Xenoblade Chronicles X - Review Thread

This game might end up being a case of me unlocking the final story mission in 80 hours and completing the story after 200+ hours. I put off the original Xenoblade ending for months.

I got the game early! :D

(You can still screenshot games and upload pics to imgur even if the Miiverse community isn't up yet.)

Rad. Which shop/retailer?

Add me to the list that found the Xenoblade cast pretty standard. I really didn't like any of the characters. I would rather have a game featuring Allen Ridgeley, Helmer and Juli Mizrahi than anyone from blade.

While I love the XB cast in-battle, and Reyn + Melia in general, I agree.

question not related to reviews (we probably don't need 4 xenoblade threads bumped) -

is there visual mech customization outside of colours and weapons? I know there's other equipment but I'm curious if there's little doodads and such that change when things are equipped.

There's a ton of weapon slots you can change that effect how it looks.
Plus about half a dozen different mech designs.
And the color choices are pretty deep. You can even change the color of your energy.

I know all that already. Just curious if there were ways to add small elements outside of weapons, like for example different-looking boosters or head items. One of the first screenshots I ever saw of this game (with english text) the mech had a "Pile Bunker" and "Heat Horn" equipped. Since then all I can think about is how closely I can approximate Alteisen from Super Robot Wars.

There are
advanced Skell models that look a little different from the base model. For example there is the Formula model and the Formula ZERO
but I don't think you can change their armor beyond the colors and the weapons.

Example: Formula model and
Formula Zero model

Oh man, I can't wait to get into some mech customization. We gotta play some multiplayer together, mupod. I'll still get all the good loot, though. ;P

The OP should include Ars Technica's amazing review (by Steven Strom, not Kyle Orland): http://arstechnica.com/gaming/2015/...eview-the-reward-is-sweeter-for-the-struggle/

Choice quotes:

After about 25 to 30 hours of solid work, Xenoblade Chronicles X finally becomes a video game. Before that point, the game exists not to be enjoyed but to rhythmically clobber you into a biomass able to be sculpted into someone capable of playing the remainder of Xenoblade Chronicles X.
If you're a standard model human being and not the reconstructed homunculus the game's crushing crucible eventually turns its players into, you'll probably forget one or two things along the way
Before you know it, you're delivering frozen pizza to a race of lizard people who sound like Alvin and the Chipmunks.

He still liked it overall.

Is this the part of the review thread where we act like Metacritic is the devil for some weighing that doesn't really move the average much in the first place?

Lol. I just wanted to know how Metacritic works here. It is just my honest opinion here as it does sounds kinda unfair as how can one opinion be consider to be much higher value than other opinion here.T_T

But, it does looks like currently, Metacritic is one of easiest way to tally all review score.^_^

This is correct, I used to work there. If you try to sell something before street date a big warning comes up that basically says you're ass is fired if you sell that game.
In Italy they break the street date if the company decides to, they did it with Smash Bros for 3DS and other games, don't know if that's the case for other countries. Xenoblade is a niche game so chances are very very small.

Those are for the physical version. The Digital includes them already.

Only for the Disc Version, you don't need them if you go digital.

The eShop page tells you over and over that this is only for the disc version and entirely useless if you got the eShop version. :)

Thanks! I hadn't actually checked the eShop and has just heard some rumblings about it here and there online. I wasn't sure if it was a pre-load dealie for the digital version or specifically to speed up the physical version (which apparently it is). Thanks again! :)

I should read this later. Also the Man-on things sound more like that one boss from House of the Dead 2. SUFFER LIKE G DID?

Of course. I practically had to excavate my Wii U beneath a pile of dust this morning but my NNID is in my profile.

I can't wait to make the ugliest Xenofaced motherfucker in Mira.

How is the character creator? Is it possible to make some really freakish characters.

It's kind of limited but with some imagination you can accomplish some weird characters, like that one vid where someone created Beast from X-Men O_o

If Marvel's not gonna put the X-Men in anymore games, I guess someone has to.
But seriously, that looks awesome.

I never worked for GameStop, but I don't even know why a warning would be necessary. I worked at Circuit City from 2004 to 2006, and the P.O.S. simply wouldn't let you proceed with the transaction. You would just get a simple message like:

"This product is not available for purchase until 12/4/2015" and it wouldn't let you proceed with the transaction.

Why only some and not all the way to the end if you loved it? =(

Time and backlog, time is my enemy, don't have enough time to play now.

Playing Pikmin 3, W101, Rayman Legends, Metroid Prime 1, SMG 2, among others, and just got Witcher 3 and Shadow of Mordor on sale.

I try to focus on 1 game but I have an anxiety problem, the last time I was able to focus on 1 game was for SMG, Zelda WW HD and TLOUR.

Hopefully I'll be able to create at least KINDA fucked looking characters. I'm not a fan of mute avatars as main characters, but having a goofy looking idiot appear in super serious cut scenes usually makes up for the muteness a bit.

There is something oddly satisfying about being destroyed by a high level enemy early in the game, just to go back later and curb stomp it into oblivion.

Exactly. I think back to getting killed by the Fel Reaver in Hellfire Peninsula in WoW because I wasn't paying attention to my surroundings. Then going back there to kick his ass later on after I leveled up.

Maaaaan, Thursday night is gonna be great. I'll watch The Game Awards while I download this game, and then I'll just play until the wee hours of the morn since it's work from home Fridays around these parts.

From a personal financial perspective, I'm glad to see these reviews are above average overall rather than great across the board. This one might have been the tipping point for me to get a Wii U.

Man I can't wait till Thu-Fri midnight and MAYBE start my fucking download before going to bed if the game's up on eShop by then, then hoping my terrible Wii U hasn't randomly disconnected during the night, so I'll MAYBE get to play during Friday night cause the download speeds are super terrible even on my 100/100 connection!

It's 2015, the game's 20+ gigabytes and the US peeps could preload the game just fine. Hell, even the data packs are up! What the fuck, NoE?

Don't tempt me to buy a Wii U :(

Buy X, buy Tropical Freeze, buy Mario 3DW/ or Maker/ or New U, buy Splatoon, buy Smash

and never go outside again. There's plenty of compelling reasons to have a WiiU by now. There's other good games outside of those, but those ~5 are enough for any one console to make a purchase on.
