As long as she doesn't continue to be Boba Fett 2.0 we're good.

Difference between the two is Bob was a sleeper hit and not intended to be so, Phasma is on the fucking poster, in all the interviews, a part of most of the trailers, you cannot do that and be a bait and switch

Phasma is the on the poster, characters with more screen time are not, if it was deduced that was just to sell toys Disney would be fighting a PR nightmare, especially given how they are trotting her as a symbol of roles females are not getting in films.

"Hey here is our new character, a strong female character who isnt defined by her looks or relationships, she is a badass...but shes only in the film a combined 15 seconds and never fires her gun...girl power"

Nope, not buying it, big role in 8

He went silent when Luke, the last Jedi remaining in the galaxy, retreated to the far reaches of space. He woke up when Rey finally embraced her own nature and harnessed the force to fight against Ren. I'm sure the events will be connected and explained in the next film, even if it was designed as a simple narrative trigger to allow the characters to get to Luke after the final battle in this movie.

R2D2 is force sensitive confirmed.

So is Kylo Renn a sith? Seems speculation.

Like we all know that Rey is force sensitive or whatever, but that doesn't mean she will end up being the Jedi.

Episode IX: He's a Sith

The whole First Order was incredibly weak. Snoke looked like bad CGI and was just a cheesy Emperor analogue. But everything about the First Order felt cheap. The outfits looked cheap, the set dressing looked cheap. They felt more like a comic book villain like Hydra or Cobra Command than remnants of the Empire.

I thought that was kind of the point. They're no longer the Empire, they're a regional fascist government facing an internal resistance supported by the opposing galactic hegemony. Everything about them, from Kylo Ren on down, can be related to their obsession with their lost glory and past greatness. Even the Starkiller base is a massive overcompensation for their own inadequacy. They're like terrorist skinheads obsessed with Hitler.

Fantastic movie. So many good scenes and new characters. Need to see it again tbh.

Even though I expected something Luke, I wasn't sure if he whould be in this movie, I was pretty casual about his possible appearance. No big expectations, no Luke hype at all but damn the final scene had me like:

I loved the movie, but my biggest disappointment is Finn seemingly not being Jedi material. I guess Rey was supposed to be surprise? But from the beginning, they both seemed like they could use the force. I loved the idea of having 2, so if it really is just her....I don't like that. I also don't like the continuing idea of how damn important bloodline is. Everyone should have the ability to use the force at this point. Why is it only Skywalkers/Kenobis/whatever are tuned to it?

Because all of the other Jedi were killed off...

If Rey has random parents who then have to invent a reason why she's significant enough that Luke's light saber "called to her"

Well, I think that's what makes the Force so special...only a few people are sensitive to it, and even fewer people can actually truly master it.

And it's not just the Skywalkers / Kenobi. Yoda, Dooku, Snoke, all of the Jedi in the prequels, Maul, etc.

I am not 100% sure of this, but I'm fairly certain Finn is not force sensitive at all. The movie's justification for his dueling abilities seems to be a lifetime of stormtrooper training (they even showed that stormtroopers do melee combat).

Yup. It's a somewhat common trope where an offshoot of a fallen organization sprouts up from the ground, and it's basically all of the negative principles of that organization taken to an extreme. It makes perfect sense for them to be far less subtle.

The novel hints about Rey's relationship with Luke/Han/Leia when she succeeds in getting the saber using the force instead of Ren....

....she gazed down at the weapon now resting in her hand.
"It is you" Ren murmured
His words unsettled her. Not for the first time, he seemed to know more about her than she did about herself.

I was secretly hoping that BB-8 would end up being the Jedi, but as Solo said, that's not how the force works.

I STILL can't believe they made Finn say "Droid PLEASE"; they knew exactly what they were doing.

I'll say it again: Finn was the shit. My favorite character and by far the freshest character of the ones introduced. Rey and Poe are also awesome, but Finn doesn't fit into an existing character role as well as the others.

Here's hoping he and Poe team up next movie to battle some crazy, pirate-esque villain played by Del Toro.

Where is this from? Amazon doesn't list the novel as coming out until after the 25th of the month...

I dunno if I really care that much to stick around in the spoiler thread talking about plot points in the movie because most of it is so obvious in intent that there really isn't much analysis required, but I will say that I loved the characterization of Kylo Ren. It's the one clever thing in the entire movie which is otherwise just ANH for the current generation with more diversity and gender equality. Taking a Darth Vader stand in character and making him a try-hard young punk who WANTS to be a Darth Vader stand in instead worked great. The casting was amazing too. He reminded me so much of a young Snape from Harry Potter. He would have been a great Anakin in the PT.

I don't think him losing at the end was particularly weird either, because they did a good job of showing that he wasn't really a great Sith warrior like Vader was throughout the film. Every time anything went wrong, he would lose his cool and just rage out and everyone around him would be rolling their eyes. He has no real respect from the First Order, and they just tolerate him because of his force affinity and because he's Snorke's disciple. So it comes as no surprise that when push comes to shove and he has to actually fight another force user, he just chokes hard.

i see what you did there

honestly though, i agree. dude was mad over-compensating and it's a very compelling and interesting take on a villain

by the way, i'm really enjoying reading your posts in the thread, duckroll

There is no way, absolutely no way, Phasma is not a presence in 8, I think her motivation is hunting down Finn, I think it has become personal now and she will fuck him up.

Didn't make sense why they didn't just kill her.

They blew up the planet with likely thousands of other Troopers.

It is kind of funny how Finn was so traumatized by a fellow stormtrooper dying that be became a traitor and killed a whole bunch of them.

Another bit of misdirection in the trailer which seemed to imply that he was awakening to the force and not having a crisis of conscience. We could have used a little bit more backstory on his decision to not only defect but aid an abet an enemy captive

They should have set that up earlier, like show him sparring with another trooper or at least have him armed with one of those stun blade things so we know he can handle himself.

Shit, I'm feeling Han's death more than I thought I would. This is a sad day. :/

And Chewie moves on reaaallly quickly. Suddenly he's sidekicking in the Falcon for a young girl he just met five seconds ago.

They should have set that up earlier, like show him sparring with another trooper or at least have him armed with one of those stun blade things so we know he can handle himself.

They set it up by showing him fight a stomtrooper in melee combat. That was there to help try and explain how he lasted as long as he did against a sith (or whatever sith are called in this movie).

Finn is a badass. He is an emotional guy who started off as a Janitor and then actually puts up a good lightsaber fight and becomes a hero.

Finn and Poe were both really good characters. Still have mixed feelings on Rey, though most is confusion.

Really curious if the novelization will have additional stuff. Shame it won't be out for a while yet.

Yeah I'm also intrigued by this since it's obvious a fair bit was cut / reworked.

Additionally when I read the ROTS novel, I found it really add a lot of detail about the finer points of Anakin's fall and Obi Wan's emotions during the duel. It was honestly pretty good.

Yeah. I get that. I just don't like that of the originals, and now this new one, it seems we're going down a path that really hits home how much you've gotta have those good genetics. No mudbloods, if you get my drift. I'm not a fan of that---IF Rey is a Skywalker. At this point, I'd really prefer her parents weren't jedi of any kind.

It's just fan-fiction about Rey's bloodline. I think she's not related to any of them, personally.
I really hope this is true.

So who was the guy at the very beginning of the movie who gave the map piece to Poe? He knew Ren was Solo's son and I got the feeling he might've been someone from the OT but I didn't recognize him. Wedge, maybe?
