yeah I feel the same, I only watched DB and Z in english but now when ever I rewatch I'll probably do it in japanese because super has gotten me so used to it.

No he isn't doing it and Toei is doing a lot of their own thing as well.
Considering how different the anime is already, I'm still taking it at a wait and see approach. Also it could be used as a side plot away from the tournament with no one else around to protect Earth/solo training mission, believe!

Literally everyone is being included on the adventure to some extent, everyone... except Gohan.
On the more positive side, the opposition looks cool. Well, besides the Frieza race guy. Not sure how I feel about that.

There's definitely gotta be a reason for him not being there, though. It's strange he wouldn't be there. And if the written test hasn't happened yet, Buu hasn't failed out, so there's still a possibility for him to show up. Too many things are lining up for it not to happen.

As far as we know his involvement with the manga is the same as the anime, we know he wrote the plot and made the characters but other than that we have no idea how involved he is.

My point still stands though. Maybe he doesn't need a power up from his current form to put up a decent fight with whoever his opponent is.
Toriyama's notes for DB Super:
"I don't care what you do with this tournament as long as you ruin Gohan. Just completely fuck up his characterisation and development."
I think it's over guys. Oh well, hopefully Vegeta isn't a complete jobber as well.
Assorted chapter thoughts:
Feels like being a kid again, wondering what's going to happen next with all these new guys.
- Digging the U6 lineup. It's a good mix of fresh and familiar, and the two universes come off more like the two sides of a coin than U7 simply looking into a mirror.
- There's obviously something going on with the red guy and I have no idea what it is and I can't wait to find out.
- The Bulma/Jaco segment is hilarious, even in Korean. You can follow the gist of the conversation through body language alone! Love it.
- I understand why the kaioshins, some martially inclined noncombatants, and some friends are attending the tournament, but almost everyone is going, even mind boggling inclusions like Pan, Bulma's parents, the Galactic King, and the Pilaf Gang. What's the plan for all of these people? How did the Pilaf Gang even make it onto Whis's great glass elevator in the first place?
- And with literally everyone else coming along for the ride, what's the plan for Gohan? Unless Toriyama actually does dig 17 back up, he's the only fighter left if something goes down. It's too obvious an exclusion for something not to happen, but it's also been made clear that he's not in serious fighting shape at the moment, and with all the fighting going on in the tournament, a subplot is probably not going to also center on fighting. So what's he really up to?

That's the obvious answer, and I'm betting the conference thing is just a cover story, but unless he hangs out in the RoSaT, the length of a tournament isn't enough time to get back into shape. Maybe that's where this is going.
