Xenoblade Chronicles X - Review Thread

I'm loving the freedom of movement, but the LOD in the city an lack of collision detection is a bit much.

I'm still entirely sold though, because the natural environments look jaw-dropping.

The most truly horrific voice acting I've ever come across in a game attached to that monster right there. Dear sweet Jaysus... Melia on the other hand. Voice actress supreme.
Riki's English voice was disgusting. He's meant to sound cute but they made him sound like some sort of troll.

I got 12gb free on my Wii U but I was only able to download 3 of the data packs, even when I downloaded them 1 at a time. It says it needs the game to install the data packs. Is this normal? I thought people said before that you can download and install them 1 at a time so you only need 10 Gb :/

Someone said earlier that the console will install them even if you don't have the game as long as you turn it off, provided you enabled update/install activity while in standby mode (power light becomes orange instead of red).

Weird question: Does anyone know if the combat in this game is similar to that of Guild Wars 2? I'm interested in a game with some similarities, and I basically played GW2 solo.

This game reviewed significantly better than what I expected (based on the mediocre import impressions I've been reading last year on here). Expected something in the low 70ies. After reading some of the reviews I am actually reconsidering not-getting this game.

Get the game; you can have fun.

I think that I really loved the party mostly becuase the banter between them during and after combat, I mean:

Reyn: Is everyone ok?
Seven: Reyn, you're asking if we're ok? Are YOU alright?
Melia: I agree it's a momentous occasion.
Reyn: Charming. I wonder why I bother.

---

Shulk: Do you think you could teach me how to use ether/a rifle sometime?
Dunban: So that's how it is? Giving up the sword already?
Shulk: N-no! That's not it at all!

---

Shulk: When did you two get so tough?
Seven: What? Just because we're girls we're supposed to be wimps?
Melia: You have much to learn about the fairer sex, Shulk.
Shulk: *sigh* Why do I feel like mastering the Monado will be easier.

---

Reyn: Sharla, did you see me? Did you see what I did?
Sharla: Oh, I, uh... wasn't really looking.
Reyn: Aww come on, that's not fair!
Shulk: Hahahahaha!

Xenoblade's combat was very, very MMO-ish, and it looks like XBX's is more or less identical. It's been a while since I played GW2, but if you like the combat in that game, I'm 100% sure you'll like the combat in XBX

Wouldn't mentioning Fiora there be a pretty big spoiler to anyone who thinks about it for more than a couple of seconds? I see people refer to her as Seven still and there also seems to be a bunch of people here who are thinking of giving the original XB a try so you know, just saying

Lack of collision detection? Where? It acts just like Xenoblade Chronicles.

Yeah, there were some good ones. I'll add one I remember as well

Reyn: You can't have a rainbow without Reyn!
Melia: Dunban, you need to have a talk with him.
Dunban: No. We'll just pretend it never happened.

Eeek!
edited, I swear I wrote Seven instead of Fiora =/

I love that every single party mix had their very own dialogue with each other. Really made bought the characters and their relationships to life IMO.

Edit: Also welcome back rhandino! Glad you're here in time for the launch. Your gifs are always givin me life!

The best:

Reyn - Ha! When the going gets going, the tough get tough.
Riki - *Laughs* Even Riki know that not right.
Dunban - Reyn, what are you babbling on about?

With cars and skells in the city.

And comparing it to the old Wii game isn't really doing it any favours in that department. I don't recall XC1 having as noticeable clipping, probably because of the lack of cars. It's a smaller issue, but a bit distracting. Perhaps it's to keep the player from getting killed by traffic?

Fun fact someone on gamefaqs has found 46 reviews and the average stands at 89

I love Friday releases! Get to play this on the weekend, much more free time. I know what I'm doing all day Sat/Sun. Though PSX experience is those days too. I'll have to wait and watch those streams later.

Ah, yeah, that one! I'm glad that I messed with my party a little to get these after a battle is done every once in a while. I think that was one of the big reasons I switched out my party other than seeing everyone's play style far as arts and stuff.

Riki's English voice was disgusting. He's meant to sound cute but they made him sound like some sort of troll.

I think that's kinda the point though. He's presented as a cute mascot character, but is actually like
a 40 year old creature trying to provide for his family
(minor Riki spoiler). He's also relatively powerful in the game. So his voice isn't meant to be stereotypically cute. I didn't like his voice at first, but it grew on me as his character got more developed.

It just hit me, none of the 5/5 or 10/10 review is on metacritic or opencritic.
Did I miss something that makes them not covered?

I like his english voice but it kinda takes away from the scene at the end of Makna. It sounds too appropriate.

Opencritic basically won't count the Eurogamer Essential into it's score at all since it's not a number score. At least its listed. Dunno about MC.

Ah whatever, just give me the game already.

it's the other way around. it's 10GB but it needs 15.3GB to download and install after which you're left with the 10GB installed files.

Is it possible to move HUD elements to the gamepad?

No but you can turn everything off.

This may be a dumb question, but are those 10GB of pre-download files for the digital version, or should I be grabbing them for the disc version as well?

I ended up scoring this for 30% off via Best Buy. :)

Those are for the physical version. The Digital includes them already.

Only for the Disc Version, you don't need them if you go digital.

Does the HUD fade out like in Xenoblade if your not in battle? I really liked that.

Yes.

The eShop page tells you over and over that this is only for the disc version and entirely useless if you got the eShop version. :)

I believe it's for the skells, since you can walk anywhere with your skell, it would be annoying to be stopped everytime a car pulls in front of you

I really want the special edition, but it costs twice as much as the digital copy (with the promotional discount) here in Norway...

And I can't quite justify that.

Wish Amazon would ship early, but they never/ever break dates. :/

Yeah it makes me wonder how employees can mess up so bad.. Like don't retailers have locks on their system that block the sale before release date. And online retailers wouldn't send it out an entire week early... would they?

Some smaller releases never get locks put on them because who would be asking for them early?
Plus retail workers usually aren't up to date on this stuff.
