PSX: King of Fighters 14 Trailer - "PS4 Console Exclusive"

Really? I'm sad she's not in her either but is the lack of her inclusion really the make or break for you?

I'm tired of her getting the shaft. :(

I was irritated that she wasn't in KOFXIII but I still bought it because the game was gorgeous, and I figured "surely they'll add her as DLC down the road"... they didn't.

This game is far from looking pretty, and I lost faith that they'll add my girl in later if she's not in the initial roster.

I dont think its smart for KOF to be console exclusive. It isnt as big as SF. I hope they turn a profit though. They really need to keep working the graphics. After the beautiful KOF13 this is looking pretty bland and ulgy.

Havent you heard? This game has 50 characters terrible graphics are perfectly acceptable

KOF 2K2 UM had 60 or so. I could be wrong.

What about Smash Bros. for 3DS & Wii U? right now they just hit 56 characters.

Dude, Tekken Tag 2 got 59.

True, but those didn't recreate their roster from scratch...
The last KoF had big ass sprites, and the last 3D KoF was on PS2.
They have no other choice but to keep the level of graphics to PS2 standards, ether in order to port characters from the Maximum Impact games more easily, or to recreate the entire cast.

It actually could be the better business decision, most of the sales they're expecting are from Asia, where X1 isn't a viable option, if they're making X1 port, it would be for NA and UK only. Considering how low the game's sales are, that'd probably just end up being a waste of resources. The other region where KoF is popular is SA, and PC is way more popular there than X1.

Tbf like people have been saying SNK just has too many good characters. This roster is one of their biggest and it's pretty good imo and there's still tons of characters who aren't in it. Her being put in would've been at the expense of another great who was someone elses favorite not being put in.

Looking at this list there isn't anyone i'd remove. Half of them are staples, we got a bunch of new characters, who (and I don't say this lightly) I prefer over older ones because I love SNK character designs so I'm curious what they come up with. Plus we got a lot of old fan favorites coming back like, Geese, Tizoc, Angel, Ramon etc... Honestly this roster is pretty beast. It's bit dissappointing that people are shitting on it just because 1 or 2 of their favorite characters didn't get in.

Yeah, East Asia and South America, is kofs biggest markets. And Xbone is nonexistent there.

Am I allowed to say I like what I see? lol

The UI looks very clean, love it. The gameplay seems good ol' KoF. I hope the game is actually good!

I have to agree. Ironically, this could be the final push into me getting a PS4. Looks like fun. I remember KoF XII was coming out, I saw a few random Gametrailers and YouTube comments saying "Eww, looks like Super Nintendo game." Now I feel people will pass on this because it looks too much like a PS2 game to them. Really hoping the fact that it's got 3D graphics and easy gameplay will attract some new fans.

I'm just glad there's no Falcoon influence like the MI games.

No you are not. How dare you post something positive admist these shitty graphics?!

Don't worry I'll fix this. I got negative things to say.

Really unhappy about the Rush mode combos. I am more concerned about them starting from a jab than anything else. I really hope this doesn't end up a game where people just mash jab hoping to catch you with it and get a full conversion. Really seems out of place in KOF.

I am all for accessibility but it's not unreasonable to just expect the player to learn short bnbs now that the combos are shorter overall.

Besides this the game looks dope. Can't wait to see Geese :-D

I hope the graphic talk dies before the OT is made, or there might as well not be one.

If normals are not doing enough damage to make the opponent think on their approach with hops, but this does instead, then I would welcome it.

I'm wondering if that rush combo thing is also going to do less damage, like a 30-40% damage reduction due to not doing it. Something like that to make sure people don't use it if they know what they're doing.

Just thought if the auto combo is a button press how will they work in character moves like joe's rapid punch?

Seems like it's a specific unique combo that can work off of anything that links into jab.

So for example Kyos light kick chains into jab, his normal bnb is normally rekka from that. Instead you can mash jab and get a unique combo and can end with an automatic super.

The EX moves of XIII were great, I loved how many of them were Mini DMs, or throwbacks to old "move bloat" specials that seemed redundant on their own. The doubled the characters move list effectively, and in a meaningful way.

I haven't seen enough of the new EX's to say if I like their design of them in this game yet. I saw Andy throw a different looking projectile, but it didn't contact. Leona did her EX Baltic launcher, but... it didn't have a different start-up motion or a different looking projectile.

I'd love to see Leona's Earring Bakudan turn into her old Heart attack Attack grapple for an EX, for example. Meaningful EX moves are a part of moveset design that gets easily glossed over in character discussion.

Eh, almost every modern fighter (especially from companies like ASW and French Bread) has auto combos on a button now. They... never seem to change high level play much. If anything, at times, they seem to act like a new special move, especially if they're made of normal or modified specials that can't be accessed / used in those specific ways.

It's always too much to ask the players to learn the bare minimum before playing, lol. KoF XIII might be a "combo game', but a lot of that comes out of min / maxing. Use of the great EX moves also allowed for easy extensions and openings for just doing 1 move with 2 buttons rather than 1, and the variety of ways to spend meter allowed similar results for varying levels of complexity. But most will just talk about HD-Cancel combos, as if they were the only branch, because they saw advanced players do it.

I hope the graphic talk dies before the OT is made, or there might as well not be one.

It's going to be a constant at this point. If the graphics change or get updated, that'll shift conversation, but not much will change for the game's lifetime, if they purely stay as they look now.

I dunno if they care in that same way. Depending on how they're done, and what they entail (such as having new normal snuck into them), the only reason to not use them might be because they have very specific hit ranges / force you to waste meter when you might not want to. I know I saw a few unusual normal moves (Leona had a turned around jab after a first, Kyo did 2 close range roundhouse kicks before canceling into a super, etc), and if those are Auto-Only moves, they might be trying to expand the normal variety through these combos, not just presenting them as a pure stopgap learning crutch.

Just thought if the auto combo is a button press how will they work in character moves like joe's rapid punch?

He could have the move turned into a qcf motion (which has happened quite a lot for mashes lately, from Hwa's version in XIII, to Chun Li's legs in SFV.) Of his auto-combo could even turned into a continuation after his Bakuretsuken, making the weak version a combo starter now.

I don't really care much about neogaf conversations, but I don't want to deal with that same conversation at locals. Hearing it after the few months, would be like hearing issues about that trouble sibling through gossip. Just a personal preference.

All in all, I'm liking what I'm reading and what I've heard, mechanics-wise. If they're able to continue fine-tuning those graphics into next year, even better.

Some companies should stick to 2D, even if it has to be low res 2D.

KOF95 looks better than this shit.

I think this is the worst looking fighting game of the last few years. The art style and graphics are just terrible. i really liked KOFXIII...this is just awful. id rather less characters with greater attention to detail.

uh, I'll take gameplay in a fighter

Totally understandable. But that just might be the price we have to pay for the cast size, lol.

We'll see how it works out. One thing I like from these past 2 days is that they seem eager to communicate, and to hear out opinions. At least more so than normal. This could lead to some good things, hopefully.

Kyo's Climax DM: https://twitter.com/KingsofCO/status/673595039432355840 - It's the same as Saisyu's DM. Also, it is a popular DM for many mugen kyo's.

A match that shows Kyo's new rekka follow up. He can hit low like Heavy D, then laurch in the air like Yuri's leap in XIII. Damn! I'm hype: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rbkh_2QOA0k&feature=youtu.be&t=168

Eh.. I think models and even the enviroments look fine.
There's a serious lack of decent shaders tho which makes it look like something straight from the PS2/early PS3 era.

Thanks for these!

That Leona wall bounce combo was pretty badass. This new function to the CD blow back is actually kinda neat.

Kyo and Kula's Climax DMs are pretty cool.

And most importantly, the combos in those vids show that super canceling only costs a total of 1 power bar.

New CDs remind me of CD's being a comboable normal in XII. That Leona combo was effectively stuff she was able to do with counter hits and cancels in the most recent games, just with a more recognizable visual cue, so that's good. She also seems to be able to get a hit after Moon Slasher even at mid screen now (the one used was a crouch LK), which is pretty interesting. Her crossups suck compared to the silly stuff Iori and Kyo can rush into, so more midscreen mixup is nice. Glad to see the slash Saber DM back. Hope it gets a nice EXDM variant this time, always seemed like an underutilized move since the V was always better.

Kula's butt still looks nice and shiny, leather is the first material that gets it's proper shaders (more like highlights) I suppose, ha. I'd prefer a little more drama to her CDM personally (it goes by so fast!), but it's still pretty nice.

I kinda miss Kyo's old Neomax. This new thing is... what you expect, but that feels so safe. His landing has some personality, though.

Andy's additional camera work is good for his, though the opponent needs to crumple at the end, not fall off their feet backwards.

I'd be fine with a few more slow, lingering impact frames, personally. I'm not wincing in pain from the blows as much here as I was in XIII.

Thanks for the explanations for the autocombo thing everyone. So happy with all of the footage that is coming out of this event.
I understand why this looks terrible, what I don't get is why Sony keeps giving it so much air time.

Why wouldn't they give attention to a game that is exclusive to their console at their own event? Not like playstation experience is on the level of E3 or some other large event where the more niche franchises wouldn't be seen on stage.

I guess because having KOF as an exclusive is big no matter how it looks

Not sure about that, the presentation dropped the ball in creating demand (imo). Never was a killer app in any sense of the word.

PS4's still over $1k USD in Brazil, so that only leaves US and Yurop.

What do you mean by 'so much air time'? How much air time in total have they given this game @_@
Less than two minutes between TGS and PSX trailers, the audacity Sony have for wasting so much time on a game that doesn't look good graphically!!!

Maybe the first few videos, but this recent exposition has the gameplay front and center. Demand comes from the already huge fanbase KOF has cultivated, and now with the autocombos and other steps to ease newcomers, I think it'll do just fine. Will it hit SF or Tekken numbers? Nah, but it's already had a great reception at this event.

Most people about to hop on a fighting game aren't going to give a shit about the graphics after a certain, very soon point.

And as someone already said:

And KOF as a series is still pretty popular in South America, China and Southeast Asia.

What, you mean there's something to video games other than graphical quality? Could've fooled me lol

Yeah really. This topic hopefully won't be indicative of the release discussion, but we will see.

I'm interested in how the new characters will play out. Handicap boxer? Like Oro handicap? KOF usually has great new characters like Duo Lon, so I'm hyped regardless.
