It's not a question of being undefeated but there is simply a lack of substance in these mechanics. I'm still discovering new things in SF4 after several years of playing.

I don't want to put SF5 down. The game is pretty fun to play but I don't see any reason why I would really invest 1000+ hours into this like I have with SF4.
Are you confusing depth and substance with combos?

Bah I'm so rusty, can only scrub out wins using Ryu.

This game is just too simple, there is no substance behind any of these characters.

I've played with Laura for two hours and I feel like I know nearly everything. There is no longevity for this game if they don't drastically change these mechanics.

The visual appeal is definitely there but SF5 feels like some party-game. Tournaments will be nothing but counter.pick fests, because good players WILL know how to play every character after a few weeks.

Change a few words around and it's 2007 all over again.

You're so good, man. I'm impressed!

I'm not good, there is no need to be snarky. I'm just saying that it doesn't feel like the mechanics leave a lot of room for imagination at the moment.

Hopefully they make some adjustments in time. Game looks really nice and is appealing in many ways.

That is definitely a valid point but I'm not the only having this opinion. Players like Infiltration seem to share my point of view. I just hope that they will mix things around come release date.

Ok so I've been knocked down by a Ryu and he's standing right next to me.
I'm afraid to tech because if I do, his st.MP will beat me hard every time, but if I don't tech I will get grabbed. WTF do I do?

I need to figure out some good uses for Vega's slash special. I never use it and I feel like there's some secret behind the ex version I don't know about. Without the frame data it's really hard to say.

Same goes for his V-Skill. It goes through some normals but the window is pretty unclear.

ST is simpler than this and people were finding new tech a decade into the game.

I'm just not clicking with anyone in this game so far other then Ken. I pick the rest and it's on and off on and off. More off than on. Get dominated when I shouldn't. A win here and there. I pick Ken and I win 15 times in a row.

Not sure what's going on but I can't get a consistent handle on anyone else. Obviously Ryu is ok for me since they have similarities.

It's not a question of being undefeated; there is simply a lack of substance in these mechanics. Very little variety in combos and it feels like everything is spoon-fed to players. I'm still discovering new things in SF4 after several years of playing.

SF4 wasn't built in one day. People need to stop thinking that you can figure out a game in a couple days.

Guys, gief is always amazing week 1 and sim is always terrible week 1. Give it a chance and learn how the armor stuff works.

(Dem v-triggers tho)

Your posts make it pretty clear that you don't know what you are talking about.
It's fine if you don't like the game, but I promise you haven't even discovered half of what Laura has to offer.

Day one online Zangief is going to be a bigger problem than he ever was in SF4, haha. His V-Skill in particular is just new player rat poison.

Players like Infiltration can be wrong. We're already finding option selects, Laura tech is being figured out.

Let the game breathe.

Birdie is my pick for secret top tier.
+He wants to get in, but if you keep him at bay he'll just donut up / throw a can
+Insane normals (great range, decent startup, one even has armor)
+Above average health.
+Threat of command grab.
-You're Birdie, a big tub of lard that can get fuzzy guarded I'm assuming.

I have no clue what the point of Nash's V-trigger is.
Really? One free mixup/combo extension or get out of the corner card.

EX version is invincible on startup. Godlike anti-air.
Hmm...

Despite many mashing attempts, I never once dodged a normal with his V-Skill. :-/
.

It might only be upper body invincibility, but I've definitely gone through normals with it. I doubt mashing works because the v-skill has a lot of startup where you just get hit by everything. It's a challenge going through fireballs at the range it hits consistently.

I haven't had trouble with the V-Skill yet.

1) Escape.
2) Teleport mixup.
3) Combo extension.
4) Fireball punish on reaction.

It's pretty versatile.

I've dodged fireballs with it, but I've never dodge + punished a normal with it. I should have been more clear. Have you ever successfully gotten the claw swipe punish off after dodging a normal?

What combo extension? I honestly haven't seen a point beyond the first two and even then throwing out a 214+HK will probably get you out of that.

HardRojo said:
I hardly use it now. Mainly to punish random fireballs or to try and get a quick shitty mixup. I've tried using it during combos but I feel it works better as a deterrent for now.

Well that brings up another thing what is the point of MP+MK the "projectile whatever" move? It's supposed to be a parry or something? I couldn't figure that out in training.

Top players are wrong all the time.

you can do LP -MP - fireball -> teleport -> LP -> MP -> sonic scythe.

ansd thats a very basic one. I've seen some crazy juggle ones.

Top players are wrong all the time.

Yeah, you might be correct.

I should definitely give the game more time. I guess I'm just a bit disappointed that everything is a lot easier to execute now that its clouding my judgment. I do like the game in many ways though. Brazil stage is sweet!

Yeah but you're not really a new player. Dudes starting with SF5 are going to get knocked down and flexed on all day.
True.

Here is my super crappy Nash combo video that shows you:

MP+MK absorbs projectiles.
Cammy's drill ends way before the animation does, so if you punish it after she stops you'll get hit by the reversal. Just block it and start mashing whatever until you get the timing down.
the answer is mashing?

great

i love mashing

It is good as a combo extender. You'll mainly use it after a fireball, then toward V Trigger, j.HP, cr.MP, cr.MP xx whatever.
The V Skill can be used to absorb fireballs and as a weird antiair (but you need to space yourself well for this).
