A magazine scan just popped up
confirming that Gohan will reveal a "giant power" next week. However, his body can't take that power...

This is just going to be Gohan pushing his body to stall until Goku and Vegeta arrive to beat Freeza and Ginyu so I wouldn't get my hopes up. Since Gohan said that SSJ was a huge strain on his body he's probably just going to go SSJ2.

Don't forget
Buu, he's going to get on the action sooner than Vegeta and Goku.

Nah, it'll definitely be SSJG. Believe.

You know what I just realized...with Vegeta, Goku, Piccolo, Buu and possibly Gohan gone...who will protect earth? Z Fighters with Gotenks? Seems like a stretch...this could be a plot point...

I mean... SSJ3 Gotenks is pretty powerful. That should be enough to protect the Earth, one would think.

In the end it will be that Piccolo taught Gohan how to grow into a giant.

Turns out being a giant has been known to be useless since the last time Piccolo became a giant.

Yeah this episode wasn't kind on my boy Gohan :(

I don't expect the power up to be anything noticeable. He might be able to deal with Frieza's 1st form. That's it.

Anyway, there has been speculation that
Gohan will be the 5th fighter when Buu inevitably fucks up. That's what I've heard. Don't know how far the manga has progressed in the last 2 weeks though

If the story made any sense whatsoever, Gohan would start training again after the ROF saga because he can't rely on Vegeta and Goku.

But I wouldn't be surprised if Toriyama nerfs Gohan even more. Maybe he won't be able to turn even SSJ anymore. That would be a great way to kick him whilst he's down.

Rofl at all of the Gotenks is stronger than Gohan salt in this thread. Wow.

To be honest, I'd like to see Gohan stay relatively weak. Goku was such an awful father due to his intense training. Maybe Gohan will actually raise his kid instead of always being the #3/#4 strongest Saiyan. I'd love to see Piccolo or someone else get stronger in his place. Gohan had his time in the Cell Games, now he's just perma-saiyaman. He can fight hijinx in the city with Krillin while the big boys are on some intergalticic God shit.

Loved this episode and the steering away from RoF. So stoked to see how Vegeta and Goku transform.

kicking him while he's down implies that he wants to fight in the first place, which he clearly doesn't

He doesn't have to want to fight. The only impulse he needs is to protect his loved ones. And that's always going to be there because of the nature of Dragon Ball Z/Super. There will always be threats to everyone he loves.

none of that affects his desire to fight, especially when his dad and his dad's rival always show up to save the world

"Always" lmao. That only happens during ROF movie. It's never happened before.

Even when Vegeta is there, he's never a real threat to the villain and even when he is, they'll switch it up and make it about Goku like they did in ROF movie. I'll be pleasantly surprised if they change that bullshit ending and actually make it semi-reasonable.

Anyway, debating this is pointless. They could always introduce a villain that will ultimately be too strong for Goku which would force Gohan to save everyone. If Gohan starts training again, then that will probably happen. So for them to introduce a villain that only Gohan can handle means that he would've needed to train to protect his loved ones.

This is such a good point. Vegeta takes the L so much harder than Gohan does, especially because he tries so hard and doesn't have an excuse like Gohan's pacifism. Maybe that's why his fight against 19 was so glorious. He kicked ass for the first time in the series since he fought Goku (and ultimately lost).

The hidden rule of anime is that new forms and techniques must get weaker after each use.

Doubtful, since goku learning to finish the job was a pretty big part of rof

I think that scene still could of been done in a more interesting light: Goku perhaps could of kicked Freiza away at the last second, with SSJG Vegeta quickly using his strength to obliterate Freiza. (Passing off that Goku wasn't in a good state for SSJG himself)

this is all that matters

the movie was such bullshit "gotta have goku be the hero" bullshitty shitbull

Agreed. This shit has to stop.

Frieza slaughters Vegeta's family, destroy's his planet. Treats him like shit his entire life. Then, later dies by his hands after failing to become a Super Saiyan in time. Frieza comes back, and Vegeta is one of the most powerful beings in the known Universe and easily shuts down Frieza and then at the final hour is robbed by utter nonsense after the film itself makes it clear Vegeta doesn't play around.

I love Gohan, but Vegeta got the biggest shaft that film.

I'm finally getting around to catching up with this series (yeah, I didn't actually start watching it yet, haha)

BoG retread is worse than the movie so far. Lots of drawn out comedy scenes that aren't funny. The first four eps or so were great, but it's like a switch flipped when they got to BoG and the quality went down by quite a bit.

I really hope they take advantage and make that a plot point. Develop some of the human characters more hopefully. Gotenks can do a lot by himself, unless he forgets his time limit like the last episode (sigh)

Hey, that also has me wondering, it's always one super powered villian after another coming after little old earth, what the heck are the other planets in the galaxy doing when this happens? It must happen a fair bit since so much shit seems to happen on earth, which was supposed to just be a little backwater that no major galactic powers cared about until the Saiyan saga.

Like comic book heroes, the threats come as a direct result of goku's existence

Buu didn't really do this, which is funny since Goku decided to stay dead for this very reason

I guess technically since babidi came looking to revive buu with the energy of earth's warriors, who by all rights were the strongest in the universe.

Buu's cocoon was on earth in the first place.

I have to assume that without Goku, Pilaf would have gotten his wish, and then Tenshinhan and Krillin and others would have banded together to bring him down, which would have led to Pilaf resurrecting Piccolo and the world living under his rule until Babidi arrives.

Most of us can have a 9-5 job, go gym afterwards and then go home to the family but apparently Gohan can't.

Vegeta and Goku are kind of terrible fathers tho. Vegeta a little less but he still abandoned Bulma and Trunks to go train with Whis anyway.

I love that Tagoma was
driven insane by training with Frieza
. I love how
Ginyu was just biding his time
. I loved how Frieza is just out for revenge. I love how Piccolo
is still such a great dad
.

Ah man, it really feels like having Dragon Ball back. If only they spent more time on the fights.

So about piccolo and a possible power up
let's say that blast actually killed him. He's not able to eat a senzu bean (or they are out of them) and he goes to some namekian afterlife and meets some elders. They teach him more about the namekian book of legends and inform him about a namekian God power up. He achieves it and gets a power boost putting him close to goku and vegeta. He's then wished back to earth just in time to go to the tournament.
could work, right? >_>

Yeah Vegeta better be the one to kill Frieza this time.

I can't wait for this one to end up with Goku owning Frieza but becoming cocky, Frieza destroys the Earth and then Whis turns back time and warns Goku so he can finish him properly. No need for Vegeta to be involved at all. His "big" moment will be defeating Ginyu lmao.

Vegeta and Goku are kind of terrible fathers tho. Vegeta a little less but he still abandoned Bulma and Trunks to go train with Whis anyway.

They are terrible fathers because they don't know any better. They are an alien race that solely care about fighting. Gohan can be a good father as well as not being a total pussy. Just my opinion, of course.

Goku ought to be pissed at Piccolo for saving that failure of a son yet again. He probably sensed what was happening on earth and was biding his time in hopes Frieza would kill him as an easy out for having to claim that embarrassment any more. Goten is clearly the beloved son and will inherit his father's legacy as a committed warrior with the focused discipline to get off his ass and train. Gohan is the shame of the entire sayain race, and for as long as he lives, Goku has to cope with all the world knowing this scrawny nerd who likes to larp as a superhero came from his own loins.

It's established Goku doesn't really care much about his family anymore.

What magazine scan are you guys talking about anyway

It's one of those images that come every week with a summary of the next episode and pictures. Usually there isn't anything new in them, but this time they attempted to be vague with the preview scenes.

Just watch how they want to get us (Gohan) fans have hope again. Only to crush it in the worst way possible.

Super has already given him a bigger role versus RoF so I guess we'll see what happens and if this is the trigger for him to go back to training.

Considering what's happening next in the plot overall, this fight will likely just convince Gohan that he should be at home with his family and not on the front line. It'd be good if he trained Satan and instilled him with some confidence, since the confidence of Earth's Saviour is pretty important.

This arc is making it pretty clear that just "being a Saiyan" isn't good enough anymore.

In the end it will be that Piccolo taught Gohan how to grow into a giant.

Make this a thing, Toriyama. Giant Gohan.

Super Saiyan Giant.

The only version of Gohan that's interesting:

In the main timeline, I find goofy and "weak" Gohan to be way more interesting than Cell Games or Mystic Gohan.

I love DB when it's not all about the power and the transformations (I've been a Dragon Ball fan since the late 80s).

If you watch History of Trunks right after Freeza it adds an entirely new weight to the Android saga. Just Saiyan
