Disney obviously keeps these guys on a very tight leash, why else do you think Whitta went back and deleted all of the negative comments he made about the PT?

Yep, it's not like anyone involved with making the new movies could badmouth the PT. Which is precisely why the prequels turned out the way they did: at the time of their making, Lucas was surrounded by yes-men. I don't see how any proficient film maker could ever consider these atrocities good movies.

I'd imagine Kylo has always been a dark child. Han and Leia saw this, and thought Uncle Luke could guide him, to control his emotions and his ability.

I can easily see that Kylo was in class, envious of the attention his fellow pupils received, particularly a certain girl who was exceptionally gifted.

The voices in his head got worse, and along came Step-Dad Snoke. Kylo abandoned his uncle and ran off to the Knights of Ren. Brainwashed with the dark side, and his grandfather's legacy, he returned to the Jedi academy and slaughtered all who were there. Luke was off world at the time, making sure his daughter was safe...

Snape from Harry Potter?

Holy shit, just got back from having lunch with my folks and of all people, it was they who started talking SW shipping.

Did you happen to notice how strong the wookies gun is when Han is using it? Anyone who gets shot is going to struggle i dont care who he is, let alone from that type of gun.
Also, Kylo aint no Vader yet. He will get there though. This isnt ANH Luke besting Vader here. Its like ESB Luke besting an injured Anakin in AOTC.

Not to me.

And you?
I question your judgement. They're pretty fucking bad movies.

Especially with scenes like...
"You are... so beautiful."
"Only because I'm so in love."
"It's I who is so in love with you!"
"So love has blinded you?"
"Well, that isn't exactly what I meant..."

You know... ROMANCE!

So the PT aren't bad movies with convoluted plots, bad acting, bad writing, unrelatable characters and bad cg?

I'm no big fan of the PT, but it's funny how we can give the OT a pass for anytime the visuals sucked ass and just claim "it was a restriction of the time."

But the same excuse can't be used for the PT.

Edit: Regarding the bad CG anyway.

Man the Ep. VIII writers and director are probably scouring GAF and Reddit right now to come up with the plot.

If that's the case then we'll see written description for every visual or between-the-lines cue in the episode VIII.

Kylo is strong in the force, but he clearly has not been properly trained in the Sith religion. He has had some level of Jedi training obviously, but I don't see he got very far considering how unstable his lightsaber is.

If you don't considering the acting in the PT bad, I shudder to think what you consider good.

I think it's bad, but I think some of it is good. It doesn't generally ruin my enjoyment as I like Star Wars for many many reasons. Natalie was the worst one IMO. I thought Hayden was mostly fine when paired up with Ewan and Ian.

Just got back from the movie. Watching the movie was fun. After I started processing it though it fell apart in my mind. Biggest disappointment is that Kylo Ren makes me feel sorry for the Sith. Vader lost because he was holding back and wanted to lose. Kylo Ren first gets shot by a wookie, can barely defeat a non-force user and then gets handled by a n00b.

Why does Kylo Ren have to be just as "badass" as Vader?

No way.

One of the things I think TFA does better than any previous movie in the series hands-down is it's cinematography. This is easily the best shot film in the series.

I meant in regards to the final helicopter shot people took issue with. Also TFA does have small issues with editing.

Overall though, there's no question TFA was better at doing what it needed to do than TPM. That is just a fact.

Anyway, got my Dad's review of the movie. Pretty awesome: "...Han Solo has a son. Don't remember that - must have missed an episode - but he's in the force and is a real piece of work. And there's a girl, don't know who she belongs to, but she's in the force, too. The new seats are nice but the heat was blowing right down on me. It was alright."

And we can close down the thread...Honestly, this is really all ya need so you can enjoy the movie, go along for the ride...and not "nerd" it to pieces.

But we dont know what planets for sure...do we?

Well they said they were targeting the goverment's seat of power and they showed a shot of a big high tech city and what looked an awful lot like the senate/capitol building from the prequels.

Seems pretty clear cut to me.

And, you think about it, this makes Lord Hologram easier to be interesting. In the OT Vader was like pure evil and then the Emperor was just eviler-- with lightning! Kylo could have a more dynamic path to being evil and that gives Lord Hologram more room to capitalize on being full evil if that's how they want to play it.

After having just killed is father, a gaping wound on his side and still being in training....

Everyone expects Vader, but I think the character has much more room for development this way than just some kickass dark lord.

My issue with people who bask the PT is they do so with the mindset that EVERYTHING about them were shit. There were some good ideas there it just horribly executed.

Like people bitch about the PT not using practical sets. That still wouldn't have helped the acting, script or plot of the movies.

I think they are bad SW movies the ideas were there just executed in the worst possible way imo.

The difference is a lot of the cgi in the prequels is unnecessary and adds nothing to the film. As people said before a lot of the time it's just garbage and noise overloading your senses.

To me they should focus on what happened between Ren and Luke in EP8. Make it a ton of flashbacks a la godfather2 style. It''l be a darker movie that way and everyone wants to know.

I'm not super down with flashbacks. The brief Force fueled one in this movie was fine as it came from her touching the saber and being flooded with visions and memories through the Force, but when you start going full flashback mode you're not moving forward enough.

I think it should be touched on, but they should be careful as to how its portrayed.

Then you show them the practical sets photos (That they believed were CGI), and they conveniently don't respond/skip the posts entirely.

While the Tatooine robes have become official Jedi uniform, it's interesting to note that the Making of ROTJ book has Mark Hamill state that Luke's black outfit in ROTJ is "the uniform of a Jedi knight". They also considered black outfits for Obi-Wan and Qui-Gon in TPM concept art, but ultimately production went with the Tatooine robes.

Not even close. Empire's cinematography takes a gigantic shit on TFA. A New Hope, even if you don't handicap it for the technology of the time, is a beautifully shot movie, with some seriously inspired and now-legendary shots. Tied for Return of the Jedi, imo, which has some great moments but is pretty sloppy as a whole.

The prequels are also not that poorly shot. The action sequences of the prequels ranged from competently done to impressive at times. Just the shot-reverse-shot of the dialogue (which granted, was a huge failing and a big chunk of the films) was awful.
