That's basically anything after the frieza saga tho lol
Buu saga was the epitome of AT making shit up as he goes along, and wth his new editor giving him more freedom than ever before he just went off the rails.
The new editor made all the difference. Like he was the polar opposite of the other guy. I don't have the articles on me but Kanzenshu or some other internet place probably does.

Android arc was all over the place because his editor didn't let him do anything. Buu was all over the place because he let him do everything. Despite both of them lacking focus at certain points I feel like the Android arc still felt more put together than all of the ideas being thrown at the wall during Buu.

I'd like to see a story where 17 and 18 really were the main villains. I don't even know how that would work.

The real question is why Trunks lost his sword so soon. That was his defining characteristic. lolnope 18's fucking skin broke it.

I assume that at some point 16 would pretty much take Cell's role, maybe some back up program would activate and change his personality or he'd just have to carry on with his mission, even if he didn't wish to see people dying (which could make him stand out from the other villains since he'd be basically forced to fight).

Keep in mind that originally 19 and 20 were the villains. The editor forced Toriyama to introduce the twins, and then Cell, and then the Cell evolutions.

Dunno what happened during Buu. Have to assume that the original plan was to have Gohan's adventures as the great saiyaman, but that was soon seen to not be working.

That ain't Gokule

It's a good thing Goku had the Potara Earrings, you'd have to be as strong as Hercule to do the fusion dance with him.
Oh man, I totally forgot about this one. Thank you for the new avatar idea.

I also love how many of those weird pairings were in one of those Budokai games. I'd play a whole "What if" DBZ game, honestly.

I don't think that was ever the case. The anime extended Gohan's adventures in town for a few episodes, but in the manga, the tournament build up starts basically after one chapter of Great Sayaman, with Videl learning his identity and asking him to train her. The "Gohan in the big city" stuff was just meant to introduce the new post-time skip characters.

It wasn't even his current editor that made the android/cell saga all over the place, it his former editor that called him up and was all "hey man 19 and 20 look lame." Then he called again and was all "17 and 18 look lame too."

I assume he made a couple more calls going 'Cell looks pretty lame too.'

Yeah but some of those people fuck off after standing around in the tournament for five minutes.

Gotta think there was a point to Erasa and Sharpna.

Besides, it seems that Toriyama really intended for Gohan to take over the series. Maybe Goku would have shown up at the tournament and then fuck off again. If there was backslash against Gohan being the protagonist it happened super quick tho.

I'm pretty sure the chain of Toriyama editors goes

Kazuhiko Torishima - first editor, on dr. slump to the end of dragon ball, called in and said the androids all looked lame, thinks the series should have ended at freeza because toriyama could have moved on to another long manga.

Yu Kondo: Start of Z to the end of Perfect Cell, was behind the shift to more battles, introduced the concept of Cell transforming at least.

Fuyuto Takeda: Buu saga until Jaco.

Finally some plot progression, loving this show now to fill my Naruto gap, bad animation not counting (FU GAF for making me notice this stuff :p) but I'll race to that home release ASAP once it's dubbed with some Faulconer goodness and Drummond VA (yes I know will never happen :()

This is to go even further beyond
Watch me go to blue from blonde
Don't you try and get me conned
Assassinated before you spawned

DBZ is back son!!

Tiencha is an amazing concept. The whole idea of fusions really, starting with Cell (Krillin Absorbed).

Tenshinhan would obviously fuse with Chaotzu first instead of Yamcha.

If you are going to fuse down anyway, better to go with your best friend.

Buu is the worst Dragon Ball arc period. It had potential until it started doing a narrative zig zag all over the place.

Buuhan/Buutenks is probably my favorite villain though. Even if his reason for existence is ironically terrible. He was intelligent, powerful, cunning, ruthless, and totally evil. The perfect DB villain.

Super Buu seemed the most cunning and intelligent by far with all the junk he pulled off. (escaping the time chamber was probably a hoax/luck though.)

Gohan Buu didn't do jack, at all. Just got worked by Vegito and fell for his trap. And was so ruthless he wanted to let Goku fuse.
He just had a good voice actor. Well, it was the same voice actor...he just had a good voice.

Yeah, I used to like the Buu arc the most as a kid. But reanalyzing it, a lot of stuff was dumb. It did still have some of the best "moments" I suppose, so maybe that's why I liked it. (And it had the best two minutes of animation and choreography in a dbz fight ever imo)

What? How can you hate on Goten? He's basically carefree Kid Goku. Goten > Gohan atm imo. If any character is boring right now it is him.

:sadface

I got your back.
Another goten fan!? Ayeee. Goten was a missed opportunity man. When he first popped up and went ssj on gohan and said it happened while training with chichi!! No less(the very woman responsible for the gohan we have now) i was psyched

Goten is a Kid Goku without the serious interest in martial arts. He doesn't search for masters or attempts to improve himself or anything. He's even more one dimensional than his father was.

I think the most interesting thing I found about Goten was him growing his hair differently to look more different from his father.

I think Toriyama said it was because you wouldn't be able to tell the difference between Goku and adult Goten.

Is there a release date for the next manga chapter? Can't seem to find it

AFAIK the Dragon Ball Super manga is monthly, and it is mostly a tease of events to come. Latest one came out a few week ago so we should be due one soon.

But I would not be surprised if it stopped for the anime to "catch up" cause, hell, it is super far away already. It makes no sense to spoil the tv series like that for a spin off manga.

It's generally released around the 20th of each month.

Japan doesn't seem to care about spoilers though. The whole point of the manga is to stay ahead and showcase new content before the anime gets there.

It looks better, but the problem is that the whole episode is off and would need to be reanimated. They just fixed some of the jank.

So do we have permission to resume complaining about the terrible animation, or should we wait until the Blu-Rays come to America first?

There's only been maybe a handful of episodes that had decent animation so far anyway. Toei's work 20 years ago was a lot better with some exceptions.
