Fan Favorite PS2 Games Launching on PS4 Tomorrow

Rogue Galaxy
Dark Cloud 1 and 2
Final Fantasy XII
Mark of Kri
Ghost Hunter
Primal
Okage: The Shadow King
War of the Monsters

Are the games that I already own on my PS2, but wanted more than anything to be able to play them on my PS4. Four of the 8 games are now available for me to play on my PS4. I truly hope the others show up as well. Many of them I never got to complete.

Their launch rollout is pretty damn good. The PS2 has one of the best software lineups of all time. I'd love to be able to play more classics on my PS4, which is now my primary console.

I thought Dark Cloud 2 and Ape Escape where only rated by PEGI. When did ESRB rate them?

I guess chances are also very slim that PS2 Classics save files (i.e. PS2 "virtual memory cards") will be usable on these PS4 versions?
Btw. do these games have a specific name other than "PS2 games on PS4"?

$15 and no real stand outs like an SMT, FF, DMC, MGS, KH etc.?

Boo.

Would've thought they would go the Battlefront 2/other Star Wars solo route if they have been emulating Starwars games already.

why bother emulating when you can just charge ridiculous prices

:( fuck

this just reminded me that sony STILL has not refunded my double charged PS4 repair after 2 months.... Fuck.

Would love to play the GTA games on PS4, but I'm not buying any PS2 Classic twice. A discount would be nice for previous owners, but I guess even that's too much to ask.

They really could've picked up a lot of good will by doing this right (aka how they've always done classics). It's unfortunate that they decided to go this route instead.

Price is a joke... None supported Classics is even worse of a joke. This turned sour quickly. Will only buy Ape Escape 2 because it's one of my favourite series otherwise I'm not interested anymore.

I'm really excited for this. Hopefully lots of cool stuff that I used to play will show up eventually, and trophy support is always a plus.

Ghosthunter is so fun. Before the Ghostbusters game came out, Ghosthunter was the closest we had to a Ghostbusters game. The gameplay mechanics were good, the story was interesting, and the lead was voiced by Rob Paulsen, and I couldn't unhear Raphael's voice while playing the game (not a complaint). It's such a hidden gem.

I'd also love it if Konami got their heads out of their asses and gave us Shadow of Destiny as a PS2 Classic for PS4. Such an awesome game, with a great premise.

Yeah I seen vids of it looks awesome.

Surprise no one mention God Hand yet.

Huge fan of this feature (especially with trophies!)

Not a fan of the price.

BUT, looking forward to a few of these being included each month with PS+ :-)

I was just thinking; where can you buy unopened PS2 games?

Because I can't think of to many places. So for me, if I don't own it already, $15 is pretty good.

15€

From the blog...

We have brought these titles forward to meet today’s gaming standards by adding Trophy support! Each title’s Trophy set has been carefully developed in conjunction with feedback from the original creators to be sure that they capture the spirit and feeling of each game.

Also, you will be able to experience all of these PS2 games like never before — in up-rendered 1080p with the features you expect from a PS4 game including Remote Play, Live Broadcast, Share Play, Activity Feeds, and Second Screen support for game manuals with PlayStation Vita or PlayStation App.

1080p PS2 games? Might be worth to pick up Rogue Galaxy then.

If you are willing to buy lightly used, they are absolutely everywhere and for insanely cheap prices with the exception of limited run prints and ATLUS games.

This was back in 2007...

That was 8 years ago. It can't be that much now.

But the PS1 emulation was 100% SOFTWARE.

It was software on the PSP. It was software on the Vita. It was software on the PS3. That's why it worked fine when the EE chip was pulled out.

They can port it easily.

I wonder how expensive it would be to build a PS4 that has full disc based BC across PS1/PS2/PS3 games. Some sort of Playstation legacy console.

I'm OK with this. With trophy support and 1080p, $10-15 is too much for some games yet fine for others. I'm sure there will be discounts, free games for PS+ etc. A discount for PS2 Classics owners should be the way it's done, but original discs was always a pipe dream. *I can understand why Sony wouldn't want people putting 15 year old PS2 discs in their PS4.

Pricing at least seems in line with PS2 classics pricing, but the lack of incentives for purchasers of PS2 classic versions of these games is seriously shitty. Glad I never invested in PS2 classics in any real way. I'll still be hacked off if there's a PS4 port of Suikoden 3 though.

Why did they even use the word 'emulation' regarding this scheme when they're clearly ports rather than emulated software? Sigh...

This is also what annoys me. If they're trying to sell these games on the back of trophies than certain games that would have had standard PS2 Classics without trophy integration may not be released on PS4.

Suikoden 3 for example is an available PS2 Classic. Do you think Konami will go back and add trophies in order for a PS4 release? What about Suikoden 4-5?
