Street Fighter V Beta 3 Thread: For when Star Wars is sold out.

What they need is a good tutorial that teaches the fundamental strategy of how to play Street Fighter. A VF4:Evo level tutorial that actually goes over facets of playing Street Fighter against human opponents at a level above spamming sweep and DP.

Except that won't solve the rage quit problem at all. Let me get to CJ:

BlazBlue has ridiculously detailed tutorials as well, including FTG terminology.

Except that:

I still don't know any of the terminology. Every time I'm in a fighting game thread, I get so lost.

DING DING DING DING DING DING. You win a

car!

"This move is good because it has OTG properties and allows you anti-air from neutral."

"Oh... tee... gee? Anti-air? Neutrahllll? Wuhh? Whoo? Wuzza????" Tutorials are good at explaining mechanics. Tutorials aren't good at getting you to understand the mechanics. I haven't tried VF4's. But Blazblue's while decent at explaining mechanics is horrible at getting you understand them. Same with the new Guilty Gear. I did that one earlier this week and for the life of me, I can't tell you what any of the new systems do. How is that good?

And to get back to Techno: Yes, a tutorial to get people comfortable may be better than sitting in AI/single-player modes all the time. But when you're matched against people that are literally 1000+ ranked (as I've been) that are able to "frame-trap" (I guess stop you from being able to even get into a block animation?) you consistantly and repeatedly? That's not fun, that's not going to get new players to learn anything other than "well, that's bullshit. *turns the game off/uninstalls*"

That's not to throw in that online play does not teach offline play due to "lag tactics" and other bullshit that is allowed in online. Throw in online frame-delay to where your side may feel like you're wading through molasses while the other side is able to perfectly play and...

I can't blame people for playing offline. It's what I do. At this point, I just hope Capcom has a reasonable method of getting the content without having to deal with better players/online/etc. rage. Otherwise I should probably refund it on Steam pronto and just play Guilty Gear offline.

Back in my day we didn't have a training dummy. We learned by getting beat up. You can too!

Oh, I know. My problem is mostly due to online lag. Well that and knowing I'm already going go to be beaten before the match begins. ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°) I've just given up on the idea of winning and would like to be left the fuck alone to smash buttons with characters that aren't Ryu so I can actually attempt to find a character I like during this period.

Laura throwing shades.

I laughed hard at that. But I don't understand V-comment. During V-trigger? Victory Comment? The joys of fighting games having similar terms thrown into a blender to be confusing.

Finally able to play the Beta and then:

Me(Chun) vs MLSwear (Necalli) #1

Me(Chun) vs MLSwear(Necalli) #2

Had 3 total matches against him and all 3 were very challenging and entertaining matches, every time a Necalli popped after I played him I was like "oh fuck it's MLSwear AGAIN" before it showed the name. Wish I remembered to record the 3rd match, oh well.

Thanks for posting man, really nice Chun play. Great use of the air kick special. Dat comeback.

She's one of the characters I'm considering to main first.

After finishing the tutorial, I got a warning telling me that at any time while playing solo or training, they can call me for an online match. How to disable such intrusion?

You can't unless paused. Also, you just faced me lol (chun li) called catbutt.

This is an online beta to test and improve the online.

You can't turn it off during the beta, because that's what Capcom is testing.

Obviously, though, in the final game you will be able to.

If I can't even pull off a three hit combo in SF4, I should probably stay far away this right?

I mean, SFV looks entertaining as hell, but seeing as how SF4 doesn't give a single fuck about newcomers, I probably won't make it very far here.

The combo timing is a lot more lenient in SfV. A lot of characters even have very useful target combos to make things even simpler for newcomers.

to ryu players

how does ryu follow up after doing st. mp, st. mp on a crouching opponent (can't do st. hp, st. hk as st. hk whiffs on a crouching opponent)? i have a couple of ideas but not sure if it's optimal or safe like should i:
a) just end it with st. hp? is the move safe on hit?
b) cancel the second st. mp into a fireball?

This game is being made with both new comers and veterans in mind so they're really boiling it down to fundamentals. Someone who has a good grasp on the fundamentals of fighting games will beat someone who only knows how to do the sickest combos.

You should give it a shot.

This game is very noob friendly imo. Give it a try.

Huh? Dude, SF4 gives the most "fucks" about newcomers more than pretty much all the other SF titles. Its a very easy fighter to get into, just hard to become intermediate or higher.

-Jumps are good since some AA's are still prone to trade
-Mash jab to get out of tick setups
-Mash tech to get out of throws
-Use ultra as a comeback threat
-Use random focus to catch people sleeping

I honestly don't know what more you could want to make it easier. Take some time to really learn one character, I guarantee you'll see that its not a hard game to get into.

It's much more approachable than 4. Combos are shorter and have more lenient timing.

oh snap forgot to put in the punches and kicks sorry bout that let me edit that lmao

Edit:
1. S.LP x S.MP Sonic Scythe M
2 Cr.MP x Cr. MP Tragedy Assault L
3. Cr.MP x S.MP Sonic Scythe M or H

Sonic Scythe M can be canceled into his super
Thank you very much. I'm gonna see if I can practice it in Training. :)

All kicks and punches have three strengths, hence six buttons. The other two are extra fluff you can map to whatever.

Yeah I know that. It just didn't say if I were supposed to use Kick or Punch, as he forgot.

Lp Target combo -> qcb+HK
I assume that stands for something along Quarter Crouch Back + High Kick?

Cool with Necali if you react or make a read to someone jumping with his Neutral jump mp you can combo off it

Nice for catching with cross up set ups into Super

Just had the worst roll back with the net code. Did a spd, camera did a split second change, then returned to normal view with ryu on the other side of the screen hitting me with hadoken.

Awesome.

Yeah, I should learn how to read properly. Also that's quarter circle back/forward (from your perspective).
