yes ofcourse, that's not what I'm saying though. It didn't have ambience, it didn't fit into the soundmix (at my theater), it sounded flat, as if recorded on a bad mike, or played back on a mobilephone speaker. It was the same with some other "post production" voices. IIRC I thought the Maz also sounded "off" at times.

So I'm leaning towards the soundmix messing up at my theater then.

Did C-3PO sound weirdly high pitched to anyone else

His voice was off despite it being the same guy. I think they messed that up a bit

My guess about Luke is this: His exile isn't just out of shame and regret for what happened, It's also about his lack of information on how jedi training is suppose to go.

He's no master Jedi with years of formal training and doctrine, and his attempts to train a group of students ended in disaster at the hands of one of his own blood.

Given the empire, and vader, probably gathered and destroyed much of the Jedi's knowledge, he sets off for the original temple hoping that this journey will fill in the gaps, and make him into the master he needs to be to restart the jedi order properly.

Kylo is in a similar boat. He's playing at Sith lord, like his grandfather, but lacks the full training, battlefield experience, and so on that Vader had. He's just a young man wavering between the light and the dark, mimicking a much more powerful sith. Not that hes not powerful, his ability to force freeze stuff is pretty damn cool. He's emotionally unstable, and gioes running off to his master several times for guidance.

I thought it was pretty interesting...

Ren wants to go to the dark side, he wants people to see he is bad. he destroys and gets tantrums when things dont go his way. yet he is tempted to the light, even as he attempts to kill his father who he thinks is the path to removing the light there is still his mother...

Rey wants to be good and tries to help people but constantly has scenes where she gets angry like going after Finn with the staff, going after stormtroopers at the jungle outpost. nearly trying to kill Rey in the battle with anger. Showing overt emotions at the death of Han and the injury of Finn.

I wonder if they'll edit the film for the Blu-ray release. I've love for them to rework that stupid helicopter shot from the end. Have the final shot being Luke's face.

In the official poster if you look quickly it's like rey is holding a double blade lightsaber. I think that's a foreshadowing.

I think the only foreshadowing to this is the type of weapon she'll eventually have.

Like, I don't think she'll use a traditional sword style light saber. I expect her to have something like a spear with a light saber on the end of it. Maybe even a shortened one like Yoda's.

Kind of like this for a fighting style: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y6OIzsoxtes

Notice how much of a "stabbing" motion she used against Kylo at the end.

the helicopter shot was WTF. I didn't hate it but it doesn't belong.

should have ended with Lukes face. I also wish he has a line.

I have much to tell you, or much to teach you..

something.

I only recall Obi-wan calling him that 'only a master of evil Darth'. I think that's because Darth was actually his first name, and not a sith title, until the OT sequels fleshed out the story?

That line can be rationalized as Obi-wan mocking Vader. Guiness' line readings were so good that you can read a lot into them when new history kept being revealed.

More like

"Oh no my plan failed.... the monster is on my doorstep"

Ok im done for real this time

What bothers me the most about this is that whatever he reaction was, we'll never know. VIII is going to start some time later, not pick up instantly where VII left off.

Yep, though I don't know if he made it clear if all the Knights of Ren get that title. It could be only the Master of the Knights of Ren inherits the title. That being said, people occasionally called Vader Darth, so who knows.

Stormtroopers and Domnhall Gleeson in the movie referred to him as Ren, not Kylo.

Poe was originally going to die in the opening

JJ surprised him by reworking the script so he lives

Good. I didn't want BB8 to have that on his little robo-conscience.

man.. everytime JJ opens his mouth about how things were supposed to go I cringe.

I really love this film but the outline for the original film is eh....

just shut your mouth, let us speculate. thats part of the fun. don't tell us exactly why r2 boots up because it won't be as cool as we hope.

Agreed. She can never come back and I think I'll be fine.

Yes, I found her performance really odd for some reason. Beyond the nostalgia tickling, the movie would have been perfectly fine without her. But being Kylo's mother, the plot calls for her involvement on some level, especially in light of Han's death.

If Obi-Wan can call Vader "Darth", anyone can call Kylo "Ren".

Characters in the movie referred to him as Ren more than once as well. There shouldn't be any confusion regarding what to call him. Call him Kylo Ren, call him Ren, or call him Ben. Just don't call him Shirley.

lmfao they better not

that shot personified the power of the force to me. the entire movie is getting these two characs in the same place, that shot shows the context and the vastness of the world and the force around them.

This doesn't surprise me.

I liked Poe, but part of the reason I like him is that he is secondary. I feel like having yet another amazing pilot be the focus wasn't needed this time around. He was amazing at his job, and I loved watching him in the background taking out those 7 or 8 TIE fighters, but I really don't want him at the center stage.

At most, he can have Lando status.

When an actor speaks on set, microphones pick up "room noise". The reverberation of their speech on walls, floors, objects, etc. It gives placement to the actor on scene.

When you record dialogue into a mic, there is none of that. No placement due to no noise floor.

The eyes need to work with the ears. In this case the audio we hear from the mask doesn't match with other actors in-scene. Our brain notices this and we think something is "off". We know its "off" because most of us talk every day. Our brains know what it sounds like even if we don't know what we are hearing.

The audio serves to make what you are seeing believable. When Kylo speaks from the mask, there is no audio queues that let us know he is in the room. They aren't obvious. But your brain notices because you are seeing him in a room. Close your eyes and you will get a whole different picture. Both need to work hand in hand to make something come to life.

I suppose it could be rationalized in the story, I'm just saying in reality I recall reading that Darth was originally his first name. Concepts like 'Sith' and all that stuff took shape after ANH was a success and the storyline was continued, just as with the family lineage angle.

So now that Kylo lost his mask when Starkiller Base was destroyed, think he'll fix up the Vader mask and wear that instead?

Guys.. Stahp saying Rey will turn bad pls. I like her too much already, i wouldn't be able to handle it.

Maybe thats the point? ( ._.)

What bothers me the most about this is that whatever he reaction was, we'll never know. VIII is going to start some time later, not pick up instantly where VII left off.

It certainly avoids some awkward dialogue. You really can't have him speak and then cue the music, the music must drown out all dialogue at that point. It is the dramatic rise to the end. The helicoptering I think was to trick people who were not spoiled, not aware of the time, and make them think something else might happen, then cut to credits. But most who are more familar with Star Wars know the cues and knew what to expect witch works as well. Worked for me personally.

Sounds like an excuse, how on earth can he command an army with such poor leadership skills

He obviously has excellent - if near-fascist - leadership skills. He commands a whole platoon even when we first see him on Jakku.

He just looks like a petulant child, and behaves like one when he loses control.

Which is perfect.

So now that Kylo lost his mask when Starkiller Base was destroyed, think he'll fix up the Vader mask and wear that instead?

I think he'll get an upgraded mask.

I predict that in the climax of the trilogy, Kylo's final battle, he'll go completely crazy and put Vader's melted mask on as he fights Rey.
