Final Fantasy 7 Remake: Chunk 1 (CyberConnect2, UE4) Trailer, "PS4 Console Debut"

I'm starting to feel like the 20 years of people claiming FFVII is the best game they've ever played are all in my head or something, when we have self proclaimed huge fans bending over backwards to brag about how much they hated the hours and hours of time they put into beating the original.
seriously. shit is nuts

I just beat the game again last year and absolutely adored it.

I think the litmus test to whether this game will be ass or great is if Genesis appears in this game. And how much he appears in the game.

I wouldn't be one for exclusives. I can usually wait for a game to come to my platform or come down in price, but I can easily see
Myself buying a ps4 just to play this early

I'm giddy just thinking about how the Weapons will look. And Costa Del Sol, Wutai, Icicle Inn, Junon, the Seventh Heaven... so many iconic locales.

I'm most excited for some of the non-Midgard locations. I loved the feel of some of the towns in the original.

The fact that you add how much he is in this game leads me to think you want him in the game. Any mention of Genesis should be considered a failure.

Yup. All over everything.

Yeah, I'm pausing frame by frame, literally, to find random shit.

Versus' gameplay reborn!

Love-love-love Barret's redesign, he looks amazing. (Yay for hearing Beau Billingslea and Steve Burton!)

My literal only complaint is that Cloud's head looks proportional, but his chest/arms do not. He looks slightly emaciated. Even Zack wasn't that slim in CC, so he didn't look qutie as silly with the Buster sword.
(Cloud being a bit slim would make plot sense at that point, but I doubt they're going to re-bulk him up later!)

Yeah, I'm pausing frame by frame, literally, to find random shit.

Cloud's boots are so beautiful. I never thought I'd be excited for remade boots.

That moment were we realize nobody really liked jrpg back then and everyone is so happy they remake jrpg in action game now!

I love it.

"OMG hey are remaking my fav game ever omg!! AND they are completely changing the core of its horrible gameplay! That's even better!!" Something is wrong somewhere.

But anyway it looks great i'm kinda hyped now.. At least i guess they'll keep the materias right ?

That part where they were fighting near the fountain reminded me a lot of The Bouncer actually.

Which makes me happy for some reason.

I'm still mad that The Bouncer ended up the way it did, it had loads of potential.

awesome. nomura seems to try to do what he wanted to do in versus.

its lighting seems different from UE4's, very close to Luminous studios. interesting

Watching that Kitase interview, they really seem to be emphasizing the PS4's graphical power to achieve these types of visuals. Could this really be console exclusive to Sony after all?

I'm in the same boat.

I'm more scared that they'll drop Genesis or Deep Ground in the game somewhere, now that will make me throw Bitch Fit Fest 2016.

But so far everything in regards to the original scenario has been incredibly faithful, even down to small insignificant shit like Cloud flipping off the train.

Good thing about the Genesis bullshit is that they just kinda slotted him in to the original plot, but didn't actually retcon anything. I think I remember one scene where he literally walks on screen or something right after the scene in the original ended. So in that regard they can just continue to act like he never existed.

Hurrah!

LOL

Nomura's love for Roen knows no bounds.

Did he sneak this in or something?

EDIT: Actually, it's slightly different. They probably took it and edited portions. Still, it's a bit weird.

Exactly it's still great.

I do not understand why some people want the same thing, but just prettier. Considering some of the images people have posted, there isn't even a consensus on what the definition of "prettier" should be.

Stop speaking in absolutes with this "vast majority" stuff. We don't know that because all we have to go on are biased polls.

And I'll say it again, how is the sheer amount of materia actions going to work with a frantic battle system. You can't be scrolling through them and you sure as hell can't map them to face buttons.

I think the biggest casualty will be Enemy Skill. I'm assuming a lot of Command//Support Materia will be gone and replaced by Character Abilities/Traits and Independent Materia as equip bonuses.

I can see All disappearing and the FFVII Spell names being changed from Fire,II,III to Fire and Firaga for AoE, Cure and Curaga, etc. No tiers and instead scaling with stats/levels.

like so many have already pointed out, if you supposedly loved VII but hated its gameplay, or "shit battle system" something is wrong there.

What's most striking to me is its seem they not goes open-world

just seemingly interconnected hub

Well i mean, all we've seen is midgar so far and that's pretty much what it was. I'm looking forward to see how actually the open part of the world will work (will it be something like FFXV or oldschool ff7 overworld)

So gameplay is probably what you really wanted to know about since the game’s announcement. The new trailer gave you a glimpse into how Final Fantasy VII Remake will play and you’re probably thinking that it has changed quite a bit. It definitely looks more action oriented and has a real feeling of speed. There’s a lot going on in the trailer so hopefully you managed to pick out all of the details.
I should point out that all of the footage shown of Final Fantasy VII Remake is work in progress footage so the final game may look slightly different to what you saw. Oh, and I’m sure you recognize it but the music featured in the trailer is the “Opening — Bombing Mission” from Distant Worlds: music from Final Fantasy.

We've literally only seen the first arc of FFVII, which is set in one sector in Midgar... the original game is extremely linear up until you reach Shinra HQ (and it becomes even further explorable once you leave Midgar, obviously).

Is it just a coincidence or does the combat feel significantly more laggy than the rest? I thought maybe the vid was still buffering, but this isn't the case.

Anyhow, never played the original FF7 so I'm kinda interested, but it seems like a huge departed from (what I assumed) the old turn-based combat?

To me, that would be the ideal solution. Otherwise, it's going to be impossible to juggle between spells and items and attacks. Hell, trying to get the right spell/item used in a critical time during ATB can be tricky at times. Real-time would be hell in those situations.

Unless it's automated combat. As, you choose attack and he goes running the the nearest opponent doing his shit. Maybe you can have a limited control over him, but it's mostly him doing what he wants.

The combet looks like shit. No limit breaks, no materia system probably either. I don't mind real time if the game was meant to be that way, but they could have made it turn based while still keeping real time elements.

like so many have already pointed out, if you supposedly loved VII but hated its gameplay, or "shit battle system" something is wrong there.
The originals combat system was just "okay". Maybe if there was some regular difficulty that forced people to strategise more than stacking attack and a few materia combos I'd like it more, but as it stands it's just serviceable.

Where the fuck did this come from? I expected to hear and see nothing on the game until at earliest maybe the end of 2016. Looks great so far, like some have said if this is Versus XIII in spirit when it comes to gameplay I'll fucking love it, although a part of me hopes this doesn't merely turn into that because I still want it to be VII and have its own identity alongside the original.

I would probably calm down. :P

I want to show this to my moron of a brother tomorrow, punk-ass acts like he ain't a nerd but then he watches through all 200+ eps. of DBZ with the nerdiest smile on his face :V
And if I'm gonna show it to him I wan thim to see it in all 60 FPS glory.

None of us have played this new combat system or seen what kind of encounters they have planned. It could be amazing. I prefer to wait and see.

I just flat out disagree that the combat system employed in the original was what caused it to be successful, was what people remember the most about the game, and is what must absolutely be preserved in this remake in order for it not to be completely different. I think that's completely wrong. As you say, it was pretty barebones and nothing special. It was fine, of course, but even at the time people were complaining about how it was kind of dumbed down compared to other JRPGs.

Everyone I've nostalgia'd out over the game with talks about how much they love the world, music and COMBAT. It may not be important to you, but it definitely was to some people.

I know, right? It's like I'm taking crazy pills.

RPGs aren';t just there combat systems, and you can love a game for more than it's combat systems.

Please understand.

FF7 is my favorite FF, but it's combat system is really not anything to right home about.

Deus Ex is also one of my favorite games, but it's gun play is shit.

I love Vampire The Masquerade Bloodlines, does it have good gameplay, fuck no.
