Applying for jobs is exhausting and soul-crushing

Just had an interview yesterday for a healthcare IT job. Was a panel interview but I think I did pretty well. The main contact said that there were a few other applicants that she has to interview as well on the way out. Not sure if I should take that as a sign I did bad or not. I sent a thank you email this morning but haven't heard back from her. I would really like to get this job since it would be a great experience for me. It is a software support position/helpdesk.. It seemed to be a more of an advanced helpdesk position though since from what it sounds like I would be able to dip my hands in a bunch of different technologies.

I graduate from my college this month in Computer Information Systems. If I don't get this then I really don't have many options right now.

I'm so fucking paranoid. I applied for a job. Got the interview and I thought I bombed it. But they sent an email saying congrats and they'll give me more info soon. But for whatever reason I'm in total disbelief. I keep expecting a follow up email saying "oops sorry wrong person". :(

1 week away from graduation, still don't have anything lined up. I'm on the roll at one temp agency, and submitted to my university's temp consideration thingy today. Have an interview next Friday for a fairly good FT position. Kind of worried, but not enough to put a damper on Star Wars hype/holiday fun.

Job application wants to know my entire work history as well as periods of unemployment. I'm 31. I've had a ton of crappy jobs and a few long standing good ones. Now I have to account for them all? Is there any online record I can reference for this info?

Not that I know of. That's kind of an unreasonable request - do they want to know about the job you had when you were 17 stocking shelves at a grocery store? I would list your last 3 positions or what you've done for the last 5 years. Or if you are also submitting a resume, just say "please see resume". I got really tired of jumping through BS hoops like that on applications. If they are making you do that much on an application, the actual job can't be that great. If it is a position where they need to do that far back for verification. they can do a background check.

I followed up with their HR and they said I should include ALL as requested. It's for a position as a Firefighter. I'm doing the physical agility test next Saturday and I have to have all my paper work in order by then.

I think my interview went decently today. Perhaps the slackest interview I ever had. Kind of got the impression they want someone else with more experience though

What position was it for? Yea don't worry if you feel you bombed it because it's just a feeling at the end of the day. It can happen vice versa as well, just try your best in the second round interview.

Who is interviewing you - everyone and the office cat? This kind of thing confuses me. HR and the hiring manager I can understand, and perhaps the manager of the team you'll be working in (if different from the hiring manager). But who else? If you get the job, will you actually be involved with these people much? Interviews these days feel way more complicated than the actual job will be.

Ended up being:

1: Phone interview with HR rep
2: Phone interview with hiring manager
3: Phone interview with hiring manager's manager (would've been in person but she was out of town)
4: In person interview (today) with VP over entire section (manager's manager's manager)
5: In person interview with manager parallel to hiring manager (below #3 interview)
6: In person interview with potential senior rep who would be my mentor/trainer
7: In person interview with QE Manager who my department interfaces with regularly
8: In person interview with HR Rep #2 - Electric Boogaloo
9: Hiring Manager took me to lunch

Every interview today ranged from good to great, and my colleague who recommended me talked to the VP between my first interview this morning and when I left, and he said he had a lot of positive things to say about me. I feel really good about it, though not necessarily that it was 100% slam dunk. I should hear back next week.

For now, though, I'm exhausted. Between not sleeping much last night and about 5 hours straight of being as "on" as I could be, this shit wiped me out. I've never experienced a process like this, but I've felt like it's gone as well as I could hope so far.

Thanks, man. It's not a big position like that. But yeah; I guess I'll just prep myself.

Yeah okay... I guess only having a few days notice isn't all that crazy really.
I'm late to this train, but it was similar for my first (which is almost my current, but soon to be former) job. I applied to the position on a Friday morning. Got an e-mail that afternoon about a phone interview on Monday. The phone interview was at 10 AM. At 10:30 AM, they asked if I could come in at 1 PM for an in-person interview. They let me know that I got the job the Friday after that. But I'd guess that my situation was unusual.

Anyone here work in the clinical trial industry/ pharma? I'm currently working as a project assistant doing data/doc analysis, it's very entry level, but it's ok so far. It's a CRO company, popular ones include PRA,PPD, Icon, Paralexel, and Covance.

Is this a good position/career to get into?

I've been applying to local government engineering jobs whenever possible, hopefully this is true.
Good luck man, hope it works out for you. As a general tip, be sure to check out all of the local government and government institutions around you. For example I first checked out the local cities big and small, then the county jobs, the local public school district, universities and hospitals, state and finally the federal jobs.

For whatever reason the job aggregate sites like Monster and Indeed rarely if ever show these jobs in their search results so it seems like there are far fewer applicants. My buddy who now does IT for the local library system got his job interview and offer within 2 days of applying cus he was the only one. Apparently the job offer has been open for months and extended several times but no one ever applied. He is working with old equipment and pretty bored but he is getting paid, gaining work experience and having the county pay for his IT certificates. He plans to move on but it seems like a good stepping stone to better jobs.

Can someone help me type up a email to send to this manager? The job don't do any online applications and only accept emails.

i'd recommend a nice opening sentence about yourself, then a neat list of your transferable skills, and then a finishing paragraph about attaching the resume and that if they need more just to ask and you'll send it.

Yeah that what I need help in: the opening sentence. I got the experience and even was a former employee of the company.

I've been in med devices and pharma for several years. As an industry it's not going to go away ever, and I find the work very rewarding from the standpoint of increasing quality of life for end users. Specifically I've been in the regulatory/QA space, and I find it to be a great place to be. My job won't get shipped over seas either, can't really just plug in someone from another country when it comes to interfacing with FDA and interpreting ever-changing regs.

I think I screwed up.. I went into college thinking criminal justice is what I wanted to do but after a situation that occurred a year ago I might have lost all interest in a career with law enforcement. I'm in the process right now for a position and although it's not guarenteed I just feel drained and completely unsure. What are my options outside of it? Possible office jobs that pay well?

Excellent.

Congratulations

Thanks!

Out of curiosity was the offer through a call, email or what?

I received a call this morning from HR, we spoke about the interview experience and they made an offer. I verbally accepted then got an e-mail with the offer in writing for me to sign, along with the usual background check, drug screening, etc. authorizations. Printed, filled out, scanned and returned.

I got my degree in Criminology where I was initially interested in pursuing law or law enforcement. I decided to do a complete career shift. I'm still young, so I am not the ideal person to answer your question. But I have shift my focus to public health, working for the government, and plan to acquire a master degree in Epidemiology once my contract is over. I neither work in an office nor get paid well but my career prospects are bright. So remain optimistic about the future!

Had a second interview with the company I mentioned earlier I wasn't crazy about.

Good news: doesn't require a lot of travel. Could theoretically keep dog. Projects usually take 6+ months, usually closer to eight or ten months.

Bad news: everything else they told me is like almost entirely against what I want from a job. You work in rural areas with closest civilizations (very small towns) usually being 20-30 minutes away, you work (from what I calculated) 60+ hours a week, including weekend work, for what I was being paid to do 40 hour work in my office position. You only get, officially, 4 days off a month. And with the irregular job length it means I'm gonna have a hard ass time finding a lease. They say that if you live nearby that you can live there instead, but with projects that aren't a year but close to it I'll have to pay month to month or pay an extra couple of months in a lease. 1 year+ I'd be fine with. But this irregular work and the huge hours for minimal pay?

Jesus. I can safely say I'll likely say no to this job offer if it gets offered. All I need from projects like these is that they're at least a year and closer to urban settings.

I got another update this evening. The hr recruiter emailed me again and said the manager still needs to meet with a few more candidates before he makes a choice. They also wanted to be sure that I know my status as a finalist. He'll update me again as soon as he has any relevant information.

I feel like I have a good chance still. The interviews all went really well and they've updated me twice in the two weeks it's been since the in-person interview.

Hopefully this works out. I really want to work at this company.

Just updating and have a question.

They were giving me weekly updates for the first two weeks after I interviewed about how the interview process was going for the position. Tomorrow, it will be two weeks since I last heard from and responded to them. Should I reach out to the HR recruiter again? At what point should I just let it be?

So in this second interview, they basically just asked me whether I'd like to work on a climate change journal, to which I said of course.

I was then just shown around the office and got taken out for tea by the other editors there.

I think things went well overall, it was very informal. I'm incredibly nervous though as this job would change my life in so many ways.

So after a couple of months, I finally got hired by a contractor to work as a application analyst in a hospital.

Interview went really well and the pay is well above what I earned before but the job is only 6 months.

Of course, they told me they can help me find work and "redeploying me" but its hard to be excited cause what if I'm back to square one after six months?

Asking GAF on how jobs like this goes? Still gonna look for work in the meantime but stuff like this keeps me on my toes for the wrong reason (job is easy but can't relax cause I might need to look for work again soon)

That's the worst. I thought about keeping a small text file w/ all that information handy but never got around to doing it b/c is fucking sucks.

I am also working in that same type scenario. (you wouldn't happen to be @ Northside Hospital in Atlanta, would you?)

I'm trying my damnest to make a great impression on these folks and hopefully be hired on as an FTE. Everyone here knows so much more than I do and I feel like i'm always behind the ball.

I haven't posted in this thread yet, so here is my siuation:

Last year in December I graduated with my Master degree in business chemistry and since then I was looking for jobs. During my university time I concentrated on graduating within the planned 5 years for the Master and wasn't able to get any work experience (big mistake).

After writing over 170 applications I finally was invited to two job interviews, the second one this Monday for a consulting position. It seems the interview went really well, since I got a positive feedback only a day later and now I have a written out job offer, which I will take. The first interviewers took there time to give feedback and today I got their negativ one.

After one year of unemployment, over 170 applications and 2 interviews I have finally found a job. It was a very frustrating time, because no one even was willing to give me a shot of showing of my personality and knowledge in person. I' very happy I can start my job in January.

There is hope for everyone, so don't give up GAF :)

"Your application e-mail has been opened: 1 times, last time was <time&date>"

This is the first time I've seen this line. After numerous applications for an entire year, I just now found out that the website i've been using even shows you this information.

...but yes it's super important to have a good cover letter. You need to put effort into it for the sake of all those people who won't even bother with opening the file.

I just finished up an interview with a few people that I think went very well. They were still going to interview a few more people today but I felt really good about my answers to their questions and their facial responses. I was the very first person they called and they allowed me to chose my interview time (I picked the first available slot) so that has to be a good sign right? They said they should have there decision made by next week. Christmas will either be fantastic or ruined.

anybody here want to critique my resume for me?

Note: Im applying to work at verizon

I'm not in HR or anything but I am in management and just went through a grueling recruiting process this year so I can take a look if you'd like.

Edit: I also had a couple of interviews with Verizon Wireless, one of which was at their HQ in Basking Ridge.

No MGH in Boston through a company called radstand
I sorta feel the same way ( show my work ethic and be a busy bee) so I can leave a good impression and my co-worker are the same as well but they told me I shouldn't worry
So.......let's hope

I need some advice. I have bsc in biology and I want to get my foot in the door at pharma/biotech companies.

I applied for a marketing internship at AMGEN (world's largest independent biotechnology firm). Sadly this position was already filled, but they really liked my application and offered me a 6 month paid "corporate affairs" internship. Basically helping with internal and external communication.

Do you think this is a good first step to get into the business side of things? Or should I continue to search for internships at a marketing position.

I am trying to get out of the laboratory into the business side of things.
