Witcher 3 Wins GOTY @ The Game Awards 2015!

Oh man, I genuinely loved the gameplay. It felt like a natural evolution for the types of games ND makes, even though it is pretty different at the same time. I think I appreciated the more intimate encounters. It's really the only reason I'm looking forward to Uncharted 4, as I've never been a big fan of those games.

I actually made a LTTP thread for Last of Us a couple of weeks ago. I definitely felt the gameplay wasn't anything special. Crafting system was nice and added to it but the actual shooting wasn't fun for me not all the sneaking around while pretending to be a stealth game.

I personally find that GOTY more than deserved.

It is only the third game CD Projeckt has ever developed, and yet it can go head to head with franchise like MGS or Fallout. And come on top. This is amazing.

W3 soundtrack fucking destroy mgs 5, but i guess mgs5 won because of the licensed music.
Undertale have a good soundtrack too.

Well, I have only played it once . I plan on playing the Remastered version early next year, so my opinion could change.

Bloodborne's soundtrack is by far the best one of 2015. It was a shame it wasn't nominated. There are some truly incredible tracks in the game.

I think it was best when it focused on horror. The clickers were great, I like the fight with David etc. But a
lot of the other scenarios weren't very interesting. I dont think its stealth and shooting mechanics were up there with the best at all.

Clearly In the minority, but a very overrated game IMO. If you stripped it of any mediocre elements you'd be left with a very pretty telltale game - there's lots tedious clunky combat and repetitive quests.

Not a bad game, but still felt disappointing to me.

Agreed, V's soundtrack is forgettable, even Portable Ops is much better.

But I'm glad TW3 won game of the year, such an incredible game and well deserved.

....Telltale's games aren't even in the same genre.

I went from not buying this game to maybe considering it. It's still on sale on Xbox live, so I need to do some research before it's over.

Yeah I dont understand V winning over The Witcher or Ori (or Halo 5). Escaping the Ginso Tree alone should have locked that award up.

Seriously, this. Ori's emotional beats are led primarily by its music. I haven't finished Witcher 3, but I can't say that's true for anything else on this list (aside from Halo 5's opening which is badass as shit, but it's just the opening).

Best music award for MGSV was not good choice while we haveOri and the Blind Forest and The Witcher 3.

If I'm honest I don't really remember much about the music from MGSV other than the licensed tracks(which I ended up using original music like Dragon Sound's Friends anyways). Sins of the Father and Nuclear were pretty great though. Alternatively, I loved Ori's soundtrack and fucking adored Witcher 3's Ambient Music and pretty much every other track as well. I put that soundtrack on as background music all the time at work.

Oh yeah. It's all very very good and adds a lot to the atmosphere.

Congrats to CDPR. I personally hated the combat, and have a relationship with RPGs where I either love them or hate them. In this case I didn't like it but I could see they'd done good stuff.

If you stripped Bloodborne of its elements you'd be left with a black screen.

Am I doing it rite?

Well deserved. The game this year I had the most fun with, felt like I had completed an epic journey and a real complete package. Can't wait for the next expansion.

I understand Witcher 3 winning, but I think MH4U was the most robbed game of the night, it's the only game on there that is a handheld console instead of mobile. Even though I know some people can't get used to the game, but I find it a game with such strong gameplay mechanics (honestly it's the only thing people play the games for, the story isn't much and the graphics are from generations ago).

Best Mobile/Handheld Game
Downwell
Fallout Shelter
WINNER: Lara Croft Go
Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate
Pac-Man 256

Monster Hunter 4 has even less appeal to the average gamer in the west than Bloodborne.

Not to say those games aren't both very successful, because they have been.

My GOTY honestly flicks between The Witcher 3 and Bloodborne so I'm happy with the news. It definitely deserves recognition for not only being such an amazing game but also the goodwill shown on CDPR's part towards it's consumers. Would like to think it's an example that others will follow.

Are you seeing the other games on the list? Im playing Lara Croft Go and its pretty cool, but I doubt its better than MH in any way.

Beyond the games I've played and love, Splatoon (which I do not own) is the most feelgood award winner. It really is the freshest and coolest take on shooters in years. NinjaEdit: Whoops thoughts this was the TGA thread. Just pretend this comment isn't here.

Geralt's theme is god-tier music, bringing everything the franchise is together into one song. Incredible stuff.

Totally agree. I adore Monster Hunter, but I'm not surprised in the slightest that it didn't take the award. I can't imagine many game journalists even gave it a shot.

Yea I know it basically is aimed at a japanese audience, the only game on that list I'm unfamiliar with is Downwell, but in the time you can beat the other games, players barely even scratch the surface of Monster Hunter. It's a shame that it is rather niche.

One of my favourite games ever, I enjoyed every second I spent in the world.

I wasn't a huge W2 fan so had tempered expectations going into W3 but was utterly blown away.

The only open world game that I've played this year that I've liked was TW3. I'm not a fan whatsoever of Fallout, MGSV, Arkham Knight, etc. What those games attempt to and what The Witcher 3 attempts to deliver are not at all the same. There are open world games with great review scores and there are open world games with bad ones.

See here is the confusion.

I don't have a problem with you, your argument makes perfect sense and if you track my posts back, you'll see I'm essentially saying the same thing.

Where I have a problem is people who praise something like Skyrim for the open world and tell me it is the best thing ever. Then they play TW3 which has everything Skyrim has, in terms of open world and endless exploration, but it has game bits as well.

And then you ask, "so is Skyrim really not that good by comparison?" and they say "no" because all they want is the open world bit and the game bits are irrelevant. Both are hence "amazing" in their eyes. In this way, TW3 is being enjoyed in exactly the same way.

And nobody has argued against this yet. That fundamentally TW3 can be enjoyed just as a big empty open world explorathon. Heck just compare it with TW2. What is the difference really beyond the size of the world? 3 is pretty much the same thing over a huge scale. I think if TW3 didn't have the huge world, it wouldn't have got the GOTY award. I also think it would have been just as strong of a game, because I don't think the big world adds anything.

Ultimately this is why I don't think it is a great game of the year, because the mass market appeal is not the actual game bits. I wish people did enjoy it for picking the right oils and carefully tracking down their hunt, much the same as I enjoy Bloodborne and much the same way you and the other people complaining enjoy TW3. But I feel the reality is people just want to walk off and look at stuff and this is the majority of gamers today.

Video Games aren't a zero sum game. You can enjoy and appreciate the same types of games for very different reasons and it's more than a valid experience. I thought Super Mario Bros. 3 was better than Super Mario Bros. Doesn't mean I like Super Mario Bros. any less.

Alternatively, is Dark Souls really that good by comparison to Bloodborne?

I still have to play this and Fallout 4. From what i'm reading The Witcher 3 sounds like the best of the bunch.

As someone who played good amount of both

I would say Witcher 3 is one of the best games ever made with incredibly well crafted narrative and quests/sidequests, while Fallout 4 is fun borderlandsy atmospheric shooter with RPG elements, but nowhere near GOTY material and a step down from New Vegas in some important aspects. Although shooting has been significantly improved.

Both games are fun, but only one is GOAT.

As someone who wasn't wild about the soundtracks of the other Souls games, I agree. Bloodborne really stepped it up with some beautiful compositions.

Witcher 3 I would still say has the best original soundtrack of the year, especially with the sheer number of tracks, and Life is Strange has the best licensed soundtrack (although its original pieces are really good too).
