When an actor speaks on set, microphones pick up "room noise". The reverberation of their speech on walls, floors, objects, etc. It gives placement to the actor on scene.
When you record dialogue into a mic, there is none of that. No placement due to no noise floor.
The eyes need to work with the ears. In this case the audio we hear from the mask doesn't match with other actors in-scene. Our brain notices this and we think something is "off". We know its "off" because most of us talk every day. Our brains know what it sounds like even if we don't know what we are hearing.
The audio serves to make what you are seeing believable. When Kylo speaks from the mask, there is no audio queues that let us know he is in the room. They aren't obvious. But your brain notices because you are seeing him in a room. Close your eyes and you will get a whole different picture. Both need to work hand in hand to make something come to life.

I'm glad the lightsaber duel wasn't a technical wankfest.
The simpsons predicted this back in 09.
You know what I was thinking? JJ's movie seems to have a strict "no prequel anything" rule to it, which is probably a good thing as a pallet cleanser. But if future movies aren't as strict about that, I'd love to see...
Coruscant. Somebody has to go back there for something, and it's now all grown over with flora and fauna. The senate room, the Jedi council room, Palpatine's office. They all have roofs missing and vines growing everywhere. The old senate room is part caved in with the sun pouring in and all the old seats have animal nests in them.
I know that's kind of an old trope, but it would be a cool scene to see the iconic "all city" planet so subverted that way.
I like the idea of her being a Kenobi
Then we could get a battle between the grandson of Vader and granddaughter of Kenobi. Full circle.
I know. But all you've said can be fixed in post. It should be fixed in post. And considering no one else seems to have noticed/been bothered by it, I assumed my theater had faulty sound mixing, or speakers.
The whole reason I brought it up was to see if anyone else noticed. Vaders dialog had ambience, if we take a more recent release, Iron Man's voice has ambience when he's in the suit, both probably reworked in post.
Kylo Ren just sounded off (to me) with the mask. So again, either they missed something in post, or my theater had messed up, or I'm just weird in thinking it sounded wrong.
That's the actors age right? I thought Kylo was supposed to be in his early 20's.

They already had the voice of Ewan McGregor there, so there's no such policy.
Prequel haters masturbate furiously to that idea, but it's not true.
On the subject of the map:
Was anyone else really...disappointed by that whole plotline, once the map was finally shown? Are we supposed to think that there's a chunk of the known universe for which all charts just vanished and this happens to be the only one? How was it that the Resistance wasn't able to place BB-8's piece of the map in known space? Is the complete map supposed to be the whole galaxy, or just a specific cluster of systems that aren't charted? (The map itself looks like a galaxy map, and the chunk that's missing is conspicuously large.)
indeed! one of my enduring salty memories of the prequels is how ridiculous and CG the light saber duels are. Cheezy and lazy. They stood in stark contrast to the OT saber duels, which were largely underwhelming but did not require the suspension of disbelief in order to accept. The OT duels will largely be remembered as acceptable and will wear decently over time. The Prequel duels will wear more and more poorly as they age. A real shame, but par for the course for those awful films.
The saber duels in TFA stand head and shoulders over all duels that have come before in choreography, visual FX and approach. They felt like real fights. They looked amazing (smoke coming from burn holes in chests, snow steaming from sabers pushed into the snow). It took 7 movies, but they finally got saber duels perfect.

The actual reason why R2 booting up was explained by JJ and its not great. BB8 apparently walked up and decided to Ask R2 if he had any maps and surprise in the death star all those years ago he downloaded the map that he needed.
time to boot up.
not joking
Yeah, it was odd.
This is the official star wars map
Theres no way they wouldn't be able to tell with the missing chunk being as big as it was
Star Wars is set in one galaxy, not the whole universe.
A galaxy has billions of stars.
They had NO map at all to tell them where Luke was until BB8 showed up. Turned out it was incomplete, not enough info to know where it was. R2 had a bigger one with that chunk missing.
This is perfect lol.The simpsons predicted this back in 09.
Sounds like a stretch to me. This takes place 30 years after ROJ. Did Leia immediately get knocked up after that film? Seems like she'd be really occupied with taking down imperial remnants and building the new republic.
I really hope this happens. While I'm quite confident that Rey is Luke's daughter, I think given that Luke's dilemma in the original trilogy revolves around him being tempted by the dark side and ultimately accepting the light side (but also accepting his emotional state), and Rey has drawn upon power from the dark side in The Force Awakens while Ren also wishes to shun the light, the idea of balancing the force, and the interest in the first Jedi Temple (which should, one would think, also bring us some knowledge or exploration of the Ancient Sith), it doesn't seem out of the question that there will be possibility of accepting both sides, and drawing from both aspects of the force to become a balanced individual will come into play. As a previous poster mentioned, it does muddle the simple tale of 'dark side is bad, light side is good' that the cinematic universe has going for it (but again, almost anything else is somewhat more complicated than 'blue is good, red is bad; the end'), but it would be an interesting place to take the new trilogy and be a breath of fresh air in the cinematic universe.fantasy talk but id love it if some of kotor 2's ideas about the force somehow made it into episode viii
The android port is also really good...kotor2 was actually updated on steam recently with support for wide-screen and missing questsI've been playing KOTOR1 on my phone, the iOS version is really great.
Actuality 4 if one counts Phantom Menace. George has said it was a Death Star type, plot device.
Every movie has starred a Skywalker with others on the side. Changing that would be quite the deviation. Can Rey just be a random force sensitive person? Like Anakin?
I guess the Chekhov's Gun of her being abandoned won't let that happen, but eh. I don't think everyone needs to be related lol. We already got the grandson of Vader in here.

Well, I kind of love/hate the prequels, but the fact is, there's VERY little presence of anything prequel related in there. I mean, there weren't even alien species that were introduced in the prequels. I don't get what having a Dug or something in Maz's place would have hurt. Or a rustly old battle droid somewhere or something.
But anyway, that's all beside the point. I'd love to see some of the more iconic imagery from the PT and how it lands in the Sequel Trilogy era. There was that joke about JJ working in Jar Jar's skull, but actually, it's kind of what I'd like to see a bit of on a grander scale. The "skull" of the Senate House or a look at Naboo or something, and have the results be surprising.
I don't understand the problem people have with the PT lightsabre fights ? It's like Wushu with lightsabres.

This was how I knew he wasn't going to survive the movie.
He was so damned overjoyed to do the press junkets and appearances, because he knew he was going to be freaking done with the franchise lol.
Always two, there are.I'm just hoping were done with Deathstars. We've had three of them and frankly it was fucking lazy the second time around.
Over choreographed to the point where people are doing flips/twirls/unnecessary movement that would get them killed by any opponent that had a fragment of common sense.

IMBD is wrong. We have official word from Lucasfilm Kylo Ren is 29-30. And Rey is about 20-22.
Ya me too. They wanna pass the torch onto the new gen, and Harrison Ford just couldnt wait to get killed off it seems. Fucking sucks that hes so indifferent to SW. It seems like a hassle every time they ask him a question about it.
I don't understand the problem people have with the PT lightsabre fights ? It's like Wushu with lightsabres.
Didn't they mention the clone army in a new hope?Pod racing engines in the background on jakku, "sith", mention of clone army, ewan mcgregor's voice. There was a lot of prequel stuff. People like to pretend there wasn't though and I guess that's fine too.
Yeah I don't buy into this. R2 had the map yeah but he also had the convenient dotted yellow line showing Luke's route and location (with the middle missing). So how did he get the map with yellow line on it if he downloaded it from the Death Star?

But it looks good![]()
I'm hoping Finn learns how to use a freaking lightsaber, he got bodied by Kylo. I'd like to also see Kylo turn into a Sith by the next movie.Episode 8 Wishlist:
- Snoke is pissed at the failure of the starkiller base. General Hux is replaced by not Thrawn aka Benecio Del Toro
- Simultaneous training sequences of Snoke with Kylo Ren and Luke with Rey.
- Kylo Ren learns force lightning
- Rey creates a sick light saber staff
- After training, Kylo Ren doubles his confidence and is obsessed with tracking and killing Rey and Luke
- Find out more stuff about the Jedi temple and that artifact Luke was looking for
- Find out who Rey's parents are
- Poe takes on Finn as an apprentice and Finn becomes more proficient as a pilot and has an epic dogfight with Captain Phasma
- Leia and Chewbacca are still coping with the loss of Han and are determined to deliver a final crippling blow to the First Order
Didn't they mention the clone army in a new hope?![]()
For me, it was that they focused more on the choreography of things than furthering character development. Episode I's duel did this with Qui-Gon's death and Obi-Wan's reaction, but the rest spent way to much with twirls and flips and not enough focusing on the characters.I don't understand the problem people have with the PT lightsabre fights ? It's like Wushu with lightsabres.
The obi Wan theory is really stretching it. Like at that point why not make it "Rey is actually the love child of the king of space and a sand worm from dune"
