Kind of. Lazy writing just to establish a 'legacy' connection if there isn't a good reason that makes sense for the saber to be recovered.

I don't get why plot holes are dismissed as "not a big deal". It was a really good movie, but it had quite a few plot contrivances that are worthy of pointing out.

It's not a plot hole.

I mean would it make you feel better if they spent precious time in the movie saying like "oh this ended up on a space garbage truck that my band of pirates hijacked and we were going through the junk to see if there was anything valuable and we found this"

How Anakin/Luke's lightsaber was found isn't really a plot hole though, it's just unexplained information. What we do know is that it was found and given to Maz at some point. That isn't a hole.

So since that was Anakin's/Luke's old Light Saber.

Did anyone notice that in the previews when Finn was holding it? Or were all the trailers shot in a way that you couldn't see the hilt each time?

I ask because I know the shape of the hilts are very specific/iconic to the die hards. I have a cousin that has a few hilts mounted on his wall.

We knew it was Luke's for a long time. They even confirmed it was his a long time before the film came out.

I can't decide if I want Rey to have a saber staff or not.

It would make total sense, but it just feels so... prequels.

If they can make it work with the intense saber fights like this one had, I'm all for it. But I don't want her to devolve into flashy dance-fighting like the prequels.

Well, we never actually see the surface of Bespin. There could be some dude who just hangs out underneath the cloud city and scavenges everything that falls out that hole in the middle. I'm sure there's lots of stuff falling out there all the time.

It was a gas giant, there was no surface to the planet.

So is the only action figure of Rey with a lightsaber that really shitty Hasbro one? Was hoping for one that looked like her to have a setup with Rey, Finn, and Kylo in the snow battle.

I have to imagine more figures will start to come out now that the film is out and they don't have to worry about revealing stuff early.

This movie was so fuckin gorgeous to look at

That was an amazing picture.

For those of you that watch Doctor Who, I've been thinking that maybe Rey opening herself to the Force, could be seen like Rose when she had the Time Vortex in her head.

The Black Series one's decent. Comes with BB-8 too. Obviously it's not as good as the Hot Toys one, but I'd never pay that much for a figure.

Maz states "that's a good question for another day" So we'll probably never get the true answer.

But I did read someone that it landed somewhere on the industrial surface of Bespin. So you can assume someone found it and it had just swapped hands.

Bespin, the planet, is a gas giant. Most likely it was found on Cloud City, and it makes sense.

I had always thought the saber fell into the planet, but that was wrong.

For sure there will be answers in the next movie.

What like for a moment she was completely subsumed by the will of the force and essentially, the force itself won the fight with Kylo?

I mean, maybe? But I kind of hope not.

Sort of. Would be better than just hand waiving it like they did. It's not a big deal really, but I'm not sure why they needed that saber anyways other than to push the plot of lineage. Just having any would've been fine, Rey having the Force awaken within her didn't need to be tied to a lightsaber at all anyways though.

Fair enough, I'm not losing sleep over it, but again, I found it contrived.

Much like the Falcon introduction- "oh it was stolen from me years ago and we never searched that star system". What. What are the odds that Rey and Finn would take it and be found by Han and Chewie who were apparently searching for it for awhile not even hours later? Why did Han and Chewie need to lose the Falcon at all?

Film was a lot stronger when it was confidently resting on the new leads, it didn't need a bunch of fanservicey and contrived things like that to push the plot forward; it just felt very "safe" and designed for maximum audience pleasing when it did.

loved it, even if its a retread of new hope. Finn and Rey were much better than I imagined, so much in fact that I felt I didnt need any of the nostalgia characters, I just wanted more finn and rey. Also it makes me super excited for the sequel

also thank god they didnt kill the villain in the first movie again. Some nitpicks like why is Finn holding his own against a actual Sith (or whatever Kylo is) and why can Rey even win against him (I mean, the force doesnt teach you to use a light saber, you need training for that) but whatever, super fun

Because plot is the means to an end. There will always be plot holes; they usually don't matter to the overall story.

Because every detail not being explicitly explained to you in a movie is not necessarily a plot hole.

The best part of that scene was Luke taking off his hood all fabulous-like. Like he was in an herbal essences commercial

Hey, he's the most legendary person in the whole galaxy. A little showmanship is expected of such a prestigious position. ;-)
