Yeah but as far as I can tell, you only get to use the Starkiller once. What happens the next time the First Order want to destroy a few planets? Move to another star?

And what about the science of depleting a star? I half expected everything to fall into complete darkness, yet for some reason it never happened. Wouldn't it also cause the planets to, say, fall out of orbit? Was the Starkiller in orbit, too? WHY THE FUCK DOES A PLANET THAT IS CLOSE ENOUGH TO SUCK THE ENERGY OUT OF A STAR HAVE SNOW?

Planets in orbit are "falling" towards the star, once the star disappears the planets just keep moving along their current trajectory. The snow could be caused by the atmosphere cooling as it moves through space. If it was close enough to a small star to suck its energy it could still easily be cold enough not to melt the snow.

But all this scientific talk is silly in a SW movie.

She also has an extremely powerful latent Force potential, where even without any kind of formal training she's pulling lightsabers through the air and mind tricking stormtroopers.

She's totally Luke's daughter.

Oh and she is a surprisingly good pilot too.

Loved it. It was everything I wanted it to be. Really happy those "spoilers" I read a year ago about Luke being evil and Rey becoming his apprentice turned out to not be true. During the making of Return of the Jedi, Ford fought with Lucas to have Han killed, so I wasn't really surprised at all.

Just got back from the theater. The audience was super into it, clapping and cheering to everything. But one thing that I really loved was when Luke was revealed, everyone went silent for the whole thing to the end. I thought that was a nice touch. Like we were all on the same page.

So Rey's background has to be revealed later. I guessed Han and Leia are her parents and so it's really brother vs sister as a parallel to father vs. son in the OT.

Just saw the film. Really loved it. Easily in the top 3 of SW films for me. Maybe higher once I think on it. Casting was top-notch around the board. The three leads were pretty much perfect.

For people saying Kylo looked weak, I think that was somewhat the point. He has great potential, which is why Snoke took him in, but he was held back the entire movie by the last light left in him, which he rid himself of when he killed Han. I think in Episode VIII we'll see him realize his potential fully and become significantly more powerful.

My only real complaint is that I felt that Phasma was woefully underdeveloped. Maybe they are just saving her for future films, but man she looked weak throughout the whole film. Let Finn escape. Got beaten when chasing the Falcon. Ambushed and controlled by Han and Finn. Then we don't see her again. Very disappointed by the treatment of that character.

I liked this. Feels less like a cartoon when the bad guys are shown to be at least a little human.
I also liked that the film didn't shy away from showing the heroes killing stormtroopers

I would agree if there weren't numerous scenes where the storm troopers were made to die in "comical" ways, nor did any of the characters reflect on the soul crushing nature of taking other human lives - in past movies they weren't required to because storm troopers were mindless drones bid to do evil; here it is instantly demonstrated that they are not.

Not a huge problem, just an odd tonal shift to think about. One considers that maybe Fin reflects his own situation when he pulls the trigger on other storm troopers.

What do you mean? Kylo Ren kills the new Jedi, Luke hides his daughter on Jakku to keep her away from him, then goes to the temple for reasons. She's waiting for her family to come pick her back up again because she doesn't know anything about this Jedi thing, and Luke doesn't really intend to because it would put her in danger. Or something like that.

This is what I'm thinking too. The combo of Han dying and Rey accepting the Force was likely enough of a combo for Luke to feel it was time to reveal himself.

She really is a Mary Sue. I like her a lot but her lack of flaws is in and of itself a flaw.

What should have happened in that interrogation was Kylo getting his way but then feeling a sudden push back that unsettled him and him report to Snoke to inform him.

What we got instead was Kylo talking shit, getting mentally beat and then running off like a bitch.

The duel in the forest was pretty disappointing too. Injured or not, Kylo should've had them both easily. Finn vs Kylo is what Rey vs Kylo should have been like. A short confrontation wherein she acquitted herself well - all things considered - but still ended up having to make a tactical retreat.

Rey fucking up Kylo really was the nadir for me.

My prediction is that she secretly hopes Luke is her father, that's why she seeks him out. Her hopes will be dashed during the training, but she must look past her personal issues and use her powers for good. ...man, it's fun to speculate!
