I highly doubt it will be up for any Oscar grabs
I join you in that doubt. I don't see this getting major noms at all.

Why take pleasure in this though? I feel like you've done this a lot over the past couple of months.
A lot of people saw a female lead, male minority co-star, and were hoping that both of their characters would be special representations in some way.
I'm happy for Daisy Ridley/Rey, most seem to be saying that she's great in this.
But I'm pretty disgusted to find that Finn is even *worse* then spoilers suggested. He legit sounds like a clown in this.
A step forward, as well as a step back.
Really hope this is just my own anxiety. And if it's not, then I hope that there IS a backlash that catches on...because I'd like to see something better from him in the sequels.
I think I saw Spike at the premier event last night...wonder what he was thinking lol.
He's basically both Han & Luke '77 at the same time, with the same flaws.
That info about Boyega's audition was a lie. They just asked how good he was a cleaning toilets.Which is why they gave the role to a black guy
You just described Luke at the end. Dude had a dead end awful job and desperately wanted off the planet. He didn't have a respectable job at all. He was a nobody in the middle of nowhere doing jack shit.Naw man. Luke was a respectable farmer with natural talents and a sense for adventure. Han was a cunning smuggler with swag for days. Finn that dude skinning potatoes in the galley during the invasion of normandy

does Han Solo die?

I don't want to be 100% spoiled so I don't want to scan the whole thread, but I do want to know one thing: does Han Solo die? Is it 100% confirmed?
How can he still not be a positive representation? Bobby said the character is competent Boyega is great in this.

Han Solo is easily the most beloved of the trio of the OT, no force at all.I'm not saying his character isn't positive or interesting, but there's a special appeal in a character that can use the Force.

Those two are so vastly different that I have no clue what to make of that.
I'm not saying his character isn't positive or interesting, I'm sure he's great and I'm sure he'll have his moments to shine, but there's a special appeal in a character that can use the Force.
But it's like Gandalf right? He's totally coming back like Gandalf? Gandalf.Yes.
Exuberance/naivete/innate goodness
Full of shit/Smartass/shortsighted
He learns quickly (Luke) Kicks his fair share of ass (Han) Makes dumb calls that get him put in shit situations (Han) blusters his way out of hit (Han) for all the right reasons (Luke) because he openly, obviously, gives a shit and doesn't care if you know it (Luke)
It's gotta be something though, yeah? They can't just do a "oh it's these random dudes" in 8 or 9.No clue as to Rey's parentage, honestly. I'm exactly where I was before I walked in the theater.

I feel like I woke up in an evil universe where Finn got done dirty worse than I ever could have imagined. Someone wake me up from this nightmare. Hoping Bobby is right about him.
Man the boycott Starwars guys are going to be salty with the Rey/Finn revelation that gets set up.

Nothing even ruling out her being a Solo?
Nothing even ruling out her being a Solo?
I'm not denying that, I'm not saying Finn can't be amazing, I'm not saying it is necessary for a character to be force-sensitive to be popular. I'm just saying that given the special appeal of a character with superpowers, some people will be disappointed and all things considered I probably won't find joy in those reactions.

I mean, if you wanna spin it that way, I guess you can.
I coulda rolled up in here and said "well, it's better than Into Darkness," and that would be true, but it doesn't say the same thing that I'm actually saying, though.
Yes.
Since Rey is basically John Cena, who can do it all including overpowering a so-called Jedi killer despite never picking up a lightsaber in her life, what kind of wrestling jobber would Finn be?
BronsonLee, help me out here. I'm thinking the Brooklyn Brawler.
The idea that every character has to have force powers to be interesting is what led us to the terrible CG spam that was the PTs to begin with!
Kenobi?
They can't dance around it and not have the answer have some sort of significance.

Can't believe no one asked! Bobby, you were one of the early Rey is Lukes kid believers. Obviously we get no clear answer this time but does your post-viewing belief still point this way?
So it's not talked about at all?
@ Bobby/Syriel, does this actually happen?
Nothing even ruling out her being a Solo?
