Yeah, DB super seems to be much less brutal so far compared to DBZ. Hopefully that changes. Right now there is very little tension, probably cuz we know what happened in the movies.

Never forget Freeza impaling Krillin on his horns and then sadistically flailing him around.

I think they actually removed that scene entirely from the original dub because it was so violent. And then Krillin had this giant unexplained hole in his clothing.

They showed the impaling part. Just cut out the sadistic bouncing.

There is worse in DBZ to be sure, but I thought the torturing of Gohan by Frieza was pretty brutal, when he was just shooting random impaling shots into Gohan while he layed there.

Edit: ^^ Yeah, that 18 scene was intense. Really memorable fight for that reason in particular. Ouch.

Nah it was there. I remember because of Freeza's dumb "ride em cowboy!" line

wowww that was a horribly animated episode.

Outside of Frieza's charge sequence.

Almost every face still looked off, but it was fan-made. The only good face still was the one they reused the promotion part.

I don't think it's just that. It's a part of it but even if you haven't seen the films I doubt there is any tension at all. The story just isn't structured to have any tension and neither are the fights. It doesn't feel like that's important at all.

As for the BS with Gohan. I'm finally done with this show until I learn that shit has been addressed and changed. We talk about how Vegeta is on the brutal end of fights and even Piccolo jobs. Never once did I ever get the impression they were weak or just weak characters. That is all I get from this Gohan and it's all I've gotten from him from the start of this. What ultimately really gets to me is a tossing away of character development for Gohan. A Gohan that should have learned from his mistake when he stopped training after killing Cell. You'd think after playing a part in allowing Buu to be let free he would have realized there needed to be a balance. That's the impression I was left with. That threats would always come. It's like that shit never happen here and either Toryiama forgot or simply doesn't give a damn.

Spoiler from the Revival F movie, nothing big but

The explanation of Whis time travel powers

Was that ever mentioned in Super? I cant remember.

Also in the latest episode there was a scene of Piccolo's face still and boy did it crack me up.

Not yet, but its been hinted at.

censorship

I mean you just need to watch Toriko's anime to see Toei censoring at its finest

You could argue the concept of canon is kind of whatever at this point though since Super referenced several non-canon events already! :D

....
....

I want to cry for you Gohan fans but I need to save my tears for corpse Piccolo

ugh, what a joke...dat animation...dose stills

I love how inconsistent the character heights always are.
Vegeta and Fat Buu seem to be the biggest offender.

side-note are the new outfits permanent? Not that Vegetas and gokus are bad, but I like the old ones better.

And when did Goku learn how to SSJBlue...? In the dimension?

It was cut on the version that was shown on Toonami since back then there were two versions the uncut version that was on DVD and VHS and the edited version which is what Toonami used.

http://dbzu.3gkai.com/series/ep079.html

You're probably just remembering the uncut version on the dvds or the Remastered Sets since Funimation has practically abandoned the edited version for all media now and only uses the uncut version .

For the record, since I'm on the topic of the remastered sets, it can't be considered the original dub since back in 2006 a lot of the voices were redubbed like Freeza,Ginyu and Vegeta. You have to pick up the old singles for the original version but even then they replaced the original narrator with Kyle Herbert about the start of the Cell games.

Didn't watch the episode yet, but going by the reactions I'm guessing the magazine scans exaggerated things and Gohan's still on his fuccboi status.

Figures.

Maybe you should watch the episode.

The magazines did make it sound cooler than it actually was though.

seriously LOL @ people complaining about RoF.

In Revival of F, gohan gets wrecked by God-level Frieza holding back 99% of his power, when Super Saiyan 3 Goku was wrecked similarly by Beerus.

In Super? He gets wrecked by Tagoma. Then, when piccolo saves his sorry ass from Frieza, Gohan gets angry, and powers up, but his body instantly shuts down due to being unable to handle it.

He's absolutely pathetic in Super by comparison.

Gohan is filled with holes and his body is basically broken because of it. Him powering up was for Goku to lock onto his ki.

Man it's so obvious everything is being setup up here in such a way for Gohan to start training to get back in fighting shape. That moment had to have just drilled "I fucked up" into his brain to the point where he'd probably obsessively train out of fear and paranoia.
Not saying it will actually be like that, but he probably was feeling pretty horrible about himself. They really exaggerated it I thought.

Then in the manga (manga spoilers)

I don't think they would have had Vegeta make a request to a test of some sort to be able to fight in the tournament if it was going to amount to nothing. This is one of those things where if they hadn't written him to make that request, no one would have batted an eye. They probably won't even manage to get Buu to sit down and take the text. Goku calling Vegeta nuts and exclaiming how Gohan only studies was foreshadowing right there. It turns out Gohan was training within that whole time span in between RoF and whenever that takes place. When Buu doesn't take the test, they're going to be trying to make a decision on who to get instead of him. Gohan will either show up casually at some point or they actively seek him out since he'd probably still be the best candidate for them other than Buu anyway. So when they see him, he's all buff, mystic ready, probably broke a few more z-swords and swords of other letters during his rigorous training, SS4 Gohan here we come.

Please believe.

This was the worst looking scene for me. What the fuck is going on with his limbs.

Did they reuse a cell from One Piece, maybe?

Considering Gohan looks like this and the end of Z, it's a given that he's going to train again.

Goku was holding back though. They use Vegeta as a measuring stick to show how strong Goku is.

I mean it always seems to be Goku who gets the even fights where they show off his technique.

Perfect Cell vs Ascended SSJ Goku
Majin Vegeta vs SSJ2 Goku
Fat Buu vs SSJ3 Goku
Kid Buu vs SSJ3 Goku

It's why Ascended SSJ Goku vs Perfect Cell and Majin Vegeta vs SSJ2 Goku are my favorite two fights in the show.

Pretty good episode. This arc finally starts to pick up. I'm still really annoyed by how Gohan is treated in Super. He's just a complete weakling. They could have arrived at the same conclusion without making him seem like he's as weak as the others.

Anyway, I'm hyped to see the fight next episode.

Depends on what you mean by pathetic. Pathetic that he had to get beat down to realize not training is a bad idea? Sure. But it's still better than showing up, slapping around Freeza's men and getting one-punched and put on the sideline by Frieza like what happened in the movie.

Instead, Super gave him a few episodes where he tried and did have success against Ginyu/Tagoma though he still failed to protect his friends from Frieza and came to a self realization about it after Piccolo took a hit for him yet again.

The amount of time spent on this seems an awful lot like foreshadowing for future character development. If in the end it doesn't amount to anything then I definitely agree with you.

Also this.

don't forget vegeta kicked the shit out of imperfect cell then let him transform even though he could have killed him
and without gohan being super strong, buu couldn't have been revived

:^))))))))))))))))

That's what I mean. Vegeta destroyed Imperfect Cell, then got destroyed by Perfect Cell. Destroyed by Buu, destroyed by Frieza etc.
