So we're gonna have a scene where Luke will tell Rey "Rey... I'm your father."?

Also, anyone noticed how it's possibly implied that Ren already knew about Rey?

1- When they captured her, when he meets her, he says something along the lines of "Finally, the girl I've heard so much about."

2- He basically asks her to join him, because he knows she's force sensitive, but possibly because he knows more than that too.
In response to 1, I also thought that too but was willing to dismiss it as him recalling her as the girl that made destroy that control panel when the subordinate broke the news to him of her role in the escape.

Thats what a lot of us are assuming. ASSUMING

that sounds pretty arrogant tbh. It's not that obvious. I'd be careful with that theory because It'd be a REALLY lazy twist, especially since we already HAD a "character A is character B's kid" situation in TFA.

All that is implied is that Rey has a deeper connection to Luke than she was aware of. Beyond that it's purely speculation.

Thats fair i guess.

The lightsaber went from father to son and that it could be going from father to daughter.

Fuck I want the next movie already.

He also lost his shit when the guy tells him a girl helped the droid and the rogue trooper escape.

So what's the likelihood that Snoke is going to push Kylo too hard and the dude's just going to snap and slice him to ribbons. He has one hell of a temper

Oh, and we better get a a fight scene with Luke and Rey versus the Knights.

It's almost inevitable that in either VIII or IX there will be a fight between Kylo and Luke where Luke reveals that Vader turned back to the light before his death. Cue temper tantrum.

Sorry guys i know it would have been asked a few times before but who is the old man/ally that gives the map to Poe Dameron at the beginning?

Thanks :)

The puns were great in the first half of the movie like Rey with a look on her face ready to stab Finn when BB-8 tells her that he had Poe's jacket.

It got out of hand however when they escaped Han's enemies and that weird tentacle monster. "It looks like that." It was like 5 or 6 puns in a row, so cringy.

Those aren't puns.

This, and didn't he seem to freak out even more when one of his officers informed him that there was "a girl" accompanying Finn on the ship that left Jakku?

yeah, that would be a deduction a 6 year old could make (no offense), just saying it'd be a reveal already ruined if, 2 days after the first part, there was already such clear evidence of Rey's origin.

JJ is all about secrecy and not giving away too much. You think he'd just put it out there and have Rian Johnson do a reveal that everyone saw coming for 1 1/2 years?

Not JJ.

I'm not really sure anymore. He felt weak and really didn't look like a vilain but now I see that's the reason why I should like him.
Yup.

When Rey is being interrogated by Ren, she says that he's a monster in a helmet. When he takes it off, he isn't.

He looks like a regular dude.

The falling object you see in ESB is not the Saber.

In the script it's a broken weathervane.

In the novelisation it's a broken piece of weathervane.

In conclusion. Its a broken piece of weathervane and not the saber.

Thank you! It didn't even look like a saber, trying to convince people was too much work. Crisis averted.

yeah, it's "the girl who took the droid and who escaped in the millennium falcon"

It'd be interesting if we saw a reverse dynamic to Luke/Vader with Ben/Luke, Ben resisting the light side and having multiple confrontations with his uncle. Who knows if it would go that way, just thinking and speculating out loud.

Yeah I felt like I was supposed to know who he was, but I didn't. Maybe he'll be set up in Rogue One?

Also, I really hope Rey isn't Luke's daughter. I hope she just happens to be a force sensitive person.

I wonder if perhaps the plan is kill off one OT character per movie. Kind of as a way to pass the torch.

My guess Leia in 8. This could give us our tragic Empire ending.

Luke in 9. This could give us a Heroic self sacrifice or Yoda type of Death.

Maybe Han's Death is just part of a master plan.

Man luke looked broken at the end.

Nephew goes on a rampage, kills are your students and destroys your temple. You have to run for your life.

Yep, that would do it. He probably feels like a failure because he was trying to do what Yoda told him and that was "pass on what you have learned." That will be fixed in Ep8.

That concept art doe...

I think I want to pick up this art book.

My gut feeling is Luke spent the last 20 odd years in exile hunting down the other knights

Nah it was great. Got big laughs. Unfortunately a lot of Finn's comedy fell flat for me

What's the musical cue that plays when Rey force grabs the saber in the duel? That shit was HYPE

That was the same cue that played when Luke discovered his aunt and uncle's charred bodies in IV. If you think about it that way it's weird, but on a visual and audio level it was amazing. I'd link it but I'm on my phone.

Han had to be killed because Ford wanted Han dead for a while.
Also because Han's character doesn't age well, just like Indiana Jones :P

A General and a Wise old Sage can always be played by some old person. Those are roles that don't involve a lot of action and physicality.
Watching an old dude run from space aliens, punching a dude in the face looked kinda off. His best scenes were the ones where he just shot his blaster and exchanged one-liners with Chewie.

Was I the only one who found it odd how casually Rey understood both astromech speak and Wookiee speak?
She low-key reminds me of a more naive Jedi Exile from the KOTOR series. Just naturally gifted and relearning her strengths that she had (theory-hat time) removed from her mind. Minus the death of the force shit though.

Heh. I like the idea of Luke being the boogeyman for evil jedi.

"Remember, apprentice, always let the hate flow through you or one day, Skywalker will get you."

Any EU fans notice any rectors on the old material? I've never read a single EU thing in my life but I'm sure I've heard one about Han and Leia's children.

The old EU is dead and buried. Over. Done. It's not a matter of "noticing retcons", you couldn't pick a single thing they kept, because they've already de-canonised all of it.

Was I the only one who found it odd how casually Rey understood both astromech speak and Wookiee speak?

Rey's clearly been through some shit on Jaaku.

It won't be a surprise to Kylo. That was a good theory/speculation when everybody though Kylo was character without blood connection with the old characters, just a Darth Vader fanboy.

Why he continued to idolize the Sith and evil version of his grandpa even with Luke's training and knowledge about it is something I really want to know.

She grew up on a planet with quite the melting pot of alien types, her knowing a lot of languages is probably key to her survival and success.

bingo.

Luke was fine with speaking only english (human) because he had plenty of english speaking friends and family.
Rey doesn't. She simply can't afford not knowing what someone around her might be saying about her.

and is a master pilot and mechanic* despite never leaving the planet, expert marksman despite seemingly never having fired a gun before, already reasonably good at using the force despite just having learned about it and not knowing how it works or how to do the mind control trick, already beat someone in a light saber duel on the first try who possibly had decades of training (but was wounded, granted). She's super Marry Sue at the moment, but I guess we'll get an explanation for her incredible talent in everything she does at some point

*she might have picked up a thing or two from scavenging, okay, but she's got a lot of intuitive knowledge about all sorts of different ship types

Not sure if its been brought up much but is anyone else disappointed in those guys from The Raid 2 not getting to whoop some ass and just get gobbled by that CG monster? I thought those guys were guna be the Knights of Ren or something and fuck shit up.

I just watched an interview where he seemed to indicate Kylo is aware Vader was seduced by the Light, hence his fear it will happen to him as well. He wants to surpass Vader and do what he never could by going further into the Dark Side of the Force.

Who always the "old ally" at the beginning?

How the fuck did that planet gun reload? It ate a sun, killed the Republic, then... how'd it get a new sun? That thing was dumb.

I don't get the relationship between Empire and Order not between Republic and Resitance.

That was the same cue that played when Luke discovered his aunt and uncle's charred bodies in IV. If you think about it that way it's weird, but on a visual and audio level it was amazing. I'd link it but I'm on my phone.

Yep.

I first suspected it when I heard it in the theatre, and just confirmed it now.

Around the 1:30 mark

My take on why that particular cue was used is that they played into the symbolism of when Luke and Rey both decided to accept their destiny. Going back home and seeing his folks burnt to a crisp made Luke realized that it was time to join Ben and begin his training. Rey seeing Finn KO'ed made her realize that she had to stop running from the lightsaber and her past/future.

Also wtf Deus Ex D2? Why did she waked up? Did someone tell her Rey is a Cool Babe who should meet Luke?

That whole section was p pointless.

I don't think it was meant to reload. Seems like it was designed to take out the Republic government and the Resistance.

And well, I imagine the galaxy will be in absolute chaos in Ep 8. I guess the Resistance and Leia will rise as de facto galactic leaders, known that the center of the government is destroyed

After watching the movie, and giving the soundtrack a quick listen now, this is easily the worst Star Wars score from John Williams. The man really doesn't have it anymore. 2005 was his last great year. It feels fresh out of ideas, just like the movie the soundtrack belongs to.

Episode 3's soundtrack was on a completely different level to this
, and didn't resort to constantly reusing old themes. At some point that just felt like too much here, and deeply unearned.

People hated on me when I said the man was over the hill some months ago, but man at this rate I kinda believe even Giachinno's hypothetical arrangements of the old themes probably would've had more creativity in them. Hell, I liked the one in the trailer better than any of the ones in the movie. I guess fanboy backlash and tradition is more important.
