I absolutely agree. 1 and 4 are the places to start. 3 is super slow. 4 gives you multiple new characters to play as so it's easier to catch what's going on.

I have Yakuza 1, 3, and 4. I have not played any of them due to backlog. But I'm pre-ordering Yakuza 5 now for the discount and to show support. I think I'm making 2016 Yakuza year for me.

saejima and akiyama return from Y4, if you remember their arcs you should be alright.

i greatly enjoyed my run of these games just doing all the side-quests i ran into, i didn't 100% any of the games, but there's a lot of charm to see that you'll miss out on if you just machinegun through the plot
