Things that 'Should' be the Standard in 2016. Besides 1080p/60fps.

Basically small things that improve your gaming experience.

ONE Loading Screen.(Unless you die or quicktravel)

One of the things that I love about the Uncharted Series and TLoU is you can basically play the whole game Loading Once if you don't die.

Party Matchmaking. I seriously couldn't believe Watch_Dogs launched with Team-based game modes and Did not allow you to group up in a party at Launch.

Dedicated Servers for Multiplayer . This will never happen , sadly . The only reason I still enjoy Titanfall on PC is the ability to get a sub-30 ping in my region without worrying about someone with a potato for their internet.

I wanted to dominate the living room. Then I took an ESRAM in the knee.
The ability to set your preferred language independently from how the system deals with localization. Especially on Xbox One, since you can't set system language and region independently.

Option in Steam to search for games owned by a certain selection friends so you can easier find something to play with.

An option for big text in console games

Yes!! I watched a dev diary for Divinity Original Sins and they showed how when they developed the console version, they played it on their in-studio couch setup and I was just sitting there like "nobody can read that"

Either native Steam Controller support, or the ability to use mouse and controller together at once.

The ability to toggle HUD elements on and off.

We should wait a day, see the top 5 most popular Gaf suggestions, make a poll, and then email the results to all the big publishers. :D

Mhmm. Like I don't even need to wear glasses or anything, but on my old TV setup I couldn't read shit in games like Shadow of Mordor.

1080p and 60 FPS should not be "the standard", at least on PC.

Arbitrary resolution and framerate support should be.
We were pretty much already there in the 00s, it's ridiculous that there should be a step back in this regard.

4K 120 FPS should be the standard by now tbh

Why should that be the standard when the large majority of gamers don't have TVs/monitors that can output >60hz or >1080p? Seems like overkill.

Anyways, it bothers me that most(console) games don't have quick saves. The ability to quickly save and load at any point is such an important feature that adds a lot to a game, with exceptions of course ala dark souls, ftl, etc. The only console game I remember having it was Doom 3 on Xbox. It was bound to the select button and it saddens me more games didn't a adopt it.

In any game? What kind of blanket statement is this? Because it's simply not true.

In a good chunk of AAA games released , Try running 4K ubersampled Witcher 2 (That is what is classified as MAX) . If you can even run that at above 45FPS , I'll give it to you.

Besides there are always random framedrops .

No god damn splash screens when you start up a game. Who actually reads that shit? (copyright messages)

For PC:
Arbitrary resolution support.
I mean seriously the fact that still some games still don't do this on PC is stupid.

Also unlocked FPS, there are still plenty of games being locked to 30 or 60 on PC, let it free!

EDIT: Damn it I got beaten by Durante.

Realsim, I played almost all horror games on consoles and when 60 fps is used you lose a lot of details that the game is just not immersive and you are not sucked in but your just playing another game.

Maybe this rule is not immportant this gen seeing how realstic graphics can be on today's consoles even with 60 fps.

A complete game at launch that isn't completely broken on any platforms it's released on.

Ever since consoles got internet connection. Alright, I know PS2/Dreamcast had network capabilities and I'm sure PC already had patches/multi player but with PS3/360 is when things really changed.

On my PS2 the disc I bought was what I had to play with. If it had bugs then you need to put up with them unless the game was updated and re-released. DLC wasn't a thing and if a game had an expansion then it'd be completely separate.

Now developers just ship half assed games and patch it. Not even gonna start on DLC. I really don't think it's a bad thing that patches can be implemented and DLC done right isn't bad. I just think that some developers exploit it and stick out a game to meet a stupid date (for example, skyrim 11/11/11) or at a certain time when higher sales are predicted. just take your time and get it right. it's not gonna release in a perfect state so if it needs bug fixes then patch them by all means. just don't release a broken game.

i think there are a lot of genre specific things that fighting games really ought to adapt across the board or at least on a much wider scale. a game like skullgirls (whose actually gameplay im not crazy about) is like the new standard with its suite of features like a hitbox view mode and amazing rollback netcode. rollback netcode in particular is something that i hope catches on in a bigger way.

Cloud saves

I was quite surprised that GTA V doesn't even have cloud saves on Steam. Lucky I'm just in a habit of manually backing up all my saves. I could understand if it was a small indie game or something but one of the biggest games of all time?

Yeah I wish save anywhere would be a standard, you can still keep check/save points for game design reasons.

Yeah, a quick save is something all games should have. Luckily there's sort of ones on PS Vita and I think Xbox One and maybe PS4 with suspend/resume, but it's easier when a game does it, because then you can play other games and reload that one later.

PS4 is still using an antiquated file system that doesn't allow a purchased digital license to "unlock" a physical media install. If you install a game off disc and later buy the digital version you have to delete the physical install and then download a 25-50GB file.

This, my friends, is fucking stupid, totally unnecessary and a royal pain in the ass if you have slow net speed or metered bandwidth. Xbone allows digital unlocks on physical installs. Hell, 360 has allowed this for years. This should be a given on all platforms by now.

the stuff that Dead Space (1-2) has been doing all along:
- full control of your character for the entire length of the game
- in-game UI
