Yeah but as far as I can tell, you only get to use the Starkiller once. What happens the next time the First Order want to destroy a few planets? Move to another star?

And what about the science of depleting a star? I half expected everything to fall into complete darkness, yet for some reason it never happened. Wouldn't it also cause the planets to, say, fall out of orbit? Was the Starkiller in orbit, too? WHY THE FUCK DOES A PLANET THAT IS CLOSE ENOUGH TO SUCK THE ENERGY OUT OF A STAR HAVE SNOW?

Planets in orbit are "falling" towards the star, once the star disappears the planets just keep moving along their current trajectory. The snow could be caused by the atmosphere cooling as it moves through space. If it was close enough to a small star to suck its energy it could still easily be cold enough not to melt the snow.

But all this scientific talk is silly in a SW movie.

Rey chilling on Jakku reminded me of the predicament of Star Lord in the Guardians of the Galaxy movie. Leave us wondering who their all powerful parent is while we just watch them do badass stuff in their own rite.

Maul, Dooku, and Greivous were all wasted characters who had virtually no story or motivation.

Going into VIII they will have Hux, Phasma, and Kylo all with very obvious bones to pick with the main characters.

Especially Phasma, please just don't screw up Phasma....
Episode VIII: First Order Strikes Back

She has a vision of Luke and his Jedi Order being wiped out, and then being left on Jakku (dat poetry of a Skywalker being hidden on a desert planet for their safety), after touching Luke's lightsaber. She also has an extremely powerful latent Force potential, where even without any kind of formal training she's pulling lightsabers through the air and mind tricking stormtroopers.

She's totally Luke's daughter.
Oh and she is a surprisingly good pilot too.

Not Coruscant. The New Republic moved the capital to a new planet. I guess Coruscant could have been one one those others that got shat on though.
Yeah, it's on Chandrilla now. I wonder if what got destroyed was Chandrilla or not then. It'd be kind of weird to never even mention that planet and then destroy it though.

Loved it. It was everything I wanted it to be. Really happy those "spoilers" I read a year ago about Luke being evil and Rey becoming his apprentice turned out to not be true. I knew it sounded too stupid to be real but there was still a part of me that worried because of the lack of Hamill in the marketing.

Was it ever explained why R2D2 wakes up when he does?

Felt like it was completely separate to all the rest of the plot. Maybe I missed something?

That was a real pet peeve of mine. "Oh R2 powered down ever since Master Luke left", and then he just up and wakes up for no reason.

Holy Shit... They killed Han Solo :(

During the making of Return of the Jedi, Ford fought with Lucas to have Han killed, so I wasn't really surprised at all.

Just got back from the theater. The audience was super into it, clapping and cheering to everything. But one thing that I really loved was when Luke was revealed, everyone went silent for the whole thing to the end. I thought that was a nice touch. Like we were all on the same page.

Just got back. Great movie. Loved it.

So Rey's background has to be revealed later. I guessed Han and Leia are her parents and so it's really brother vs sister as a parallel to father vs. son in the OT.

Do we really think rey is Luke's kid? Like it makes sense but I don't like the idea of him seemingly selling her into slavery
It seems kinda too obvious? Like everyone's expecting it. I think it might be more powerful if she just turns out to be no one, her parents simply abandoned her for selfish reasons

Just saw the film. Really loved it. Easily in the top 3 of SW films for me. Maybe higher once I think on it. Casting was top-notch around the board. The three leads were pretty much perfect.

For people saying Kylo looked weak, I think that was somewhat the point. He has great potential, which is why Snoke took him in, but he was held back the entire movie by the last light left in him, which he rid himself of when he killed Han. I think in Episode VIII we'll see him realize his potential fully and become significantly more powerful.

My only real complaint is that I felt that Phasma was woefully underdeveloped. Maybe they are just saving her for future films, but man she looked weak throughout the whole film. Let Finn escape. Got beaten when chasing the Falcon. Ambushed and controlled by Han and Finn. Then we don't see her again. Very disappointed by the treatment of that character.

That was a real pet peeve of mine. "Oh R2 powered down ever since Master Luke left", and then he just up and wakes up for no reason.

He wakes up because Luke decides it is time to be found, likely as he feels the disturbance in the force and knows what shit has gone down with the resistance and Han.

It's spelled out quite clearly in the film why R2 woke up by what c3po said and the flashback showed Luke shutting R2 down.

Saying R2 woke up for no reason kinda shows you didn't pay attention.

I liked this. Feels less like a cartoon when the bad guys are shown to be at least a little human.
I also liked that the film didn't shy away from showing the heroes killing stormtroopers

I would agree if there weren't numerous scenes where the storm troopers were made to die in "comical" ways, nor did any of the characters reflect on the soul crushing nature of taking other human lives - in past movies they weren't required to because storm troopers were mindless drones bid to do evil; here it is instantly demonstrated that they are not.

Not a huge problem, just an odd tonal shift to think about. One considers that maybe Fin reflects his own situation when he pulls the trigger on other storm troopers.

Rey is OP jeez.

No training and she soundly defeats Kylo Ren.

Only the planet collapsing saved him.
Kylo had just been shot by a bowcaster, which blasted stormtroopers like five feet backwards. And slashed by Finn.
He also wasn't really trying to kill her, he makes it clear he wants to turn her to the dark side.

My showing clapped for the intro, Falcon, and Han/Chewy, then it died down. Leia, C3P0, R2-D2, and Luke was given no love. lol

They've got a lot of explaining to do with Rey. I really like her character, but I wanna know more. In terms of my favorite character, mother fucking Poe! He NEEDED more screen time.

Overall, I love this movie.

Yeah don't see what's so confusing about it.

Hope we see more of Poe and Finn teaming up in the next movie.

I assumed Luke felt Han die and acrivated R2... Since he was next to a little tombstone and looked remorseful (unless it was someone elses).

Edit: Ah, it was the tombstone of the jedi Kylo killed.

Doesn't seem to tie in with her waiting on Jakku for me.

She also gave zero fucks when Luke came up.

What do you mean? Kylo Ren kills the new Jedi, Luke hides his daughter on Jakku to keep her away from him, then goes to the temple for reasons. She's waiting for her family to come pick her back up again because she doesn't know anything about this Jedi thing, and Luke doesn't really intend to because it would put her in danger. Or something like that.

I assume once he knew shit hit the fan at the academy, he was protecting her by leaving her there. And eventually the Force would bring them back, knowing she wouldn't be there forever.

Like, his reveal was the one that everyone was waiting for, literally everyone in my theater was at the edge of their seats for his reveal. So dramatic.

I want Episode VIII already dammit!

This is what I'm thinking too. The combo of Han dying and Rey accepting the Force was likely enough of a combo for Luke to feel it was time to reveal himself.

I noticed Luke's lines from the second trailer was not in the movie.

"The Force is strong within you, my father has it, I have it, my sister has it; you have that power too."

Guess it was cut to make the ending scene shorter.

No. Those lines are from return of the Jedi. They're taken from the audio of that film.

She really is a Mary Sue. I like her a lot but her lack of flaws is in and of itself a flaw.

What should have happened in that interrogation was Kylo getting his way but then feeling a sudden push back that unsettled him and him report to Snoke to inform him.

What we got instead was Kylo talking shit, getting mentally beat and then running off like a bitch.

The duel in the forest was pretty disappointing too. Injured or not, Kylo should've had them both easily. Finn vs Kylo is what Rey vs Kylo should have been like. A short confrontation wherein she acquitted herself well - all things considered - but still ended up having to make a tactical retreat.

Rey fucking up Kylo really was the nadir for me.

Rey just figured things so quickly though. It was just too easy for her.

From escaping to figuring out light saber battling.

Why is it they are always trying to turn people to the dark side? If you fail, they kill you. If you succeed, they eventually kill you.

One of the things I loved: Chewie getting a direct hit, straight gut shot, on Ren for killing Han. What a great moment. I was half-worried that Chewie was going to sacrifice himself into blowing up the pillars then too.

Yeah honestly I think she isn't
My prediction is that she secretly hopes Luke is her father, that's why she seeks him out. Her hopes will be dashed during the training, but she must look past her personal issues and use her powers for good. ...man, it's fun to speculate! :D
