Fallout 4 PC Performance Thread

Is it possible for a mod to fix NPCs that act oddly walking in place into walls/chairs etc? Also getting a bug where Dogmeat gets stuck in doors when entering a building, have to walk about 50 meters away for him to warp to me.

I removed ENB but sadly the issue is the same. Maybe it's just the area I'm playing in but currently I can't play for more than 10 minutes without the game blue-screening my PC. Doubt it's an issue with my PC because I just finished 4 hours straight of MGS5 and Battlefront with no issue at all.

The blue-screens stopped after a clean Nvidia reinstall for anyone taking note. I get some weird C++ error pop-up when quitting the game now but no crashes in a 3+ hour session I just had.

What GPU are you running? G-Sync / Freesync monitor? I had this exact problem but it was opposite scenario, worked fine Borderless, unplayable in Full Screen.

You can workaround this problem by setting iPresentInterval=0 in Fallout4prefs.ini and cap the framerate with RivaTuna Statistics Server / nVidia Inspector / Crimson Framerate Target Control.

I'm running 980's in SLI (2 cards) on an ACER XB270HU 144hz G-Sync panel. I'll try that, see if it does anything

Yeah the game currently seems to be erroneously detecting G-Sync / Freesync ranges. It assumes the minimum refresh rate supported is your actual refresh rate? I dunno, but it's busted.

I found everything fine capping at 72fps, but the game is designed to never exceed 60, so there might be some issues from running higher than 60.

Nvidias last few driver releases seem to have made my 1500/8000 oc unstable on my 980 ti. Fallout 4 crashes quickly at those speeds, no problems a few weeks ago.

72fps is generally fine, the only issue it creates is that some bushes start shaking like mad when something happens like a nuclear storm.
Had one shaking so fast it left an afterimage.

I locked at 60 with gsync on, control panel vsync off and ipresentinterval=1
to avoid any issues in the background. my ini's are read only too.

Well, I got it working (so far at least) by capping it at 60 via RTSS and disabling ingame vsync.

It's a lot better than having to change my monitors refresh rate all the time.

Is there a way to speed up texture loading? It's very jarring when you fast travel somewhere, talk to someone and notice the ugly textures before they finally pop in.

Noticed this even with an SSD / i7 / 980ti. Definitely most noticeable right after fast traveling. Not sure if there's an INI tweak people are using to lessen it.

I'm not sure of the specific tweak, but there's 4 lines you can add to the Fallout4.ini to always have the highest resolution textures on objects. I can find tomorrow if still needed.

I spoke too soon on the slowdown/chugging being completely eliminated with the latest patch. While a lot of areas it has been reduced, some areas still have an excessive amount, including the main roadway around Trinity Plaza. Almost unplayable at times looking in certain directions.

EDIT: For clarification, the chugs happen all the same on both Vanilla and tweaked/modded Fallout for me.

Corvega is a lot better now, but yeah, there's still problem areas.

Corvega is improved for me as well.

Anyone else having performance problems in and around Trinity Plaza? The feeling of the performance drop is also worse than a normal 20+ FPS drop, it's notably more sluggish than the drops you would experience in Whiterun (Skyrim) before Bethesda released their CPU performance patch.

Are these it? Found it on nexusmods. I'm trying them out and it seems to work so far. I went to proctor ingram to test it and her armor texture was already loaded when I got there.

(goes under general in the documents fallout4.ini)
bForceUpdateDiffuseOnly=0
iTextureUpgradeDistance1=7500
iTextureUpgradeDistance0=5000
iTextureDegradeDistance1=7500
iTextureDegradeDistance0=5000

Any downsides apart from apparently increased loading times?

EDIT: Just tested. I'm on a 2GB card, so I got a lot of stuttering after fast travelling to Boston Airport because VRAM usage went up to around 2020mb, along with significantly longer load times. Did eliminate the texture pop-in on Dr Li when I ran over to her though.

Gtx 980ti Gaming

Game runs flawlesly at 60fps on my new XB281HK 4K monitor.
All on ultra, only AA is off.

But isn't ipresentinterval=0 needed to unlock the framerate to above > 60 and to enable Gsync?

Haven't touched that setting, and just reverified, mine is set to =1 and I'm running unlocked. Not sure if it doesn't apply to 144hz screens, or maybe =1 simply sets it to screenrefreshrate.

I don't believe you, unless you've only played the game for a couple hours and haven't yet visited the top of Corvega or traversed the area around Diamond City.

latest nvidia drivers apparently have at least partial SLI support, but Bethesda needs to change some things engine-side before any real SLI/Crossfire support can be implemented.

Setting it to =2 locks the game to half your refresh rate, setting it to =1 locks the game to your refresh rate, I think setting it to =0 unlocks the physics from framerate causing weird issues if you don't lock the framerate to your refresh or something like that?

I have used NVCP VSync | iPresentInterval=0 | iFPSClamp=60 on a 60hz monitor for about 30 hours of my playtime and never experienced anything weird besides Vaults and some terminal locked doors refusing to open until the Clamp setting is removed and I reload a save. I have since moved to just using the Clamp=60 and iPresentInterval=1 as it's the only way I can get the game to not appear jerky when moving around. Sometimes if I know most of my playtime is going to be in the dense city areas I will run 4k@30hz without a clamp setting because the slowdowns can be massive in certain areas.

Corvega and spots around Diamond City are rough, but most of the area around Goodneighbor, which Trinity Plaza is near, are by far the worst for me. There are spots where the game will actually freeze on a frame for several seconds, radio still playing in the background, before it slowly starts moving again.

Hmm. Been trying to play this on my laptop and unsurprisingly it's pretty poor. However when I looked at the prefs.ini in My Documents/My Games/Fallout 4 it said sD3DDevice="Intel(R) HD Graphics 4000". Now I have it in the Nvida CP to use my 650m with the Fallout.exe. Should'nt the sD3DDevice read Nvidia 650m? Or am I missing something?

Anyway i can know if its upscaling and not getting true 4k resolution?
I choosed the max resulotion in the settings.

Maybe check your resolution settings in the options?

1920 x 1080 = 1080p

3840 x 2160 = 4K

But surely you should know this stuff if you buy a 4K monitor right?

So there is SLI support for this game correct?

Yes. Nvidia's latest drivers added it. Works great.

Also.... DET showing off some power armor texture mods.

For some reason none of the enb binaries with ENBoost will work for me. I just upgraded my pc from a 1090t to a 4690k. I reinstalled windows, redownloaded fallout 4, and added ENBoost to my root folder but it doesn't work. It was working for me before. Any ideas?

Download this.

http://enbdev.com/mod_fallout4_v0285.htm

Open the file, and then open the "wrapper version" folder. Click and drag all the files to your main fallout 4 directory. Where fallout 4.exe is.

Then download this.

http://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/download/672

And open the folder and drag the ini file to your fallout 4 folder and replace it. It should work now.

Thanks for your help. Unfortunately I did these steps and it still doesn't work. I tried deleting the files in the fallout 4 folder and verifying game files in steam. Then I reinstalled the files for ENBoost plus binaries and still nothing. Is this comparable with the new fallout 4 beta?

True :), was thinking maybe I got a bug or something that changes the resolution.

Did the new beta patch help performance any? I uninstalled the last one because it broke a big chunk of my mods.

I just uninstalled it. I had gameplay where my fps would be 10-15fps then benny hill style catch back up to 60fps. In places where there normally isn't any hangups either. Only time I've ever had it happen was with the latest beta.
