After Ryu and Cloud, Goku has just as much chance to get in as anyone else.

I am hoping for it lol

Just watched Ep 23... And yeah, not surprised at all with what happens to Gohan. Can't believe a tiny bit of me thought he'd do something remotely relevant in terms of fighting. I just can't see him coming back at all. This combined with the information we know from the manga has really got me down.

If this can be answered without manga spoilers, what do you guys think the odds are of seeing regular red SSG again? Can Goku even achieve that form anymore? I know in the first movie it seemed like he kind of could.

The preview for episode 24 implies SSB is beyond SSG so probably low chance.

The next chapter should leak this week. Believe.

I can't wait for Gohan to become even further irrelevant in the manga and we'll have to endure at least another full page of whining about how much of a jobber he is.

Look at that animation.

LOOK AT IT!

I despise Uchiyama episodes, especially because they put him in charge of so many important moments/fights. Ebisawa had his off moments too.

Slightly related:

How long were Goku and Vegeta training inside Whis' staff exactly? Was it years?

I feel like a transformation like SSGSJ should get a bit more explanation than "we punched each other for awhile."

It won't happen. In the movie, it happened because it was stated that Base and SSJ Goku only had part of the SSJGod's power, but in Super it was stated that SSJ Goku with God Ki absorbed was just as strong as SSJ God Goku, making the SSJ God form redundant. So, we probably will never see it again.

Well, there was the bit about ki control and minimizing ki waste, and also Whis talking about how if they could increase their power through his training and then turn into SSJs something special would happen.

I can't even read the power-up for Gohan to call Goku in a positive light on account of it, really, probably just being the case that Goku's finer ki control/focus has gotten a much higher ceiling for good old teleporting from the training with Whis than he realized/acknowledged thus far due to how suddenly it all played out.

Also, well, Goku could've also just made a mid-jump to King Kai's place first for a grand total of arriving to Freiza's beam being another foot or so closer to hitting Gohan.

A shame they didn't even give Vegeta a proper fight with Ginyu for the sake of old times---not sure how many other classic surprise returns they have left to leverage going forward for actually cool happenings at this rate.

The episode itself did move several plot bits forward, so that's something, but man alive Toei really could expend A Bit More Effort.

Man Gohan went out like a punk this most recent episode. I'm also not a big fan of how they are doing Jaco in the show. He was actually kind of a baller in the movie but in Super he's basically nothing :(

Also why bother bringing back Ginyu if you're just going to kill him off 2 episodes later? What a waste of a plot thread :/

Tagoma and the Red Guy (forgot his name) could have been used to give the weaker Z fighters something to actually do of interest but nope. Just wasted potential.

This is the only alternate "form" Gohan should have kept after the Ultimate powerup. The glasses are even reminiscent of Master Roshi and all the other martial arts masters/gods.

Where is this from? I've probably already seen it but I don't remember. Looks so good <3

Strangely the techniques that Goku and Vegeta are learning from Whis at the moment can help Gohan with his lack of physical training since it actively reduces stress on a body

The art style is just plain inconsistent

What's going on

Goku and Gohan strived towards something similar back in the Cell Saga. Instead of using the flawed bulky Ascended form, they opted to master the original Super Saiyan form instead. This meant using it for very long periods of time to the point where it becomes natural for them. Even in their sleep. This way there's no energy drain on their power. They can then use otherwise wasted energy to power up further if they need to.

I'm trying but I don't want to get hurt again :(

Yeah, that's one of the only ways Gohan can go on par with Goku and Vegeta in a short time period.

I'm hoping the story arc after ROF
with the tournament includes Gohan because Beerus senses he has the potential to be stronger than Goku/Vegeta.

A guy can dream

Can't be the exact same though since whatever exactly Whis is telling Goku is new to him.

I forgot to ask this when we were discussing it many pages ago, but why didn't Buu get weaker when he absorbed the South Kaoishin like he did when he absorbed the fat one?

The animation is just fucking awful.

It's Dragon Ball. Don't be so stingy with the animation budget, Toei.

It has nothing to do with the budget, it has to do with the state of the anime industry in combination with how stretched thin Toei is.
Toei probably doesn't even set the budget, that's probably Bandai and/or Shueisha, not that a bigger budget would help when the problem is extremely strict time scales and there being few animators with enough time to work on it since every animator already works to death on tons of projects at once.

You guys talking about the animation details and drawing, has broken
super for me i keep noticing weird drawings more and more :'(

End of ignorance is a bliss era.

Will still watch cause its dragon ball

I'm rewatching Z on Bluray right now and I'm about 40 something episodes in and boy do I wish you could screenshot blurays on PS4 because there is so much awful art in Z.
Super is far from perfect, but it isn't much worse than Z. Episode 5 was a huge low point but it has never gotten close to that low again.

The South Kaioshin was a fighter type and the strongest amont the Kaioshin. Dai Kaioshin had a big gentle nature which was what dropped Buu's power.

Favorite animation style go!

Mine are:

Minoru Maeda, which is the closest to Toriyama's work and the most detailed

090.png

I'd never noticed there were so many different styles. To me there were only three really distinguishable styles:
1. The best one: Minoru Maeda, as per your pics (look at how badass Frieza looks!); am I right in assuming he was also responsible for the episode where Future Trunks arrives on Earth and kills Frieza? That has got to be the best DBZ episode in terms of animation (or at least, quality of the drawings)
2. The weird one with scrunchy faces but still okay: that's Keisuke Masunaga
3. The really bad one: screw Masayuki Uchiyama

No idea there were so many others, judging by Kagari's post.

And you know what's worst? Even with Masayuki Uchiyama, at least the animation itself was good. Well, it had tons of frames anyway. Dragon Ball Super can't even match that most of the time.

[FAKE EDIT] There was a fourth one I noticed: whoever did some of the GT episodes, especially the one where Goku fights Frieza and Cell in hell. I think I might even like Uchiyama's style more than that one, which is saying something. At least Uchiyama's style was unapologetically bad.

The South Kaioshin was a fighter type and the strongest amont the Kaioshin. Dai Kaioshin had a big gentle nature which was what dropped Buu's power.

But South Kaioshin was also good too, presumably. Shouldn't Buu's power have gone down then as well?

Whoever drew the Trunks intro ep is my fav.

I think this was made especially apparent because the episode right after had terrible animation

Katsuyoshi Nakatsuru did the good Trunks episode, Yukio Ebisawa did the one after.

Nakatsuru was one of the key animators on Episode 1 of Super, but I don't know if he's done anything for the series since.
