Well I'm glad the person that layed out the intro didn't have too much issues with rivers.

You knew something was seriously wrong as early as that first paragraph showed. Taxation of trade routes is in dispute.... STAR WARS!

Yeah, I think it was because, y'know, the dark side feeds on pain and anger, so he was ramping that up to keep his dark force flowing. Really, really great touch.

It performed a dual role of showing that he is, in fact, physically and mentally strong enough to handle pain that might drop lots of people, as well as communicating, yet again, that he wants it. He's trying to use anger to connect with the Force.

Just watched the movie.

So... is Kylo Ren dead? Movie didn't leave much time between him losing the battle and the planet blowing up.

He was a great villain... but getting Darth Mauled is just lame.

Also... pretty cool movie... but damn if they didn't stick to by the numbers Star Wars.

A lot of deja vu between A New Hope/Return of the Jedi and this one.

I hope the next 2 movies get away from death stars, star killers and other such shenanigans. We can only watch big planet weapons go around destroying and getting destroyed so many times in one series.

I guess they erred on the side of caution - people want Star Wars... and that kinda includes the same story beats in many instances.

They probably could've done a better job on the plot direction... but they also could've done a lot worse.

Still fun enough to make me invest in the characters and definetly want to see where it's going next.

There's no way we get little girl Rey killing another host of kids.
It... isn't happening.

No. Adam Driver has been signed for all 3 films. You see Snoke telling Hux to get Kylo and gtfo, and we're meant to believe he succeeded there.

Woke up feeling better about the movie than I did yesterday. Not that I hated it or anything, but the good stuff has bubbled to the surface more than the bad. I still can't get over how much I enjoyed Finn and his interactions with the rest of the cast. Even Ford exceeded my expectations.

I have good feelings about where they can go with Rey from here. Now that the series has dumped some necessary baggage from the original trilogy, I really hope they can pull out some knock-out stuff in the sequels. I'm also excited to see what Rian Johnson brings to the table.

Luke left him so that when Rey showed up of her own volition R2 could show her the way to Luke. R2 went with Rey to be reunited with Luke.

That was pretty obvious to me (though I am not sure how low powered R2 could sense Rey.)
If she is Luke's daughter then I'd be fine with it. But if R2 is gonna leave the family he's stuck with for so long because she's his new padawan then I'll be sad because they could get her a different sassy Droid.

I was just thinking. How the hell does someone named Ben Solo/Skywalker end up the bad guy? Thats some bad luck right there.

Luke done fucked it all up.

Kylo Ren didnt fall. It is clearly implied he leaves the planet with the ship's commander to get the final training by Snoke

Why is R2s reys companion? He was so sad that Luke left he went on low energy mode to search for him.

Kind of defeats the purpose of missing his master if he now leaves with the first girl he meets. Unless she is a Skywalker and he wants to continue with them seeing how he went from anakin to Luke.

All I saw in the ending is that he came with Chewie and her as the search party to find Luke

What are you talking about?

He went with Rey because she was going straight to Luke!
His master.

He would have gone with her, but he couldn't climb the steps. You could see how anxious he was to be reunited with Luke again when she looked back at the Millennium Falcon.

Episode 8 Wishlist:

- Snoke is pissed at the failure of the starkiller base. General Hux is replaced by not Thrawn aka Benecio Del Toro
- Simultaneous training sequences of Snoke with Kylo Ren and Luke with Rey.
- Kylo Ren learns force lightning
- Rey creates a sick light saber staff
- After training, Kylo Ren doubles his confidence and is obsessed with tracking and killing Rey and Luke
- Find out more stuff about the Jedi temple and that artifact Luke was looking for
- Find out who Rey's parents are
- Poe takes on Finn as an apprentice and Finn becomes more proficient as a pilot and has an epic dogfight with Captain Phasma
- Leia and Chewbacca are still coping with the loss of Han and are determined to deliver a final crippling blow to the First Order

Yup, I'm really hoping she wields a saberstaff (it's almost obvious, but you never know)

+1

Great character imo, despite minor reservations.

Thats what bugs me most. We need a legitimate path from one end of the spectrum to he other but they seem to be keeping it simple

Daddy issues to grandfather obsession and power hungry desires

I personally find it lame but its fine for this medium and story

When an actor speaks on set, microphones pick up "room noise". The reverberation of their speech on walls, floors, objects, etc. It gives placement to the actor on scene.

When you record dialogue into a mic, there is none of that. No placement due to no noise floor.

The eyes need to work with the ears. In this case the audio we hear from the mask doesn't match with other actors in-scene. Our brain notices this and we think something is "off". We know its "off" because most of us talk every day. Our brains know what it sounds like even if we don't know what we are hearing.

The audio serves to make what you are seeing believable. When Kylo speaks from the mask, there is no audio queues that let us know he is in the room. They aren't obvious. But your brain notices because you are seeing him in a room. Close your eyes and you will get a whole different picture. Both need to work hand in hand to make something come to life.

That's pretty insightful... but a lot of dialogue is re-recorded in post due to volume and noise issues with the original filming in pretty much all movies.

What you'd want to do is find work as a sound engineer and find a way to add the acoustic qualities of the scene into the sound mix of post recorded dialogue. Probably some sort of physics based sound modelling in a materially modelled virtual set of the scene.

Everyone is complaining that Rey is some sort of Marty McFly or something and all I can think about after watching the movie some nights ago is that Rey's past is going to clear up all these questions. I'm certain she was previously trained but it was locked away from her after being dumped on Jakku. That's why I'm not trying to speculate too much and am excited for the next two movies.

No, Snooke mentions in the end about completing Kylo's training. It's fair to say he'll come back in VIII full trained and more bad-ass. I guess the way it will work, his training will coincide with Ren being trained by Luke, for an epic confrontation in IX, the training will allow glimpses into each character the way Luke's training on Dagobah did.

I don't understand your problem. Luke is R2s family. Rey left to go to Luke. R2 knew they were going to Luke, ergo R2 left to be reunited with Luke.

Rey was just R2D2's ride to Luke.

I was just thinking. How the hell does someone named Ben Solo/Skywalker end up the bad guy? Thats some bad luck right there.

Luke done fucked it all up.

I think the real fuckup is giving a character an alias with "Ren" in it and giving him the true-name "Ben".

Not to mention having a third, opposite-faction character called "Rey".

That is just all kinds of confusing shit. This thread has left me spinning a couple of times. In confusion.

1. Rey and Kylo Ren are brother and sister (Rey is Leia's daughter). Borrowed from Jacen and Jaina in the EU. Jacen turns sith and Jaina has to take him out.
2. Rey is Luke's daughter hidden from birth on a desert planet again as a kind of last resort since Luke rolled out Yoda style.
3. The Force just "Awakened" in her as the new Chosen One to maintain the balance.

At the moment I'm leaning towards #1 just because of my EU fandom and Star Wars loves to create family drama which now shifts to the Solo family since Han is dead.

You act like thats a big stretch. The planet blew up seconds after Chewie picked up Rey and Finn. We never see Kylo getting picked up. Makes it even more ridiculous if Phasma survives.

You missed the conversation Snoke had with the commander to bring Ren to him to complete his training?

His master.
A guy in the last page said that he's reys new companion.

You know for the sake of the new characters please keep the old cast as minimal as necessary. Keep Chewie around as her permanent companion and like that defeats the purpose of her meeting up with Finn or having a proper chat with Poe.

I want VIII to start with Han's funeral and Leia sending Finn and Poe off on the next mission. BB-8 will accompany them. So the film follows two teams:

Finn, Poe and BB-8
Rey, Chewie, and R2

and then Leia and C3PO pulling the strings.

I'm sure they will elaborate on his fall. We have 30 years of history untapped into and we have two movies to go in this trilogy.

No, I didn't miss it. But that doesn't change the fact its completely impossible he survived based on the sequence of events if we are trying to apply any sort of logic here.

I really hope Finn ends up being force sensitive. I think he will end up being so in the end. If he isn't I wonder why Maz showed such interest in him and gave him the light saber to fight with? She lives in a pirate castle! I am sure she would have had a more appropriate weapon for an ex storm trooper. Also the movie contradicts the books a little bit. Wasn't Finn the top of his class in the First Order? How the hel did he end up in sanitation?

hell, Vader was completely one dimensional in 'A New Hope' it's only in Empires that he is more then just the big baddie and his relationships with the emperor and Luke are fleshed out.

Has it been brought up that Maybe it was Kylo that kidnapped young Rey from Luke (she being his daughter), made Luke think he killed her, but in fact Kylo dropped he off on Jakku or with some family that eventually dropped her off on Jakku? We know Kylo struggles with conflict in this film, it might have been even stronger of a pull when he messed up Luke's Academy. He couldn't go through with killing his little cousin. Or maybe he thought he killed her but she managed to survive, and that's why she has amnesia.

That could be interesting, possibly removing her so he could try and make her his apprentice later.

Luke thinks she is dead.

Top of his poop scooping class. As to the lightsaber she gave it to him so he'd bring it to Rey and it happens to be a weapon too

What are you talking about.

Phasma didn't just sit on her ass when Fin, Rey, Chewie and Han traveled from the main base to the reactor/planet weak spot. So much time passed since they dropped her in the garbage. They had to run, plant the bombs throughout the whole area, talk to Ben Solo, Fight Ben Solo, wait for Poe to do his pilot thing, while Chewie picks up Rey and Fin.

And Rey had to run back to Fin after the ground split open. When she ran off, I doubt Ben sat on the ground making snow angels.

There's actually an argument for another as well.

3. Rey is a Kenobi.

I think the biggest "huh" is that all through development of the movie, there were rumors that a character was a Kenobi descendant.

Is Lor San Tekka a person with the Force? Maybe he took Ren (same planet) and protected her ? Is he allied with Skywalker? I remember Kylo Ren meeting him and saying he had become old since the last time they met. Could he have trained been supporting Rey through skywalker? He could be literally like Ben Kenobi like hermit from the new hope
