Buu was....Sleeping? Awful excuse making ramped up again. But from the above it sounds like I'm still in for a good episode.

Regarding the Buu bit, it was actually in Toriyama's script (and even in the manga adaptation), but it was cut from the movie itself for some reason, so it isn't something added by Super.

Either way though, before RoF, when Toriyama explained the real origin of Buu, there was the concept that he alternates in cycles of destruction and hibernation. During his sleep, he absorbs evil, and that's how Kid Buu became pure evil. At the end of the explanation, he said that the current Buu isn't exactly the same creature, so it's unknown if the same would happen to it. Still, with this scene added there, it seems likely that the same cycle is happening with Mr.Buu too.

Or he's just sleeping...

The way Gohan talked about it, it seems he just is a deep sleeper, a regular daily occurrence they know of, rather than anything deeper than that.

I'm curious about the overlap in roles between Buu and the God of Destruction. Both follow the hibernation/destruction cycle like certain gods in the Hindu mythos and I'm guessing Japanese legends as well. But then what are their distinct purposes? Buu "absorbs evil", so is kind of a balance bringer I guess, and so is Beerus in balancing life in the galaxy.

Oh how the Gods of Creation are so forgotten [Supreme Kai's] - at least Kibito has the most impressive form of transportation in the series still!

Was Mystic Gohan or SSJ3 Gotenks stronger during Majin Buu arc? I couldn't remember.

Mystic Gohan for sure.

But Gohan seems to slack and not even get out much. The adventurousness of Goten and Trunks might mean that SSJ3 Gotenks is about the same as before.

So I could see Gotenks being the stronger fighter.

Well Trunks spars with Vegeta in the Super intro so there's that at least...

I thought it could be a reference to the hibernation, but, it could be just some comically heavy sleep too. I guess we'll know with the upcoming Universe 6 arc. If it's hibernation, he might still be sleeping there, after all.

I think Buu just went evil by exposure to bad people, like the original Kami/Piccolo. I doubt he literally takes people's evil energy out of them.

I don't get your comparison to Kami/Piccolo. He had some evil within him because most people aren't completely pure. I don't think Kid Buu seems like something that was corrupted by meeting evil people through the ages, especially since it's said that it was rampaged, they just got more violent once it became more evil.

Though in the manga Kaiōshin said that Bibidi made him, the truth is that one called “Buu” was not actually created by Bididi, but has existed since time immemorial. He cycled between rampages and long hibernation. During numerous iterations of this cycle, he absorbed the evil elements of mankind, becoming steadily more violent. Bibidi merely knew the means of calling Buu from out of his long slumber. Since the current Buu is a slightly different life-form due to the changes brought about when the evil Buu was expelled, it’s not known whether he’ll still go into long hibernation.

Hated this episode, hope you guys can clarify some things (maybe the subs were bad):

The fuck Krillin...why is he so scared and why was everyone else so scared? Freeza himself said that pretty much all soldiers were C-tier or something like that. Also, aren't they all able to sense the powerlevels of those scrubs? How much weaker did Krillin get? I understand he is scared of Freeza, but those soldiers were shit and they all know...I really didn't get the 'Krillin must find his courage' part. Wasn't in the movie iirc and it was just a total waste of time. With all the shit Krillin has seen, the enemies he fought up to this point and all his training (even if he stopped fighting)...gtfo. If you aren't sure you're stronger than all those C-level soldiers and need a speech from Roshi....just stfu and stay home cry baby (why the fuck did he cry?). Send your wife next time.

Gohan, Jesus Christ. Just stop it Toriyama, it feels like he is doing it on purpose to hurt us Gohan fans. (unless it was different in the manga). First of all, how could such a blast just go right through him? Shouldn't his body be able just to shrug it off like nothing at this point? Even if he did not train, he should be able to wipe out that entire army in 5 seconds. ''He let his guard down'', what does that even mean? What is this guard and how do you put it up or lower it? And why would it be down at that very moment, with hundreds of enemies around, one of which is hugging you (who is to say he won't blow himself up?). This was just so stupid and annoying. ''I'm not a kid anymore, won't need your help'' *both smile* *gets fucked* ughhh

Not really a problem with this one, but I was just wondering: why don't Goku and Vegeta just fight Beerus together if he is awake? Wouldn't that be a better training?

To be fair...

Goku got taken out by a laser in the Resurrection F movie too because he was caught off guard. The same thing happened here to Gohan. My guess is they're trying to nail home the message that was prominent in the movie: don't let your guard down. It's not like he's completely out of the fight if the next episode preview is anything to go by either so all this doom and gloom is kind of uncalled for. Let's wait and see what happens next.

As for Krillin... idk he's just too old for this shit.

Eh. Krillin crying's almost a trademark for him. Crying when he's happy to see Goku again. Crying because of something awful to happen. Etc.

Krillin was mostly just shook because he was already killed by Frieza. That'd make anyone a bit nervous.

He's gotten his ass kicked so many times over the years he's probably lost faith in his ability to win a fight. It was a bit silly, but I do like seeing dedicated screen time towards the other Z fighters.

Letting your guard down is a thing. It happened to Goku in RoF, too.
Gohan let his guard down because he didn't perceive Shisami as a threat at all.
Gohan wasn't going to let Shisami hurt him.

I don't think he was aware that Tagoma is actually quite strong.

Also, you're right. He could wipe out that army in 5 seconds. Frieza even says so in RoF.
But they are being conservative in their strategy to buy time.

I thought the Krillin stuff was good, it's those moments that make them feel like actual characters, he already had moments throughout super worrying about his abilities in comparison to Goku and this was just a capper on that
