But he won't have failed. Maybe Kylo of all people will help her turn back. Imagine how interesting that would be? They both fight Snoke.

I don't know but I'm pretty sure the romance/jealousy subplot is going to happen with Rey/Finn. This can lead her to be a very different character than we've seen before.

Dark side female character would work. And change the story completely. Imagine 8 ending this way? She can't control her emotions, maybe even kills his love interest? This would make 9 a whole different film. Maybe she even joins Kylo.

Wouldn't you be angry that the one guy you finally trust leaves you for someone else? You're finished some of your training, can't wait to show off and see them but they're going down a different path? I don't think this isn't out of the realm of possibility.

I also think Kylo is going to turn to the light side but live. He's going to be the first character in the films to live on knowing both sides of the force.

Yeah I was thinking the other day, what a twist it would be for Rey to fall to the dark side, and then IX is Luke and Finn having to save her and Kylo. Would be an interesting plot for sure, and would put the focus more on Luke, similar to Han in TFA, which is what I need from at least one of these films.

It sounds to me like Rey's parentage is left open for debate. Might be Luke's daughter, might not be. If she is, we'll find out in Episode VIII.

I imagine if it was implied she was Luke's we would know that by now from the people who have seen it. apparently we get a flashback of her parents and she meets him. I can't imagine she is Luke's and doesn't know it herself. so far I think it's a safe bet that she is completelye fresh blood. which is not a bad thing, but it makes you wonder where it leaves the skywalker legacy, because they won't drop that.

Why do I have feeling that Rey is going to be the new "prophecy"

No known family history (that we know of). Rumors of her being powerful in the force.

I know theoretically that Anakin brought balance back, but it's certainly an idea. I have a feeling we would know more after the movie is out

Not necessarily. Depends on the nature of whatever relationship Luke might have had with Rey's mother. It might be that neither Rey or Luke are aware of the relation and that's something that's explored/revealed in VIII.

Personally speaking, I'm completely open to the idea of Rey Random. However the spoilers just sound too open-ended right now to be absolutely sure on that front, though we'll all have a much better idea of whatever the hell is going on there in the next several days.

I love the idea of her being a random girl that gets sucked up into it. But, I know that's probably not the case.

The rebellion didn't make much of an impression either though, he changed. I can buy Leia and Han naming their son after an important figure like Obi-Wan. Usually this sort of fan-service bothers me (like Harry Potter), but I'm cool with it here. At least it isn't Obi-Wan Anakin Porkins Solo.

But why would they name it Ben and not Obi-Wan, that makes no sense.

I don't even know if this thread is full of spoilers.

Please god no prequel prophecy bullshit please.

People are going to be so salty when they realize Rey isn't Luke's daughter.
You're really riding this one hard. Maybe it turns out you're right, but what will you do if she IS his daughter? Will you "crash into a Morton truck"?

(And now I'm gonna leave the thread for real, now that it seems like no soundtrack leak is imminent).

Wow that barrygibb guy destroys the movie ugh

Yeah he does. The main parts that worry me are the comments on too much self-referencing and sticking way too close to the story beats of A New Hope. I knew there were going to be plenty of parallels, but with the pastebin mentioning a trench run to destroy an oscillator thus destroying the starkiller base, that's a little much for me.

I'm reading his impressions without having context though, so we'll see how it plays out. The plot of Empire could be posted using the same tone and it would make the film seem like a disappointment.

I'm gonna have the feeling that the movie is gonna be just okay... Not as good as episode 3 or 5... Doesn't sound like they try anything new just a rehash of the OT. Why a bigger version of the Death Star? Why keep using X-wings? Have a planet like tattooine but call it Jakku? Why? Why no Luke? Doesn't even make sense to me plus it doesn't even Have a good ending but still be open for a sequel like episode 1&4. :-(

I didn't want a rehash of the OT but something new. That's what JJ is good for I guess. Rehashing old movies/stories with a new coat of paint.

So...I read the last few pages and it's all over the place. Can someone get me up to speed, or just tell me if the movie is confirmed good or bad? Impressions are all over the place now, and I feel like I can't trust this pastebin or celebrity impressions.

Another trench-run would feel lazy.

This does feel too self-referencing. I was willing to let slid the bigger storybeats but even some of the smaller story elements feels too much.

Of the twitter reactions, most reactions are very positive, outside of 2 or 3 saying "It was ok". There's one guy on Reddit who is going into detail about the film and really disliked it, but he's one guy.

You're dealing with impressions here, there is no confirmation. It seems to be liked by a lot of people but there is a lot of focus on the negative aspects.

It sounds like a good movie but maybe not a great one. A lot of questions are raised but not much is answered and it tends to tread too closely to the story beats of A New Hope, which will bother some people.

How'd we know?

I think it sounds entertaining.

I mean, I expect this movie to have a lot of callbacks and some "poetry" (lulz! There got that out of the way). This movie has to function on so many different levels. It has to be new, but familiar. A launching pad for a new series, but a bridge to the old one. That's not an easy feat and there will always be a percentage of people that feel you veered too much into one side or the other.

As long as it has heart and isn't embarrassing like the prequels, I'm perfectly ok with the "issues" people will have with this. You can't be all things to all people, despite what some would like to believe.

I wouldn't be surprised if Luke's limited role in VII was to give him more time to shape up for VIII, you could tell he still had a little ways to go and now he looks amazing.

This is how I feel. Though it does annoy me a little bit that there is another 'death star'.

What's wrong with Ben? Maybe they just liked the name Ben.

At least it's not Dan. Hi I'm Dan, Dan Solo.

Dan: Dad! I made rank of Lieutenant!
Han: Lieutenant Dan.....Solo....

To be fair most people will just find it pretty cool because I assume it will be a competent movie. A lot of people aren't really articulate about why they like or dislike something, especially on twitter.

There are two things that bum me out from what we know: that the story beats are very "rhymed", and that we see so little of Luke. I mean, if they're doing so much fan service anyway, why not let him have one awesome scene where he just wrecks shit? Or at least drops some wisdom? It feels like major blue balls.

Its better than Holiday Special, worse than the prequels

That's good to know ^ As long as it's better than the masterpiece that is the Holiday Special. :)

Oh, that's the sort of criticism we all knew was coming, though. Guess I'll just have to wait and see how the next couple of days go on this.

So, you're worried that the film has too much fan-service, but not enough of the fan-service you're looking for? :P

Although it does make sense if Kylo is trying to be the empire of old. My guess is once he gets shutdown in this movie, the next two will progress very differently.

Not knowing a lot of details but the larger story notes this makes sense. His empire history books must have used selective history in forgetting to tell people that they got blown up :lol

Star Wars engineers have to be some of the most impressive and at the same time incompetent engineers in all of fiction.

Imagine the resources wasted in the last 60 years in the galaxy.

Yep, I think the idea of another trench run is lazy, but I also think that many parts of RotJ are lazy too, and I love that film. It sounds like the movie overall succeeds in establishing Star Wars again, that's all I ever wanted. I'm really interested in what direction the saga will go next, and I'm still incredibly hyped for Thursday!

Man, the backlash is going to be strong with this one. I guess it was always going to be though. Poetry will be the word of the week.

Yes. There are different kinds of fanservice. Straight callbacks versus moments of awesomeness. If you're just going to rely on the former, it's disappointing to me. If you're going to have the main character from the OT return, might as well let him have his moment.

He definitely looks like he's in fighting shape now based on that video of him dressed up as a Stormtrooper.

It's obvious they are building up to huge things with him and want to hold back on them for later in the trilogy. His skills were already getting solid by the end of RotJ, now he has had 30+ years to train and hone... imagine what a fight with him in it would be like. I for one don't want to see that in the first film. I want the payoff to be worth it.

"Hey, do you think we should design some sort of barrier or shield to protect this thing? Ever hear about how the original death star was destroyed by one small ship?"

"Ehh, fuck it. What's the worst that could happen?"
