I'm assuming you're talking about Y5, but this is the first I've heard of it. I played 4 on digital download and ran into no problems at all.

Yeah Y4 was my entry into the franchise and picked it up when it was on sale sometime earlier this year.

I had absolutely no issue playing and beating the digital version of Y4. No performance problems at all.

I hope this works for both our sakes, because I'm in the same position and I don't want to have to buy a new hdd for a single game.

Yes, Yakuza 5. The issue was released on December 2nd. They were especially complaining about the textures.

i greatly enjoyed my run of these games just doing all the side-quests i ran into, i didn't 100% any of the games, but there's a lot of charm to see that you'll miss out on if you just machinegun through the plot

I'll definitely play the side content. One thing I will skip, though, is the recaps of the past games. I want to play Y2 someday - hopefully it will be released as a PS2 Classic or maybe I'll just break down and get my PS2 out of whatever box it's in. Maybe I'll watch the Y1 recap since I got to the very end of that game before my Phattie died.

yeah definitely do NOT watch the Y2 recap as it's an isolated story with no bearing on the later entries and it will ruin the best game in the series for you.
 
like what issues with the textures? I know upon stopping at some of the areas, they weren't the prettiest, but that comes with the territory with these games.
 
This is dropping the week before finals for me... If I can be strong and ignore it for 2 weeks, I'm going to have a really nice winter break.

Not really. 4 was kind of a new story for the series with the introduction of several new characters, 5 more or less continues on from that point.

If you played Yakuza 4 then you will be ready. In fact a lot of the background story of Yakuza 4 predates Yakuza Zero by two years.

Explaining how Majima lost his eye for example.

4 is a good starting point, Zero is the very beginning of everything for Kiryu kind of, but there really is no reason to hold off on playing 5. I mean the Western audience waited long enough as it is already.
 
I really hope they let us pre-load the game. Man, Tuesday can't come soon enough :)

I can't believe the page in Australia hasn't been updated.

I almost think its not coming anymore. Which is fine because I'll just get the US one, but I did want to support the Yakuza cause in Australia. I'll give them one more day before preordering the US one.
 
FINALLY!
Will download it on release although I think I wait untilI return from my holiday trip before I actually sit down and play it.

Looks like Y5 will be the first game I complete in 2016 :D

There's no preorder for regions using the EU storefront. There will be a 15% discount during launch week.

But only with PS Plus and I don't have PS Plus...

so if there's any others in the same boat - you need to get the US version to get the discount. At US$33 - even with the crappy exchange rate, its a decent deal.

US discount is preorder only.

I haven't found anything to suggest that the discount is PS Plus only.
This IGN article is the only source on the launch discount for Europe I could find and it doesn't say that the discount would be PS Plus only.
 
Never played a Yakuza game before. Where would be a good place to start? The new 0 game? or is each title separate stories and you don't need to play them?

Just wanted to come back and say that XCX has been pretty underwhelming for me, so I'll be shelving it to run through Yakuza instead. :)

Found this on IGN (i think there was a GAF thread about it too)

The company has announced the digital promotion will only run for a limited time surrounding the game's launch, meaning it'll cost £29.99 / €39.99. It wasn't announced when the deal will expire.

So that means it should be around £25.50/34 Euros for launch week.

Each game is technically a separate story, however some games do take previous characters/plot points and build on them.

0 is a prequel to the first game, so its technically a decent start point in that regard if you don't mind waiting a year or so for it to be released in English.

1 is technically the best start point in my opinion as it introduces you properly to all the characters.

4 is the next best start point really since it introduces a fresh set of characters and requires less knowledge of the previous characters/plot to get the most out of the game.

I've had the 44GB of space set aside for months now. And I could probably just go ahead and delete FFXIV if necessary as well. I'm ready. Let's do this.
 
22GB download is going to be painful as hell, though. Biggest digital game I've downloaded up to now is Sengoku Basara 4 at 16.5GB. And that took a good while. Y5 is going to take all damn day.

Wait, did I buy the theme or was that for pre-ordering? It's nice either way.

Not long now. Hope it works with a Dualshock 4 (Y3 and 4 did iirc), really don't wanna go back.
