Fan Favorite PS2 Games Launching on PS4 Tomorrow

I'm much more concerned with the release of ps2 games than the price to be honest.
If they really put some effort into these things(and so far they basically seem like small scale hd remasters, which is fine.) they will probably drip feed these à la Nintendo VC.
Looking at the handful of games they launch this with doesn't fill me with confidence that I'll get the games I want in a timely manner.

I wonder whether Sony or MS are going to be first to get Rez available on their current console.

The disappointment of no disc support, and Sony's awful decision to abandon their precedent for digital purchases being hardware agnostic where feasible, would be a little easier to swallow if games were a little cheaper, or even had something like a blanket 25% off for PS+ subscribers, or a launch discount.

The entire announcement has been kind of mismanaged, too. The Star Wars games muddied the water, and Sony left people loads of time to speculate over the possibilities, getting their hopes up.

Prices are too high and no upgrade path for people who've bought the Classics versions on the PS3. Trophies and 1080p are nice, but these are bad, bad decisions.
I don't think it is, People are going to pay for 1080p and trophies. I think the games they have so far are pretty good too. The mark of Kri is mine,

I think the GTA's and the Jrpg's will sell quite well for those guys who want to 100 percent those. Come on Sony, Give me....

Rygar
Lament of Innocence
Valkyrie Profile 2
Onimusha's 1-4
Blood Will Tell
Shadow of Rome

If they do the Silent Hill's, it's over...

I'm clearly in that minority that's actually excited for this. ._.

While I'm not excited for any of the current games on offer, I'm excited for its potential. Trophies and remote play for PS2 games sounds pretty cool. I'd love for Persona 3 and the Gungrave games to eventually be added.

So technically, are these games not running via emulation?

To me, from the price and the fact that PS2 classics and discs don't run,
it seems like a PS2 remaster collection rather than "emulation".

I'm also wondering if PS1 emulation is coming.
And if all those PS1 classics I bought would run on PS4 if it is coming.
But looking at the current situation of PS2 games on PS4, I guess I'll have to repurchase all of them too.

Honestly, PSP ran PS1 classics, thus theres no reason PS4 can't do it. Unless Sony "won't" do it.

Me Too I guess. I think that price is totally fine.

Since Tomorrow isn't a normal store update day, any idea on when these will go up?

In the EU, they're timed to go up at 20:00GMT, which we can conclude is the time the conference ends. United States is probably the same.

Pretty much my fear as well. Their launching with such a small number of games doesn't really do much to assuage it either.

Well I'm excited. I had a PS2. I had over 100 games for it. I sold all that shit. When a game comes around for 10-15 bucks that was one of my favorites, like Ridge Racer V or Gradius V or Gitraoo Man or any SNK game or whatever, I'll buy it. I'll unlock some fucking trophies and have a good time.

yes.

some will have platinums, we don't know which though

I think there's a high chance that those that cost $15 will have platinums, while those that are $10 may nott. There's a mobile port of San Andreas for ps3 that has the platinum and it'd be weird to have 2 SA versions - one with a plat and one without. And all RPGS should have a platinum trophy :P.

Launch selection is pretty good.
Waiting for hands on on Rogue Galaxy and Mark of Cri.
But I'm waiting for some japanese third party love, japanese developers were the soul of the PS2.
We need games from Capcom, Konami and other publishers that truly shined back then.

It would be hironic if Silent Hill 2 as a classic was the definitive version of the game instead of the HD Collection for PS3 :D
Price is what I feared/expected ranging from 10$ to 15$ for top titles.

Trophies are a selling point of these, and on twitter, yosp said some will have platninums

I hate making blanket statements, but trophies are in no way shape or form worth abandong a library of digital games built over the last decade. (If this truly ends up being the case)

Also, cool thanks. Not having any platinums seemed like a waste.

Technically these games are absolutely being emulated with emulator container for each game ala PS2 classics on PS3. This is where the upres is coming from, they haven't done jack shit with textures or anything else in game. Trophies are coming from their tech to detect memory state changes in the emulator based on their rule set which yes, they do have to customize for each game.

If you are repurchasing PS2 classics AGAIN on PS4 after purchasing them on PS3, I am sorry, but you are a fool.

Down for buying Rogue Galaxy, I never finished it on PS2 and it was one of my favorites. Not sure if I'd still like it as much today. Never played Dark Cloud, is it any good?

Considering the implementation, what are the chances of a fixed 60 fps?

Unless you're interested in the trophies, then you're paying for trophies.

You are paying $15 for detection of memory state in the emulator... That's just instane. Of course if this is what people are thinking it's clear why Sony would do that, but man, that's just....

If you bought any hd collection if you already owned them on the PS2 you are a full /s

The amount of times I've seen ppl post they would double, even triple dip........

Ehh, no idea, depends on the game since if FPS is tied to game logic/animation, it would screw stuff up. See PCSX2 essentially for whatever game you are thinking and the state of emulation there, should at least give you a general idea of things.

There is a difference. Quite a few HD collections (say Uncharted Collection or Last of Us) had a lot of work done on them. I can see paying money for that. This is literally same shit running on a newer emulator with more powerful hardware.

15 bucks for PS2 games is fucking nuts.

I mean, I knew they weren't going to let you play what you already owned, but the price point should be 9.99 or lower.

Wait aren't some of them 9.99? I'm pretty sure they won't all be 14.99 still would like to know why the difference in the price points. What are the requirements for a game to have the full 14.99 price.

I would pay $60 for NFL Street 2.

It's upsetting that'll it'll probably never happen since it seems like such a selective process, though, correct? :(

I do feel like 10 years ago I'd care more, but now I really don't. I've played through these games already. The only new thing here for me would be trophies. Is that worth the money? Eh, not really. Not for me anyway. But for a handful of titles, sure.

There are quite a few people who actually like replaying older games. This is not a correct argument. I can even see Sony charging an upgrade price, but just outright to say f-you, but same exact game again (all changes are emulator side) is BS.

I was one of the people. I kept all my original consoles though. I still have my DC and around 70 games. I honestly don't remember the last time I hooked it up. Probably five years ago.

I guess, for me, if you're big into classics, then BC is really about the convenience of not hooking up your PS2, because you already have the game, but if you already have the game, and you're really into the games, you more than likely have your PS2 hooked up.

Don't get me wrong, I would like the option, who wouldn't? But, if I had to choose between playing the same game but on PS4, or a prettier version of the game with trophies--with a premium fee attached to it, I would pay the fee.
