[SPOILERS] Star Wars: The Force Awakens (Thread #2) - One Thumb Up

Didn't Ben's parents and even Skywalker tell him that in the end his father repented and even became a force ghost and another thing why didn't force ghost Vader step in and smack Ben in the back of the head the minute he started wanting to know about the dark side? This bugs me a lot, Kylo knows his heritage obviously then why didn't he now it turns out bad in the end for the dark side always? He talks to Vader or at least he thinks he's talking to Vader for guidance which is silly because Vader isn't bad anymore.
Perhaps Force ghosts appear only to those who seek guidance and Kylo isn't seeking guidance from the good Anakin but the evil Vader (who apparently no longer exists). Maybe Anakin did appear to him and Snoke convinced him it was a trick.

I'm guessing Luke in his training over the past 15 years or so has extensively contacted Anakin, Obi-Wan, Yoda and even Qui-Gon.

Other than a clear difference in acting ability. I don't see how Kylo Ren is any more sympathetic than Anakin was. Is it just prequel hate? I think they're both pretty similar angsty villains.

Kylo's angst is actually justified, whereas Anakin is just angsty for the sake of being angsty.

Rey being a Kenobi also makes sense because the name Luke Skywalker doesn't seem to make her go "oh hey I had that Surname too".

Whereas if she's the grand daughter/Neice of Kenobi, his surname isn't mentioned in TFA, and maybe Kenobi is not mentioned in the Stories about the Jedi Rey/Finn have heard etc.

Or maybe she did know of her grandad, but only as Ben Kenobi but not Obi-Wan that's in the Stories.

Sorry tired ramblings if it don't make sense.

I think Rey knowing about Skyealker and Solo and then going for the mind trick is enough to infer she probably knows about Ben, too. She might not know him by name, but she has heard a version of that story.

Did Boba even do anything in the second movie? More than Phasma?

The real answer is "no". He gets credit for tracking the Falcon to Bespin and then he loads Han into his ship.

The Wikipedia for Empire is hilarious though. "Boba Fett, a Mandalorian bounty hunter who has gained infamy throughout the galaxy and worked in the past with Darth Vader, who now assigns him to hunt down the Millennium Falcon and transport Han to Jabba the Hutt." Boba is all reputation, little action.

But on the other hand, reputation is more than Phasma even gets...

Anakin was a whiny childish asshole who is treated like a powerful and noble and respected Jedi. Kylo is a whiny childish asshole who is treated like a whiny childish asshole, but with the potential to become greater than what he is.

Pretty good, I guess, but I can't shake that it was just a reskin of IV. Not that IV is bad mind you, and some really great call backs to the other episodes and Finn/Ray/Poe stole the show, but...

It was too much like IV.

Also no way Han stays dead. Disney about that $$$.

Did Kylo go to Endor for the Vader helmet? Did Luke take it after the funeral pyre and Kylo stole it from the academy?

I guess that's a story for EU.

It would be freaky if he goes bezerk at the academy with the Vader mask on.

So how old was Kylo Ren when he betrayed Luke? Info must've slipped by when I was watching.

Kylo Ren is 29-30 in TFA and Rey is 19-20 so if the reason Rey is abandoned is in fact due to the events with him then going by how old Rey looked in the vision it happened somewhere around 15 years prior.

I think what was rather annoying about that Coruscant-looking planet blowing up was that they don't tell you anything about these planets other than them being the center of the Republic, and since Coruscant was the capital of the old Republic, I immediately assumed the planet that looked like Coruscant was Coruscant.

I really think they should have just blown up Coruscant.

I don't really know much about Star Wars, but does the force allow for memory wipes and stuff? I thought Old Ben said it only worked on the weak-minded or something.
Before the Expanded Universe got nuked, it was definitely a thing that could happen.

Going by just the movies now, it'll be a totally new occurrence.

jesus i need to see this movie again immediately

dunno what it is about it, but ive never craved a rewatch so badly

loved it for the most part, a bit too familiar, some unnecessary fan service, a couple moments that fell flat - but overall it was a total blast, made me feel like a kid again

Just got back from my second viewing. Paid more attention to the Ren fight. Not sure how people think he could've won. Dude was shot in the abdomen by Chewie, then gashed across his dominant shoulder by Finn. Yes he beat the hell out of Finn, but that was pretty much his limit imo. He was too injured to chase down Rey and also defeat her. He's honestly should be thanking Poe for his life, because he should be dead.

Are we all in agreement the Rey is the daughter of Luke and Obi Wan Kenobi's daughter?

Yeah?

Ok.

Luke, who's otherwise only shown attraction to his own sister by his unknown father, bones down with his surrogate father's daughter: in effect, his surrogate sister?

It's poetry, it rhymes
with "bincest"
.

I think we need some more appreciation for that random stormtrooper Finn fights. Considering how Finn manages to land some blows on Vader 2.0, that stormtrooper is probably the most badass guy in the galaxy. RIP.

Need to see if there was a really traumatic experience that broke him in the sequel because right now he's trending toward being a bigger bitch than Anakin ever was.

Me too, like fucking withdrawal symptoms

Kenobi was in tatooine the whole time after ep3, how is he making babies?

Maybe Satine had a child with him and never told poor Ben?

That's the only way it works. It's upsetting if, after seeing his best friend brought low by his lust for Padme, he goes on a bone-spree in exile. That's a Big Damn Complicated Character Thing to do offscreen...

I don't remember any visions, I hope I didn't choose the worst possible time to go pee. I got up to go when they went into Cantina 2.0
I know the feel man. Next time I go see this movie I'm thinking of catching an early matinee and not eating or drinking much before so I don't have to use the bathroom partway through.

It was Finn's version of Obi-Wan.

Thanks to that battle he leveled up and was able to get in some ESB hits on Kylo.

Unlike a missing hand, Fin needs a new spine
